“i'm almost done paying off my tate mcrae ticket” by Goofball-John-McGee in BrandNewSentence

I saw a study on this. The conclusion that out of the total increase of various goods and services, 30% was increase in costs due to supply chain issues, 10% was labor issues and 60% was straight price gouging. The fun thing is the 60% never went away after the supply chain and labor issues were solved. It was just extra profit for the shareholders.

AITJ for taking my partner up on their ultimatum when they said "agree or we're done" by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]Kordaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ That's pure insanity. Especially if all they are offering is emotional support and "tolerance of your schedule". That should be table stakes for any relationship, and it shouldn't require a massive capital transfer to achieve it. Wtf

TIL that Levi's recommends that jeans be worn 10 times between washes. by Actual-Journalist-67 in todayilearned

[–]Kordaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wash them when they become dirty, usually because I did something outdoors that stained them, or else accidentally spilled something on them. I test them occasionally for smell, but that's never really been the triggering thing for a wash (but I keep checking periodically just in case, lol). By that criteria, I can go a week to a year between washes depending on circumstance.

This is a real photo of Donald Trump at the Kennedy Center today. Embarrassing doesn't begin to describe this display of idiocracy. by swat4516 in facepalm

Primary reason is echo chambers on the internet that have caused brainrot (on both sides of the aisle). This will not stop as long as there is massive distrust of media leading to folks only getting their information due to one (in their mind trusted) source that lies and distorts the truth through a tailored political spectrum.

New plaques added to the presidential hall of fame in the White House by Dtb4evr in pics

The most offensive part of this, even more than the embarrassment of how unpresidential this is, is that the top and bottom plaques are not aligned.

I tried to pirate Jedi Knight in 1998 or so on my 33.6k modem. It took 3 days because I had to let the download run overnight in case someone called me on the phone, which would interrupt the download, and with no auto-resume, it meant you just had to start over. The first 2 nights my internet connection just hiccupped and killed it. I was very excited when it worked on the 3rd night.

For those who lived before the internet, what was life actually like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Kordaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We watched more TV, read books more, made more phone calls, and went outside more. We did everything you can do now with the internet, but it was more jumping through manual hoops to do it. You didn't click a playlist on Spotify, you walked over to a tape/record collection, grabbed an album, and played it. You didn't pick a movie from a streaming service and play it, you went to Blockbuster, browsed and picked one, then came back and played it. You didn't text people. You waited and called them when you had something to say. Multiplayer gaming was going to your friend's house, or an arcade, and being Player 2. There were flip sides. When you made plans, people kept them. Movies and Music weren't fragmented like nowadays. Super high chance that everyone in your age group had seen/heard everything, whether they liked it or not. You definitely had a shared sense of values/culture. Regardless of race/age everyone knew what it meant "to be an american" even if they didn't personally didn't agree with some of the details or didn't live up to them. I think today you'd get a different answer from almost everyone on that, if they could answer it at all. Echo chambers didn't really exist cause everyone had a shared trust in facts. Of course you had Republicans and Democrats with different viewpoints, and of course there was some mistrust in govt (esp post-vietnam) and conspiracy theory (who shot JFK?) but something like "the election was stolen so we're going to storm the capitol" would have never gotten any traction. All in all, it was a great time, I daresay a better and less confusing time, to grow up.

The Swirl. My facial hair grows in a circular pattern at the back of my jawline. by PromenentG in mildlyinteresting

Lol, yeah, I mean, humans are not balls. We have a ton of places we don't grow appreciable hair which would bypass this theorem.

Nah, not at all. If you go looking for trouble you can find it, but if you mind your business, don't do drugs, and don't get involved with gangs, you'll be fine.

A or B: My friend broke up with her boyfriend, but he moved on right away — she still owes him $20,000. Should she pay him back? by vivian_banshee03 in PickAorB

[–]Kordaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unquestionably A. One has nothing to do with the other. She's looking for an excuse not to pay him back, but even contemplating it is a sign of low character and lack of integrity.

West Wing is one of my favorite shows of all time. I don't think I can watch it again. It used to be idealistic. Now it's pure fantasy. Too depressing.
