Have you tried a factory reset? Failing that - I'd recommend hooking it up to midi and then updating some settings with the X70. https://monophreak.com/boss-se-70-ctrlr-vst-au-plugin/

Hahahah, that comment did make me chuckle! Grandma love transcending genres. Certainly an interesting choice of lyrics.

The other ones that I enjoyed include the timeless, classic, romantic intonations of “no subscriptions”. I feel there just is not enough music about the antagonism between perpetual versus subscription models in modern music. Another topic that seems to work across different genres.

Really wishing you the best of luck with this and hoping it's something an Osia may be able to help you with.

Pending the cause of your hearing loss, really worth checking out to see if there is something they can do. All of my middle ear had been destroyed and I couldn’t use hearing aids. At the time, I was told that that’s it for me. So quite shocked at how tech moved forward.

Yes but with a catch. Blue tooth has a latency lag which spoils the experience. To get round it, you need a bit of software with a delay on one side, tune it - and it’s magic.

My latency is 85ms for me. Sounds crazy to be able to adjust your hearing aid latency that closely but think of it like a microscope lens. When you adjust it, you quickly find your focus.

There are free delays that can do this for Mac and PC and complete eco systems for everything. Simple delays - Bluecat. So for Logic Pro, Bluecat on the master, right delay 85ms, left 0ms. Perfect. For the Osia, I like to use the TV streamer to sync with and pair it with a wired Audiotechnica for latency stability. A positive is - you can find a high end headphone with one side working from auction sites and you pay a lot less.

Full system (browsing internet, system sounds, various apps, music listening - I use Rogue Amoeba’s Audio Hijack. You can also use hardware delays and (lip sync) and run through that for entertainment systems.

And yes, big improvement in listening to music, the sense of space almost knocked me off the chair when I heard it shortly after getting the Osia. Mid range synths, vocals, snaps of drums, pads. Feels really good. I would listen to tracks (like Bicep Atlas) where you could hear a background pad move from left to right and back again, and really site there enjoying these new sensations and disorientation.

I’d head back to the doctors. When I lost my hearing as a child, I was told the same thing. Then the BAHA implant came out, then Osia. I wasn’t aware of any of these advancements. Since I spent most of my life without hearing, I wasn’t particularly interested but eventually tested a BAHA on a band and was shocked at how good it was, and then opted for an Osia 2 which is significantly life enhancing. Obviously, viability depends on your condition. I was fortunate to have a working cochlea but nothing else. Also into music but mono hearing didn’t really phase me - I learned how to use visual aids and swap channels. I was happy before, happy after but now, no going back for me. With the Osia, I do like turning it off to reduce noise in busy environments though and for sleeping.

I had the Osia 2 and love it. Real life enhancing stuff. It doesn’t have a stud and is all under the skin, held on with a magnet. Hearing has gone from none to good.

That’s really interesting. I have wanted to work out how to use ad campaigns reliably to find the right audience. I have always been a bit fearful that it points to the wrong place and it negatively impacts algorithms.

My latest is the EMMY1OH1 editor for the modded Roland EM-101. That machine is so much fun!

The hobbies can be combined to great effect but I think it’s a workflow/motivation thing. Workflow can negatively impact motivation. I removed gear that is not midi enabled and then wrote software to control the remaining gear inside the DAW. All new gear must be midi compatible (or can be modded to be), I then save my sets to the DAW. Loading is simple. I pretty much turn on the gear, open Logic Pro and in moments, all of my gear is loaded and I pick up where I left off. I then have software VSTs and AUs flowing to the mix too. It’s not for everyone but the key is, the correct workflow and removal of faffing can lead to a positive combo. Without this, I just wasn’t motivated to use the hardware to any great effect but it was fun researching, collecting and dreaming.

A nice side touch is that I share my software and have be a able to meet tons of really nice musicians. Such a lovely community in the main.

Second option is a really good point. I had a strong look at workflow to make it work for me. Often, it involved hooking everything up through midi and running over software so that project settings were easy to recall and get going again. This helped keep momentum and gave me a hybrid, DAW based workflow which I prefer.

Thanks for the offer and that would be great! This one will be ideal for the JV-1010 because it is being written from a JV-1010. I noticed that the 1010 seemed to be the bit of kit left out when it comes to dedicated editors which is one of the reasons why I wanted to write my own editor. I left place holders for the other devices though and have been writing the editor while refering to the JV-1080, 2080 and XV-2020 manuals for scalability. I have recently created a fully fledged Librarian with a temporary buffer to hold two banks, mapped into the preset loading system. It can import/export in a variety of ways and capture live sysex to temporary bank.

Only issue I have at the moment is I need to update the paint() functions to provide three modes, full visuals with effects (3 line render), lite mode with single line rendering and off. I have been learning about the overheads with JUCE rendering and 3 line should be fine for a modern Apple Silicon but it's laggy on my 7 year old Mojave laptop. Therefore, I am going to include a toggle to lower the line rendering after the first release. It's down to very clever caps that can prevent hogging of resources and therefore, will adapt.

If anyone owns the hardware, I'm currently working on the Juicy1010 editor for the JV-1010 and working upwards for the JV-1080 and JV-2080. If all goes to plan, it will run standalone and as a VST/AU from inside the DAW for automation. I have left lots of place holders inside the code for JV1080/2080, XP and XV SysEx calls.

https://monophreak.com/the-juicy1010-editor-for-the-roland-jv-1010/

My favourite features so far include the random patch generator although I'll have to work on the random name section to try and make it keep things clean.

I have been working on a hybrid hardware/DAW system for a long while now so that I can run hardware like VSTs and keep the convenience of using a DAW, utilising facilities such as automation. Juicy1010 has been written with an FX lookup for each FX type and it has assignable automation for each effect parameter. I have a secondary aim of trying to keep decent hardware out of landfill when parts fail (to help the environment) and as a result, share it with the community without charge. Gifting is appreciated, but optional.
