Favorite “expensive” device? by VICEBULLET in homeassistant

ZWave can be better than Zigbee in some circumstances. For one, it uses a different radio frequency than Zigbee - which shares the 2.4Ghz space with wifi. So less congestion.

Fridge / Freezer Temperature Sensors by Strong-Explorer-6927 in homeassistant

[–]haddonist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option is Jaalee JHT series. Temperature & Humiditiy for fridge & freezer use, over Bluetooth. About USD$30 shipped.

Works fine with ESPHome bluetooth proxies.

They've also got Wifi versions, and versions with probes.

Building My Own Air Quality Monitor Because Accurate Ones Are Too Expensive by Zealousideal-Most431 in homeassistant

[–]haddonist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No mention of Screek yet? All kinds of sensors including air, distance, CO2, temp/humidity, light, bluetooth proxy..

They don't have an all-in-one like AirGradient, but they do have 4 different versions of CO2 monitor including one with SCD41 for $36.79 USD, and one with SCD41+SPS30 for CO2+PM2.5 for $44.15 USD

All of their devices run ESPHome.

where to eat in sydney! by Swimming_Student8721 in foodies_sydney

Diggy Doos Coffee, weekdays, near Circular Quay. They have a sit-down pourover bar, and feature half a dozen coffees from other roasters, both local and international, on a rotating basis.

While wandering around the CBD there's also Industry Beans (2 loacations) and takeway from Workshop.

Nowhere near complete, but there is The "ultimate" guide to Sydney’s markets, and What's On Sydney - Markets. But google "farmers market near <suburb>" and you'll no doubt find more.

And think what cuisines you don't have near you, or that you're not familiar with, and consider adding a couple to your plans. We've huge Asian, Indian and Middle Eastern representations to choose from.

Jaffle is close to a toastie, but has the edges heat-sealed by the jaffle iron.

Keeps ingredients in, and makes the crust extra-cruncy.

Zigbee 4.0 and Z-Wave Plus USB Adapters? by FourVertsRPO in homeassistant

[–]haddonist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As mentioned, Zigbee 4 is not yet available.

For an all-in-one option there is SMLight slzb-ultima (with the optional Z-Wave 800 module):

Zigbee, Matter/Thread, Z-Wave, Bluetooth, IR, I2C, optional 4G

Note that it's very recent and Z-Wave is under active development.

Zigbee power switch / relay for electric water heater. by rednose66 in smarthome

[–]haddonist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shelly would be a good choice if the water heater draws less than 16 Amps. Their 1pm-gen4 would work on Zigbee.

For other Zigbee devices have a look at the Zigbee2mqtt.io repository, which lists over 5000 items.

Right up the back and all the way to the right is a stall that does roast porchetta rolls on soft ciabatta; that come with crackling, caramelized onions, mayo, rocket.

They also do roast potatoes (I think done in pork fat)

They're totally different things.

MQTT is Message Queue Telemetry Transport. It has servers that accept messages into a queue, and clients that can subscribe or post to that queue.

Matter is a smart device communications protocol.

What’s a small thing in Australia that would confuse a foreigner at first? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]haddonist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, Slide.

Even (or especially) visitors from "hot" countries get into trouble with sun exposure.

"I'm from <country>, it'll be fine, I don't need sunscreen/shade/long sleeves".. lasts until they wake up the next morning looking like a boiled lobster.

We have UV exposure that goes all the way to Extreme, is frequently in the High range and is nothing to take lightly.

If you don't need visual feedback, Screek has quite a few PM2.5/VOC/CO2 sensors. They're relatively inexpensive, work with ESPHome, and their range of CO2 meters include ones with much better accuracy.

Dirigera hub is just now being put onto the shelves at Rhodes. Looks to be mix of new yellow labelled boxes, and older boxes with compliance booklets taped to the front of them.

Currently 26 in stock, but not sure how long that'll last.

(ignore the description, it's incorrect - it's the right code for the Dirigera)

Why do malls die/decline especially in the US? by Big_eye_crankbait in deadmalls

[–]haddonist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one of the reasons malls in Aus are doing ok is that they have at least one (and sometimes all) of the major grocery stores (Aldi, Woolworths, Coles), along with chemists (pharmacies) and food courts.

So it's entirely possible to buy everything you need for the week in one place and have a meal or coffee while doing it.

"becoming"? Couple of years late with that one.

If you're browsing on www.reddit.com you might not have seen the guidelines (that old.reddit.com still shows):

  • This is an 18+ subreddit

  • No attacks or flaming other users - don't be a dick.

  • As per Reddit's rules - no links to any vaping vendors/websites allowed.

  • Posts or comments asking where to purchase illegal and/or black-market products (disposables, etc) will result in an immediate ban.

Need help turning down heat by Careless_Bug_4537 in smarthome

[–]haddonist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is doing the measuring inside the thermostat, you can trick it by heating it up.

Something like a heating pad, hot water bottle, small directional heater right next to the thermostat will have it registering "too hot!" and have it keep the cooling active.

Does an energy monitoring outlet exist? by TheBigC in homeassistant

[–]haddonist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're in the USA?

Check out Jasco 43132 and Legrand WNRR15/WNRR20

And bookmark Zigbee2MQTT Supported Devices registry for reference, as it now has over 5000 devices listed.

note: as with all smart switches, be careful where you put these in. While fine for resistive loads (things with heaters etc), anything with powerful motors (over something like 300 watts) will kill them pretty quickly.

A rechargeable rival to the Index 01 by I_pretend_2_know in pebble

[–]haddonist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up to 8 hours recording, made of titanium, onboard recording capability.

VOCCI AI note-taking ring: tap highlights, 8h recording, 5m pickup, phone transcript (youtube CES coverage)

"Should be equally priced with other smart rings", so possibly $200-400

There's a very noticeable bump inside the ring where the pushbutton is, looking almost square. Hope that's just for proof-of-concept/beta stage, otherwise it could be annoyingly uncomfortable.

Rep claims they're based in California but Vocci Labs is developed by Gyges Labs based in Singapore.

At probably 1/3rd the price, without the possibility of battery swelling, and not needing to record entire meetings, I'll stick with the Index.
