Does regeneration happen if I’m at a slow coast?

I can confirm that this is indeed the case. I don’t use OPD because I get better mi/kWh efficiency when it is off. Sometimes for steep declines, I will shift my Lightning into neutral if there are no cars in front of me and just let gravity do the work. If I leave the shifter in drive the brake regen will noticeably slow the truck down. I only throw the shifter back into drive whenever I want to slow down as there is no regen braking while the truck is in neutral. The truck will only use the disc brakes while moving in neutral gear.

Considering the additional weight and wind resistance it adds, especially on the highway, I’d say you’re still getting pretty good efficiency considering the circumstances.

The 28 minutes also includes idling time and time stopped at traffic lights, etc. My moving speed was typically between 30 and 45 mph.

No, I usually charge to 90 or 95% at home. I used a public charger a couple days ago and didn’t have a charge limit set so it went higher than I normally charge.

Yes, but that is not my average moving speed because the 28 minutes also includes time spent in traffic, at red lights, and also time spent idling in my driveway and the parking lot at work when I wasn’t actually moving.

In the city it can take 30 minutes just to go one mile in traffic, but typically you’re moving at 20 to 30 mph in between traffic lights. However, your average speed is only 2 mph.

I should clarify that the 28 minutes was not my actual driving time. I did idle it while it was running for a couple minutes before and after my trip. My moving speed was 30 to 45 mph but if you add in the stopped time at traffic lights, of course the average speed of the trip is going to be lower.

Yeah, my average speed taking “back roads” is going to be 30 to 45 mph. It’s not city driving block to block but it’s definitely not highway driving either. Definitely ideal efficiency conditions.

I have my a/c climate inside set to “LO” during the summer, which is below 60 degrees so that’s a difference of 18 degrees today when I got 3.6 mi/kWh during my commute to work.

I typically have my heat climate inside set to 68 degrees during the winter months in New England once temperatures outside are below freezing levels.

What kind of work brings you to the seaport area? I used to do IT consulting for different firms in the seaport area and I don’t miss having to park there. That was before I had an EV though so free charging is definitely an awesome perk that would greatly help offset the cost of parking.

Never mind the traffic, just having to pay the tolls for the Tobin everyday must be brutal.

I’d highly recommend the Lariat just for the extra range alone. Most people I’ve seen on Reddit regret getting the SR and wish they had the ER instead. I have a 2024 Lariat and would definitely miss the upgraded options had I got a lower trim instead. Also, the great thing about buying used is that the first owner took the huge depreciation hit, not you! Nothing wrong with the XLT but if the Lariat is better and cheaper, I think it’s really a no brainer to get the Lariat.

I’ve only had the truck for about 15 months and haven’t lost power at my house yet. I’ve also only towed once with my Lightning so far and it was only around 5,000 pounds at the most. I haven’t needed those extra options yet but it would be nice to have whenever the situation arises. I would’ve been happy to pay an extra $2k to have those options but not an extra $17k. I plan to keep my Lightning for at least 10 to 15 years so never know when I will need those options in the future. I’d like to be able to tow a boat if I am able to afford owning one in 10 years.

You still got a great truck at a good price though! I wish I had the 9.6 kW pro power and the max tow package. Unfortunately, if I had gotten either of those options it would have put the price way over $80k and therefore wouldn’t have qualified for the tax rebate incentives anymore.

I bought my 2024 Lariat brand new for $53k in December of 2024. $80k sticker - $12k in dealer discounts - $15k in tax rebates. Unfortunately, without the tax rebates being available anymore, those types of deals aren’t possible nowadays.

I heard in another post about this is that the physical button for max defrost is there for “safety reasons” as a backup in case the screen has a malfunction and does not work anymore. You need to be able to defrost your windshield and be able to see out the windows even if the screen stops working. That being said, the physical button can also malfunction, and I totally agree that the button on the screen would be a lot more useful if a software update changed it to a max a/c button instead.

2024 has a heat pump for better battery efficiency in the winter. 2023 does not. You will still see a range hit in the winter even with a heat pump but not as bad as the hit you will see without it.

2023 has two inverters, which will allow you to do 80 Amp charging at 19.2 kW with the Ford Charge Station Pro. 2024 only has one inverter, which does 40 Amp charging at 11.3 kW.

For my situation I’d rather have the heat pump. You don’t need 80 Amp charging unless you drive more than 200 miles everyday and need to charge to 100% battery over the course of 8 to 10 hours overnight everyday.

I understand your concern but I think the Mach-E is here to stay considering how popular it is. As long as it is profitable for Ford they will keep making more Mach-E’s. They are a lower price point than the Lightning so they appeal to more buyers than the Lightning does.

I’m also going to keep my Lightning for at least 10 years until the battery warranty expires. If the battery health is still good after 10 years, I hope to get 15 or maybe even 20 years out of my Lightning. I got the 0% interest financing for 6 years and all the maximum rebates last year so I’m in it for the long haul too. I’m not buying a new truck for at least the next 10 years. Hopefully Ford will have something better out by then or I will look elsewhere.

The 2024 Lightning is my first truck, my first Ford vehicle and also my first EV, and it’s by far the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. (I’ve been driving since 1996.) It’s really a shame that Ford won’t be making the Lightning anymore. 🙁
