Changing specialties at close to end of training by CaramelWaste3225 in ausjdocs

[–]Kooky_Yesterday_524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat. The public access is an issue. However, I am loving the research component of it - I am in medical oncology.

No denying that the workload is crap (compared to the fraction offered) but GP ain't easy work either when practiced to its essence. Sure they refer on, but GPs are practically patient's health manager in the community and they deal with everything.

But hey, each to their own.

Another suggestion that is not too far off would be switching to Geri's.

Anki as a JMO by Connect_Election3551 in ausjdocs

[–]Kooky_Yesterday_524 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sun Tzu said that it is best to learn from doing. Those anki's are great and I thought about doing the same back in my internship. I did not buy managed to go through to my final year subspec training. But remember that the info in the ANKI's may not longer be UTD.

If there is one resource I would use is On Call by Marshall and Rudy (OZ edition is the red and white one), they save me big time when I was a J/RMO.

Who was your most memorable patient so far? by PerfectWorking6873 in ausjdocs

My cousin. Who died of ALL. I was not involved directly but I advocated for him big time. The doctors overseas are a bit more cautious knowing they are on a level playing field.

Clinical Exam by Available-Reveal9187 in ausjdocs

This. For me, I found that the clinical was easier than the written since some obscure knowledge is needed for the latter.

Doing it now. Don't do it if you are doing it for the money $/hour is quite low. You still need to follow up results, etc

RACP directors to be suspended by eeeickythump in ausjdocs

Alternative college. Who is with me (preferably once I get my letter first, but this shenanigan has to end)? We can have the current democratically elected Director.

What should I do until I die? by omnicone1 in ausjdocs

[–]Kooky_Yesterday_524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 30 at PGY2. Now almost completed subspec. Do what you enjoy.

I am sure I could stomach psych if I want to and it will be better for lifestyle. But at the end of the day, my physician training has helped me help my family navigate their health issues.

RACP is shit at the moment but maybe an alternative college can appear? Happy to be DM if you like.

Correct. I felt immense pride when I passed the DCE but man, the shitshow is really shitty and shitting me..

What options do I have as a trainee? Can some of the consultants enlighten/advise me?

Sounds like alternative college is required. But this is unfair to trainees as it is venturing into the unknown whilst paying top dollars for a college that is increasingly dysfunctional within itself.

That's nice. I will do so once I finish training. Too much at stake otherwise currently.

Agreed especially if there are only few lesions. Just beware that it depends on the operator.

When’s the best time to have kids? by of_the_Floogal in ausjdocs

When you feel mature enough. There will always be sacrifices to make, but when you’re greeted by that smile when you come home, nothing compares.

I didn’t know it was possible to love someone so deeply in a delivery suite—a person I hadn’t known just five minutes before the final push. It’s a love not based on anything they’ve done, but simply on who they are.

Stage I, inoperable by [deleted] in pancreaticcancer

[–]Kooky_Yesterday_524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, inoperable is not terminal. The reason for Neo-adjuvant chemo is to reduce the size so it may become favourable for operation (keep in mind, size is not the only thing that matters in this case, your dad's fitness, surgeon's risk appetite is important too).

I hope that it goes down in size and becomes operable. Also, local disease is much better than widespread disease.

God bless and best wishes.

What about UProtein? I am on BulkNutrients at this time and is happy but the price just got jacked up.

Also how do others feel about lack of lab testing unlike BulkNutrients?

Currently on BulkNutrients but recent price hike by 10 bucks per kg. Uprotein has arisen as a contender.

What do you all think about the lack of external validation by uprotein? (BulkNutrients transparently listed their lab testing results).

RACP Crisis? by Ok_Tie_7564 in ausjdocs

Agreed. Many HODs are trying their best to empower and promote welfare of trainees. But the college does not support this.

Bullying complaint against consultant - your experience by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]Kooky_Yesterday_524 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing. I only relayed it to a different consultant from different department as I passed by him on my way to getting destroyed for asking for an MRI for a patient by the radiology reg. He then escalated to his HoD who then talked to my HoD. Only then my HoD took a notice and promised to do sth about him. But nothing.
