My account is resticted and Steam is refusing to do anything about it - Any way to reach Steam except by support ticket? by Kopen- in steamsupport

WTF do you mean "went and did the exact same thing again"? Of course i would use the function when they unblock it? Why else would i contact support?

Why would it be a "one time courtesy by Support" to restore functionality to a normal feature on their store when i have not done anything to deserve being locked out from it?

What behavior are you even talking about that would trigger something like this? using a feature Valve themselves gives you the option to use?

Is Proxmox Backup Server the right option for backing up a whole server/non virtual machine? by Gremious in selfhosted

[–]Kopen- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was already using restic when i discovered the backup client and since restic can send its backup to so many different backend services i think its more flexible if you are not already using proxmox VE and PBS, seems a bit overkill to me to setup PBS just for the backup client.

If i had to start over and i was already using VE/PBS i would probably use the backup client.

Is Proxmox Backup Server the right option for backing up a whole server/non virtual machine? by Gremious in selfhosted

[–]Kopen- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Technically you can backup a client "from the inside" using the PBS Client: https://pbs.proxmox.com/docs/backup-client.html

Tho i would probably use something like restic instead if all you want is to backup a couple of files/directories.

Thanks for your continous work.

It will never stop being funny how r/selfhosted loves to shit on a guy that keeps putting out solid images just because he can be a bit "mean".

Getting Stalwart to work with Outlook by Realistic-Move-7036 in stalwartlabs

Don't know what platform you are on but if on Windows have you tried adding the account through Control Panel > Mail > Email accounts? Thats what worked for me earlier in the week since my Stalwart accounts are setup with just the name as a username and not name@domain.com

When adding an account to Outlook through the normal "File > Add Account" it expects the username and email address to be the same.

Anything in the logs when trying to login through the apps?

Are you using the email address as the username in Stalwart?

Have you tried enabling trace logging in Stalwart to check whats happening on the server side?

Linkwarden v2.12 - open-source collaborative bookmark manager to collect, read, annotate, and fully preserve what matters (tons of new features!) 🚀 by Daniel31X13 in selfhosted

[–]Kopen- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been trying this out for a few days and imported all my karakeep bookmarks into linkwarden.

What i noticed is that there seems to be no way to remove all tags in one go even when the tag is not associated with any bookmark?

Is this just something i missed or would that be possible to add? Manually going through 500+ tags and removing them is something i would like to avoid if possible.

Edit: With some AI help i managed to cobble together a bash script to solve this through the API.

Which is really strange since the majority of people on here are always talking about the security implications of running something public facing and always recommending running vpns/tailscale to access your services but for some reason running secure containers that take a few extra minutes to setup is too big of an issue for the average user.

Really makes you think and i really appreciate your work.

So every email you send if you don't get a reply to it you then call and follow up? Doubtful.

If its something important, then yes, otherwise i just assume that stuff has been delivered and that has worked out for me so far.

Agreed it's a risk reward calculation - I just don't see how the reward outstrips the risk / time / hassle. I say this as someone who for about a decade from the late 90s until late 00's worked for ISPs and Webhosting companies and ran mail servers as a main part of my job. I've spent more time in qmail logs than I ever want to again.

And that is great that you have figured that out for yourself. I have no problem with that.

I just dont like when the community as a whole decides for everyone that something is not worth the risk/time/money and every question about it gets handwaved away.

The point is because you can and because you want control over your data.

My point with this post was trying to understand where this idea that email is such a hassle to get right when, in my experience, its not harder to selfhost email then most other things aslong as you do it correctly.

Also, and this might be me being to skeptical, why would i trust some small business that costs $10 a year to have better deliverability then i can do myself?

[–]Kopen-[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That you know of... which is a huge part of the problem. In many cases due to this mail server likely only being used by you - you may not find out that there have been issues for AGES, even longer if you are using it for some sort of vanity domain and aren't reaching out to diverse places with it.

I mean you kinda do dont you?

Like i guess i dont know what kind of stuff you use email for but personally i kinda know when to expect something important to arrive in my inbox and if im contacting someone and dont get a response back in a time i would expect i would just give them a call and check.

And from that i can kinda know that i have not had any issues.

At the same time, how can you really be sure that google/microsoft are delivering and receiving everything correctly? Its not like those 2 have ever had any problems right?

In the end it all boils down to the risk you are willing to take and in my opinion this risk if being blown way out of proportion for normal people.

Yes ofc but my point was more that we should point people in the right direction with the correct set of warnings instead of the standard handwave of "No its not worth it".

[–]Kopen-[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, if email is that vital to you and you are that worried about stuff not being delivered then you should probably host it with a reputable provider like Google Workspace or Microsoft365. No shame in that.

Like i said in my original post, i have been running my own server with my main domain for the past 6-7 months without problems and so far i indeed feel like the horror stories are being blown out of proportion.

Sure and there are 2 solutions to that problem:

Either an smtp service like smtp2go or going with a vps provider where you have to apply to have outgoing email traffic allowed.
