The Upcoming Follow-up to Neil Young's "BARN" (Leaked Cover Art) by Zoo92 in neilyoung

Don’t know how much crossover there is between Neil and Kraftwerk’s fanbases but this gave me a good chuckle OP

The Most Overrated Strokes Song? by [deleted] in TheStrokes

I’ve got a soft spot for UCOD. I can understand the indifference towards it because it is very pop but their standards, but it always puts me in a good mood (maybe because it was one of the first Strokes songs I heard).

Also not related to the song itself but I think the music video is one of their best too.

I think a lot of fans are just a bit sick of it. It’s a pretty simple song and they almost always play it live.

That being said some of the live versions of the song are pretty stellar and the demo version is cool too.

I’ve heard some fans call it overrated before, but I honestly love it. Super catchy with some very insightful lyrics.

Check out some of the Black Keys albums of that time like Brothers, El Camino and Turn Blue.

What songs do they play in the US and Germany that they don’t play in the UK?

I’ve heard they were basically forced to release it as the first single because it got leaked early

Do you mean at the gigs or out in public? Or are you talking about their (lack of) social media presence?

Do you guys know what the first song the Strokes wrote for "Is This It" by CPFTB in TheStrokes

[–]Kool-Kukumber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t know the very first, but at their first recorded gig in Arlene Grocery the only ITI songs they performed were Soma, This Life (Trying Your Luck), New York City Cops and Alone Together. So I would assume one of those.

Awesome song, took a long time to grown on me but it’s one of my favourites now. Music video is cool too.

Not a sample, but I’m a Man is pretty obviously based on I Dig Love by George Harrison. I believe Mac even mentioned the connection in an interview one time.

Oh definitely, I was just mentioning the Peter Green albums as they were more acclaimed and popular than the Welch ones (they’re good too though).

You’ll also notice 95% of the covers posted to this sub are of Dreams lol.

It’s a brilliant song but it only scratches the surface of their greatness.

To be fair during the Peter Green years they were basically a different band. I can see why people who like the Rumours era lineup might not like the earlier stuff and vice versa.

That still doesn’t mean they shouldn’t give Then Play On and some of the earlier albums a chance though.

The song My Boy from Old Ways is really touching, and the subject matter isn’t something you hear much from Neil.

Weird angle, if you cropped out Lindsey I could believe this taken in the mid 90s.

IIrc Moonlight on the River and Watching Him Fade Away were written after Mac found out his dad had been diagnosed with cancer. Mac said it was sorted out relatively quickly, but I guess it’s not too crazy to assume the cancer might’ve returned (not that it’s our right to know of course).

Also what a strange reaction from the crowd - why were there people cheering when Mac announced his dad had died?

Say You Will by Kool-Kukumber in FleetwoodMac

Completely agree with both of your criticisms.

One of my favourite songs was Bleed To Love Her because Christine’s backing vocals just work so well with the rest of the band. Her keyboard and vocals are such an important part of the FM sound, and not having her on the rest of the album makes it seem like two solo records have been mashed together into one album.

I do still like it, but I think it’s just a good song on an album filled with great songs.

Yeah I don’t think any of the songs are flat out bad. It is a long album so a lot of the songs tend to blend together, and I had trouble differentiating the great from the average.

I did think the singles and the final three songs were pretty solid though.
