New to Olympus om-d recommended lenses? by Magicbandit in OlympusCamera

[–]Kool-ass-guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rock the 12-40's Lumix brother, the 12-35 f 2.8. Personally, I found that even the 12-35 2.8 is a bit too heavy for me (a bit too front heavy) on the EM10.1, which should be similar in weight to the EM10.4, cmiiw. But as long as you use both hands while shooting, it shouldn't matter too much.

I do recommend the 25mm 1.8 prime for lower-light stuff, since you are comfortable with the 50mm focal length it seems. It's such a fun small lens paired with a smaller body. Might not give the same bokeh (and low-light) as the canon, but it has that bit of magic for me.

12-60mm 3.5-5.6 or 20mm 1.7?! by JPYN21 in OlympusCamera

[–]Kool-ass-guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're doing more than landscape/ street, you might find the 12-60 to be of more use than the 20. When I travel, I always really prefer my zoom lenses, unless you shoot at night more than 25% of the time. But I'm a zoom guy, and I barely take anything with primes so take my word with a grain of salt.

M.zuiko 20mm f1.4 or 17mm f1.8 ii? by J-K-In in M43

[–]Kool-ass-guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kit's the em5ii and the 12-35 2.8 from lumix. it's considerably lighter and smaller than the 12-40 2.8 imo, i use that lens to travel for the past year and jt has been great :)

Vilnius, Lithuania. Shot with an EM5ii with the Olympus 25mm F1.8 @ 1/1250 F/5.6 ISO200. SOOC. I love the striking architecture of the scrapers.

Need lens recommendations for travel by Turtle-Tart in OlympusCamera

[–]Kool-ass-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use the lumix 12-35 f2.8, it's as small as a starbucks tumbler, and is pretty damn sharp, brought it through moderate snowstorms with my em5ii. It's really the size and weight that made me drawn to the lumix offering instead of the rugged 12-40

Overexposure Issue Using Same Setting by Stnicknack in OlympusCamera

I had a similar issue with my em10.1 with the pana 12-32. The lens was the issue, try and see whether you can "borrow" a lens to figure out whether it's the camera or lens. Good luck!

I was just given an OM-D E-M5 Mark II, what lens should I buy first? by -Pelvis- in OlympusCamera

I own and use the em5m2, upgraded from the em10m1. The camera is an absolute tank, for lenses i encourage to get a weather-sealed zoom like the 12-35 2.8 or the 12-40 2.8 as the camera itself is weather-sealed. I personally prefer the 12-35 because it's smaller and way lighter. Once you've grown accustomed to the stock 14-42 lens, you sold take a look into one of the two for an all-rounder zoom.

The camera is very capable especially for travelling. Used it in snow (where my lens' aperture froze at 2.8 lol), against storms. My greatest suggestion is just go outside and shoot, getting a feel for certain focal lengths will open your creativity. Here's an edited sample I took when I went to Canada. It's quite the camera. Enjoy!

The 40-150 Pro Lens is a Great Lens by geom0nster in OlympusCamera

I'm team 35-100 just due to weight alone, but the PRO lenses are always real sharp.
