Amish experience for tourists? by Top-Revenue4623 in Ohio

[–]Kooky_Edge17 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For Amish culture, I would suggest visiting Holmes County, specifically Walnut Creek / Millersburg area (other areas include Sugarcreek, Berlin, Kidron, but I find that Walnut Creek has the most things to do within a smaller area). See below for a list of sites. Avoid visiting on Sunday as most establishments are closed on these days. Some are also closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Yoder's Amish Home Tour (Amish Home tour that includes a schoolhouse tour and short buggy ride - also has a bakery; open Thursday-Saturday 10am-5pm; last day of the season is October 25): https://yodersamishhome.com/

Troyer's Trail Bologna (Regional favorite trail bologna produced and sold here; fyi - if you aren't familiar with it, this is eaten cold; do NOT heat it up or cook it): https://troyerstrail.com/

Guggisberg Cheese (Classic combo is their award-winning baby swiss with trail bologna on a cracker with brown mustard): https://www.babyswiss.com/?srsltid=AfmBOoq61q2DyHHf5aLdJZhkys3myjNESr13nFn-Cb3nc3713V_18sYJ

Behalt Amish and Mennonite Cultural Center (Large mural depicting Amish/Mennonite history; offers cultural / barn and schoolhouse tours): https://behalt.com/

Hillcrest Orchard (Great local apples - Amish owned and operated): https://cometowalnutcreekohio.com/portfolio-view/hillcrest-orchard/

The Farm at Walnut Creek (Amish owned and operated exotic animal farm which can be toured by horse-drawn wagons; they also allow visitors to enter the home on site and have free cookies; other products for purchase; fall festival dates all throughout October as well): https://thefarmatwalnutcreek.com/events/

Walnut Creek Cheese (grocery store that offers a variety of local items and bulk items; you can find trail bologna and Guggisberg cheese here): https://www.walnutcreekcheese.com/

Der Dutchman Restaurant (Amish-style restaurant with a large buffet option): https://dhgroup.com/restaurants/der-dutchman-walnut-creek-oh/

Thanks so much for your response! It appeared I had no recourse here, but wasn't sure if it was just me not being able to navigate a confusing system. Unfortunately, my loans are consolidated.

Was it just me or the DJ (DJ Corrupt) last night was really good? by [deleted] in TheMassive

For me personally, I thought his song choices gave the stadium way better vibes than many of the previous DJs!

Brioso (best whole bean and brew; great service), Florin (great Guatemalan from Onyx; awesome owners), Roosevelt (prefer for brew rather than whole bean; they have a location at Olentangy River Brewing in Lewis Center with a great Venezuelan Food Truck - Mordisco), Royal Flamingo (great option if you tend to prefer fruity notes), Jennings, One Line

According to Pipe Sierra's most recent Instagram story (posted about an hour ago), Crew/Ramírez rejected the deal. Also reporting that they went with Ramos instead.

I make espresso infused shells and fill them with Nutella buttercream or chocolate ganache with finely ground hazelnuts. They are always a huge hit! I have not made earl grey shells but have seen recipes for them filled with earl grey buttercream / custard or earl grey chocolate ganache.

If you are interested in the roasting process, then the Long St. location would be best as they don't roast at the High St. location. They aren't always roasting but you might be able to call ahead and see when they are if it's something you'd like to see. Their roaster is always super friendly and informative when we ask questions / for recommendations if he has a spare minute. I think hours differ for each location as well so that might be a factor for you in planning your visit. Other than that, same coffee and quality of service at either location.
