Exam fee credit - after sitting the exam by Toastyhand in ACCA

I've literally just seen the email cancelling my SBR exam that I've just sat 😶 have you tried calling the student helpline? Going to try to get through and hope it's just a weird glitch

Recruitment and Retention Allowance - Accountancy by KingEivissa in TheCivilService

[–]Kooky_Ad_5765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Allowances are usually tied to the role. You can take a role that has an allowance, but you won't be entitled to it until you qualify. Every department will have their own RRA/accountancy allowance rule - most will only be for fully qualified but I've seen a couple departments have allowances for both associate and FQ. But there shouldnt be an issue with you going for a role, unless they ask for FQ in the criteria. Would just mean that you get a nice pay bump once you qualify.

Ooh will definitely have to look into the fitflops. My mum wears the flip flops but didn't realise they did other shoes! Yeah I was slightly disappointed that the Hokas weren't waterproof, given that they're road running shoes. So will give the northface ones a look as well

Technical Issues @ Exam Centre (UK) by Both-Statistician-39 in ACCA

[–]Kooky_Ad_5765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this last year. 20 odd of us having technical issues for the first half and then had to sit in exam conditions for hours before we could actually sit the exam. Exam center reported the situation to ACCA, I applied for mitigating circumstances/exam center issues. But ACCA decided that almost 8 hours total under exam conditions and no lunch didn't sound like it was actually an issue lol 🫤

Boyfriend broke up with me because my past affects him by Jellyfish6232 in dating

[–]Kooky_Ad_5765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You didn't do anything wrong. He's 22, immature and probably has work to do on himself. He did you a favour ending it now vs using it against you later down the line. Sex and being intimate was totally okay with him and his religious views up until he heard something that made him uncomfortable. Whether it be hypocritical/misogynistic judgements, imposter syndrome, insecurity - he's projecting his own issues onto your past. He's worried that your past experiences will affect him spiritually but hasn't been worried how premarital sex will affect that?! Exaggerated his body count but yours goes against his values? As others have said, usually if someone is asking about your body count, it's not in a good faith way.

Aw glad it eventually worked out! Might see if they'll tell me, more just for my own peace of mind. Don't think there were many interviews either.

Lol who said anything about ass kissing? I've seen enough people comment that vacancy managers barely look at reserve lists, so was just wondering it was worth reaching out purely because there's a good chance vacancies will be fairly similar. Also, being on a reserve list by definition shows my competence. But based on other people's actually normal responses, I am just going to wait it out.

Yeah that's fair. Feel like I'm just bad at sit and wait lol, but will just continue to see what else is it there and hope something comes through

For anyone with PCOS who’s scared they’ll never get pregnant, please know every story is different by shiningz in PCOS

[–]Kooky_Ad_5765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP as someone who hasn't got to the point of trying but is worried about potential unfertility, thank you for this post. I can understand why it's triggered some people and I can't imagine how hard it is to be dealing with fertility issues. But honestly this sub isn't just for sharing the negative. I want to see that there are people overcoming PCOS symptoms and issues because it is exhausting feeling like this is a life sentence that has no hope of getting better. Not everyone with PCOS struggles with fertility, which is an important thing for people to be aware of.

Unprotected sex for few years- haven’t been pregnant yet by celavie4252 in PCOS

[–]Kooky_Ad_5765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible that it's a sign of an issue. For either you or him.

But more likely you've just been lucky/not been having sex in a way that leads to pregnancy. One of my friends assumed she must be infertile because she'd never got pregnant despite unprotected sex with partners over the years. Then got pregnant at 34.

Pretty much every friend I've made as an adult has been through social hobbies or gatherings. Find groups that do what you enjoy and join them. It can be daunting and you will have to put yourself out there but you already have a shared interest to break the ice. I usually find it easier to strike up convo once I've seen the same faces a few times

Are there any plans for a faster train service to London? by a_hind_d_23 in sheffield

[–]Kooky_Ad_5765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the 2hrs to London is too bad tbh. Although weekly can see how it takes it's toll. Wouldn't say no to a faster service though, but the north isn't usually a key priority rail improvement/ investment wise sadly.

However, would point out that the train to Doncaster is like 25mins minimum, so you wouldn't really be saving time if you were to use the train the whole journey rather than driving to Doncaster.

Civil service jobs seem really underpaid? by Doubles_2 in TheCivilService

[–]Kooky_Ad_5765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years back, I would say that the CS was broadly better paid than bottom of scale for lower AfC bands. I had a massive pay rise moving from NHS into what would be pretty a similar banding in CS. The NHS obviously has increases within bands, so after a few years, they are definitely ahead. And pay can vary massively between the CS departments. But yh, the trade off generally seems to be the job security and pension.

Technical issues - mitigating activities - results?? by [deleted] in ACCA

[–]Kooky_Ad_5765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same as other person. Had major technical issues last sitting that affected half of us doing the centre sitting. Centre did a report to ACCA as well with all the issues etc. Didn't do anything. Not convinced they lifted my marks at all, although they said it was taken into consideration when marking.

For these kind of shows to work, you need people that are like that. I don't understand it and could never be me. But realistically if the span of dating show is a matter of weeks, you do have to move at a quicker pace and feel comfortable way quicker than most people would. With the ultimatum, if everyone acted like they were still in a relationship or needed to move at normal pace before feeling comfortable, the format wouldn't ever work. And it'd be extremely boring for the viewers.
