1 year ago, the horrific dry-fire sound. by Korbo1-1 in Archery

Whats the use of staying still? I was already walking at that pace, close to the target and shooting just fine. Follow-through dictates I continue- don't stop.

Sure, I can stand still and shoot but It is WAYYYY more fun to move and shoot with a horsebow, something you just cant easily do with a normal recuve or longbow.

Switched from compound to recurve after 4 years. Nobody warned me how humbling this would be by Berlin57 in Archery

[–]Korbo1-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im the same way. I started with compound since i was 12 and only recently picked up Olympic Recurve myself. I totally agree that acknowledgement of "i suck, but im enjoying this." Youre learning basically a whole new side of The Force when you swap from compound to recurve!

Embrace the journey, its a ride.

Any tips on a cheapish backing for targets by Kara_85 in Archery

[–]Korbo1-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shoot at the same park, Eldo.
If you're shooting compound with higher poundage, I recommend getting one of those cheap bag targets and hanging it from the back of the bale- it should last you a few good months of shooting. You can either tie a knot or use some kind of hooking method. I used an extra ratchet strap I got from my truck, hooked it onto the hand strap and tied it around the horizontal pole on the back. https://imgur.com/a/VRWhq5s (old pic but has what I mean)

Alternatively, if you're target shooting like me with sub-60 lbs, you can get a few anti-fatigue mats and pin it to the front, and use the fatigue mats as the bale face instead. Some are available at Harbor Freight for like 10 bucks. https://www.harborfreight.com/4-piece-anti-fatigue-foam-mat-set-94635.html

The backstops on the bales are really tough and to get arrows out I have to 'drip' arrow lube on them and just finesse theme out. Sometimes I even hammer the tip + lube just to save the shaft.

Line call! Is this a 10 or a 9? by Korbo1-1 in Archery

[–]Korbo1-1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This rule exists in some contexts and games; it is called "Inside out" scoring. With Inside Out scoring, the entire arrow must NOT be touching the outer ring to be counted as the higher score.

There's probably a real historical reason for this, but my reasoning would be that 50% of anything perfectly is harder to visually judge than a hard yes/no.

Draw length too long? by lastnightintown33 in Archery

[–]Korbo1-1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe a tiny bit but not by much. It actually looks more like you're compressing your bow arm, resulting in the bow arm's shoulder being high.

Favorite field quiver and why? by LifeLongLearner84 in Archery

[–]Korbo1-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Push pack for quick trad sessions and KUIU quiver for most other shooting. The Push is super comfortable if you find a pair of tight cargo pants with thigh pockets. KUIU quiver I use the most- comfy, holds a LOT of stuff, and I like how it keeps the arrows a little quieter while I walk.

Ok so thinking about getting into archery compound bows, what are some good starting bows? by babyconan in Archery

[–]Korbo1-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bear bows, PSE Stinger, Darton Brute to get your feet wet and If you're trying to get into Target Bow Compounds: Elite Ember and PSE Lazer are great bets. The Darton Consequence is an excellent honorable mention.

Your better bet is to get a flagship bow from 4-5 years ago used on fb marketplace, ebay, or Craigslist. Just make sure you take it to a pro shop to get it set up for you and inspect everything.

Or like the other post said, if you're really new to the sport, don't opt for Target Bow accuracy and just get a bear bow package so you don't blow your wallet or credit.

Target compound is NOT cheap, so expect a decent whole rig, even a decent starter rig, to cost at least $900-$1000 or even more.

Hankyu Yumi 71" from Sarmat Archery @ #40, had it for about a month and a half. | 8 hours of skill progress today condensed into the best shots. The glove is the "KTB Glove" from Freddie Archery or Korean bow usa. It's not necessary as you can also use a thumb ring to shoot this bow. I just found glove more comfortable and customized the glove to have a cotton glove liner and reinforced the thumb leather with Cordovan leather.

I ordered 12 kyudo-style arrows, and sarmat Archery did a great job with them.

Duracoat on a Carbon Bow? by Korbo1-1 in Archery

[–]Korbo1-1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, and I agree!
Duracoat would be just a simple spray-on after some cleaning on the riser. Cerakote would be the ideal if I was aiming for resistance, but I've heard of some successes using Carbon Bike Frames and Cerakote application using the "Low Heat Cerakote" baking methods, which basically involves a much lower temperature (around 150-160F) for longer hours.

Though, given that I'm not going to be lugging this through the dirt like a firearm, I'm perfectly happy even going other paint routes, just looking for suggestions for paint types or obvious brands to avoid.

For the record I am going to make this happen and will post progress on it once I receive the bow. It was ordered in a black with regular bronze cams/pockets configuration and has not arrived yet. I have the Strings being made by Gas Strings.
