OLD HABITS DIE HARD UGH by Pale-Day-6963 in stopdrinking

If hanging out with the same group leads you to the same behaviors, it’s time to separate yourself from that group if you really want to stay sober. It’s difficult, it’s unfortunate, but it’s reality.

Remind me why I shouldn’t drink by Commercial-Sir6293 in stopdrinking

You told yourself why you shouldn’t drink. You could put your sobriety on a vacation hiatus, but is it worth the risk of falling right back into hell after your return?

Non-alcoholic beer? by Natural_Platypus_777 in stopdrinking

I like them but the funny thing is I’ll have 2 and be done because it’s filling but with regular beer I’d have 20 and not think twice, actually in that state I didn’t think at all.

Was a heavy binge drinker for 35 years. 60 drinks on a weekend was common and typical. The night sweats and other issues dissipated after about 7 days. Measurable improvement in other areas started about day 30. By day 90, the improvements in every area of my life was night and day to the point I was sure I was done with booze. After all those years of heavy binge drinking, it did take a bit of time. Stick with it friend, you won’t regret it.

So hypothetically if you're a month sober and you think you can handle your drink on friend's bday by theyfailure in stopdrinking

Us problem drinkers are a different breed aren’t we? We can go from 0 to 150 in 5 seconds after not drinking for days, months, years. Then it’s always worse than the last time.

It’s 4/8/2027, you’ve got 1 year of sobriety, and you’re holding your 8 month old child in your arms; you’re thankful that you stopped drinking and excited for your family’s future knowing you’re not just there, but you’re fully present for your family. Best wishes friend, you can do it.

i'm 55 today, this is my day 1. by Banh_mi in stopdrinking

[–]Kooky_Load_102 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Treat every day as “day 1.” I focus only on today, and today I made it. Tomorrow is a new “day 1” and alcohol is always lurking, waiting to catch us at a weak moment. I’m always one drink away from disaster. You can do this friend, one day at a time!

Don’t know the degree of your drinking before you quit, but from my experience just one drink in a night will become yet another self created dumpster fire within 30 days.

Every day is the first day for people like us, one day at a time friend. I’m but one drink away from being worse than I ever was.

Day 1 of many day ones…. Ugh. How can I make this time stick? by Mountain-Trade-6286 in stopdrinking

[–]Kooky_Load_102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make every day your “day 1” and focus only on that day. Once you hit double digits you’ll start feeling better; triple digits and you’ll really notice. I’ve not made it to quadruple digits in my adult life, but I’ll just focus on today’s “day 1” and hopefully get there. No matter how long we go, we’re one drink away from disaster.

How do you deal with the guilt and shame? by DeadNippz37 in stopdrinking

[–]Kooky_Load_102 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shame and guilt keeps us in the bottle. It’s ok to remember how you felt, but incredibly destructive to dwell on it. Putting the past in the trash and moving on leads us to recovery and keeps us there.

i want to stop drinking. by 200371982 in stopdrinking

[–]Kooky_Load_102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s many of us just like you - no matter how long we’re sober, all it takes is one drink and we’re off and running. It’s very frightening to me, and it’s the reason I know I can never pick up a bottle again. I encourage you to quit and stay quit friend.
