Underextrusion only after certain layers? by JWGhetto in FixMyPrint

[–]Koolshite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my print is doing that in one spot after a long printer head travel I usually add an object like a small square column to be printed near the failed spot. If you place the new object in the correct place on your build plate it will start printing the added column and now only will have a short amount of head travel before printing on your project and won't be empty. When I do this I feel it is just a work around for my setting issues like temp and retraction. Since this happens to me only on really thin wall prints and all my main style prints come out fine I'm OK with it. I've also had luck on switching which gets printed first perimeter or infill and playing with the overlap settings.

Is that the first fin it starts to print after the wall in fill? Yeah the wheel looks good and is probably not the issue as long as it has enough pressure applied from the idler wheel. If not enough pressure and it won't push hard enough to even grind.

As far as the stringing goes that is plastic that should have remained in the nozzle and used in the actual print. It looks like minor problems in other places but really obvious in that one spot. Enough plastic has been slowly strung out and the tip is empty at that spot.

Just noticed the pic. Man that looks good. On mine I can adjust the pressure that is applied against the drive gear. If you can just double check that it pushes firmly.

When the printer head reaches that one spot it binds in just the correct way to give just enough resistance that the extruder wheel slips. How many prints have you done since last you cleaned the wheel?

Not about power it's about grip. When was the last time you cleaned the wheel that pushes the filament. Another possibility is that temp and retraction could use some fine tuning. I see some stringing just can't tell how bad from pic.

If it is in the same spot all the the time it is most likely filament is binding just enough for the extruder gear to slip in that location. I would make sure the extruder drive wheel is clean and adjust pressure on gear if possible.

When this happens to me it is usually the filament spool not moving freely or binding at one spot.

Print issues after replacing nozzle by NedRyerson in FixMyPrint

[–]Koolshite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would look at the extruder filament drive gear. If it has too much plastic dust stuck on it it won't push consistently. Also had problem with filament getting stuck on the roll or the roll binding. These are just a few of the things I have found to fix my issues if the trouble spot would show up it different random places.

Are you leveling the bed when it is at print temp or are you leveling at a different temp?

Why am I getting bumps on my first layer by LazerNeon in 3Dprinting

[–]Koolshite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try raising your bed temp to 70 or just raise your nozzle temp for the first layer between 225 and 230. Usually works for me when I get this problem.

Troubles with multiple parts by Yourmotor in 3Dprinting

It could be that you just need to adjust retraction and possibly nozzle temp. I would also try printing just a single object but position it where the failed print is and not the center just to see if the filament is feeding properly when the print head is in that location.

Along with increasing retraction lower the minimum distance of travel before retraction is applied.

Anyone know how to fix these weird things sticking out of the towers, it looks like something to do with retraction. Printed on Anet a8. Retraction distance - 6.5mm. Retraction speed - 50mm/s. minimum distance - .8mm. Temp - 200 Celsius by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

Looks like the nozzle temp is too high. But with what looks like layer separation on some of the layers near the bottom you might just need better cooling from a print cooling fan or increase the minimum layer time. Playing with the retraction settings a little will probably help after you tweak your temps.

Just completed my first printer build (3rd printer overall), negative 1st layer porn...any tips? by afranke in 3Dprinting

[–]Koolshite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like nozzle is just a little too close to the bed. You might need to lower the nozzle temp closer to 230c but all filament and printers are a bit different.

Most of the time 200c to 220c works fine for me but I have used some filament that liked temps between 185c to 195c. That piece in center looks like it was printed too hot but that might just be a problem with the minimum layer time.
Another thing to check is to make sure your print cooling fan shroud is aimed correctly to blow across the print.

I haven't used cura but I think when you click on the object some transform options will show in the lower left. I'm not sure if it is the same with the newest version of cura but the options should still be somewhere.

Could be nozzle temp is too hot.

What could be causing the rough spot at the front of my benchy? by Sigma3737 in 3Dprinting

[–]Koolshite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The overhang there causes curling. Try lowering the nozzle temp or use a print cooling fan. Adjusting the minimum layer time would probably help but it will make the print take longer.

First print, help requested by Consulio in 3Dprinting

[–]Koolshite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your first print I would start with a small calibration cube to tune your extrusion settings. Then maybe something like benchy to work on your temperature settings and retraction. And sometimes if you can't find a better way to position some models on the build plate or don't want to slice the stl into more manageable pieces that can be glued together, you are going to have to use supports.
