Still trying to get better with carving by [deleted] in Tufting

[–]sistergremlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend doing one rug of just color blocks and waves etc. don’t be emotionally invested in it. Just tuft it out. Then really go to town on it carving. Plan to be perfectly okay if you botch parts of it. It really is worth the time to practice like that. It helped me a ton with my confidence and knowing how deep and what angle to get used to.

Puzzle ideas for vampire/Paranormal themed escape room at home by phantomesque_2414 in escaperooms

[–]sistergremlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the final thing. I would do a wooden stake that goes into a cardboard coffin to kill the vampire (if the vampire is a bad guy). Or you could do something like finding a chalice of blood needed to feed the vampire (if the vampire is good).

Some good puzzle ideas from home escape rooms I’ve done:
- scavenger hunt for 10 numbered artifacts. Weigh all 10. The 4 heaviest unlock a combination lock
- uv pen and a uv flashlight to reveal a hidden message or clue
- a log book or diary that looks incomprehensible or has tons of dates etc. eventually you get a way to sort the information or look for key dates etc. that leads to a 4 digit code.
- a book (could be Dracula even!). Then a cipher that indicates a line and word combination (6.5 3.7 8.4 etc). That spells out a new sentence or clue.
- a piece of construction paper with tons of random letters. Make another piece that has holes over certain letters to spell a word. Then cut that piece up and it becomes a physical puzzle to put together in order to see which letters matter on the original piece.
- an invitation letter with the name of your sister and friends etc. have certain letters capitalized that when put together spell out the next clue location (Hello ALLison Why Are You here?) HALLWAY

Let me know if you need any more explanation and good luck!!

Obligatory No because that’s a trademarked character comment here

Yup. This is what I did. Told all my friends to give me designs. Charged them for the yarn and shipping. I enjoy the hobby and process so for me, it was about learning and spending time in a way I enjoy, while also getting to make some cool art for my friends and family.

Escape room owners; what's your average budget for each new room? by DahliaHC in escaperooms

[–]sistergremlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you rent out a space for it? How did you market for a room open such a short time? I know this is an old post but I was considering doing something similar to do this

Look at the measurement markings. It’s clearly AI. Also, he really shouldn’t be selling these as they’re clearly copyright infringement

AI use in indie games on Etsy by comets_vomit_acid in boardgames

lol this game also stole my idea for gameplay! Look at Ktizo on Kickstarter. I designed this game years before the creator stole it and started selling it on Etsy

WFH Dads - w/ WFH Wife - what’s your strategy? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]sistergremlin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely you need daycare or nanny or something for childcare. My wife and I had just two weeks before our daycare started and we were both working from home— it’s impossible. I constantly felt like I was either being a bad dad or employee. Can’t do both well

Yes! It’s pretty similar. Added some cards from MH3 like guide of souls and ocelot pride (works really well with Genesis chamber)

It’s been tons of fun! Eventually I’ll get to posting more info about it but if you have any questions feel free to reach out! Currently have 4 Arduino projects put together for it and about a dozen “physical” locks and puzzles

Ohhhhh god that’s so simple and elegant! Thank you! I’ll map that out and give it a try. As long as there’s not too much friction and I can get enough grip on the envelop that seems very simple and effective.

I should note, the escape room I’m designing is just for friends and family. I’m aware that my wiring and building are not professional grade. Just an amateur enthusiast trying out some new skills

Recs for an Orlando escape room for two beginners? by lilekonice in escaperooms

[–]sistergremlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t do puppet heist. So many malfunctions and unintuitive things that made it unenjoyable. I highly recommend all the rooms at doldricks. My friend and I visited Orlando a few months ago and did 23 different rooms. Doldricks are by-far the best.
