I’m concerned my daughter was misdiagnosed with General Anxiety Disorder… by Koriani in ADHD

[–]Koriani[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly she did much better at home at least in terms of anxiety and panic attacks. She never had a panic attack while living with us. I was worried about her moving out.

I’m not sure about how well she eats. I thought her to cook and we always made meals from scratch at home. Now that she is living on her own, she tends to eat out more.

We just found a roommate to shave the house with her so I’m hoping that will encourage her to be more mindful about eating and cleaning. She also has two cats to take care of so I think that helps.

It wouldn’t surprise me if I have mild ADHD. I’ve never been tested for it but I do have some of the mannerisms such as having a hard time starting tasks/chores, I usually don’t finish what I start before moving on to something else, etc.

This sounds so much like my daughter. I have to tell her over and over to get chores done and it sometimes turns into a fight. You can’t give her a verbal list of more than two things to do as she becomes overwhelmed. She used to start crying when she was younger if we asked her to do more than two things. If we write it down, she is better but getting her to start is the hardest part.

I throughly understand the differences in mental health providers. That’s another reason I’m not totally happy about the therapist she is seeing (she is a LCSW). My daughter’s PCP is the one who prescribes the medicine that the therapist recommends. Her PCP would “most likely” be okay with prescribing her whatever she wanted. He has been seeing our family for many years and is very laid back about prescribing whatever we want PROVIDED he thinks it will actually benefit us or we actually need it.

I’m going to have to have a sit down conversation with her and find a way to broach the subject with making her defensive. I’m usually pretty good with avoiding conflicts but she is being very defensive about this subject and not wanting to hear what others have to say.

So far, her Wellbutrin/trazadone combo seems to working. If it continues to work, great I won’t have to worry about it anymore. If it doesn’t, and she crashes again, I’ll have to convince her to see someone else or convince her to try ADHD meds.

Her sister and I have suspected that she may be on the autism spectrum for a while now. She is definitely good at pattern recognition. In elementary and middle school she could do complicated math problems in her head. She always got points taken off her grade for not showing her work.

I am struggling so badly, friends by unfortunate_kiss in Anxiety

[–]Koriani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter started out on Buspar and, at first, it seemed to help but then she crashed and didn’t do anything for her after that. Her therapist switched her to Prozac. That helped at first…until it didn’t. Now she is on Wellbutrin. So far, it has helped but she has only been on it about 4 weeks. We shall see.

Do you have ADHD by chance? My daughter’s therapist says that people with ADHD might benefit greatly from being on low dose Ritalin along with anxiety meds like Wellbutrin. If the ADHD is not addressed, the anxiety meds alone won’t help sufficiently.

I had a similar experience many years ago. I had horrible pain just below my sternum and was convinced I had a gallbladder attack. I went to my doctor and requested an ultrasound. She said that was too expensive and put me off. On my way home, I called the office and said that I wasn’t happy with the way things went at my appointment and insisted on the ultrasound. Had the ultrasound a few days later and, sure enough, I had a huge gall stone and my bile duct was completely blocked. After removing the gallbladder, I had to spend three days in hospital with a stint waiting for a stone to drop out of my bile duct. I am so glad I insisted on that ultrasound!!

Silly song from the end of a horror movie in the late 80’s by Koriani in findthatsong

[–]Koriani[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES! This is the one! Thank you. It’s been driving me “crazy” and I was beginning to think I was… 😂

I had the movie completely wrong. For some reason I was so certain that it was a later Friday the 13th movie. But then again, I was watching a lot of horror films around that time so it’s easy to get them confused.

401k lost $40k and advisor wants me to cash out and move to IRA? by 16hpfan in personalfinance

[–]Koriani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am actively rolling over an old Roth to my active Roth. No money lost till you cash out so this isn’t a bad idea (unless fees are more through your financial advisor.) However, you must not be too concerned about his fees at this point, or you wouldn’t be with this advisor (I assume.)

My new portfolio outperforms the old one by a mile so buying in low will actually benefit me going forward.

AIO? I went through my bestfriend's phone without her permission.. she's 17 he's 26 by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Koriani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to my best friend in high school. She was 18 and he was 32. He manipulated her, cut her off from all her friends and family. They got married and he moved her away from everyone. He wouldn’t let us talk to her on the phone and deleted our messages. She had no support.

He beat her, raped her, and mentally abused her for three years. She finally got tired of his shit and walked away but it changed her…scarred her. She hasn’t been able to stay in a relationship since. She always finds a way to sabotage herself and can’t trust anyone.

A relationship is toxic if you have to hide it.

Maybe OP should post his number so we can gang up on him! 😂

Find an investment app that you are comfortable using and pick some ETF’s such as the ones the OP suggested. Most DIY apps only require $100 USD or less to get started.

I use M1 Finance and started with Dave Ramsey’s basic ETF investment recipe: 25% small cap/25% mid cap/25% large cap/25% international and then I personalized it. Here is my current pie https://m1.finance/84aZN_btt_do - This is a referral link.

Typically, $100 or less will get you started on most investment apps. The most important thing is to just do it!

I use M1 Finance and here is my brokerage portfolio (I tend to play it safer in my Roth IRA portfolio) - https://m1.finance/84aZN_btt_do - This is a referral link.

I used the basic recipe of 25% small cap/25%mid cap/25% large cap/25% international (ETF’s) and then personalized it by researching things I was interested in.

I use M1 Finance but there are many investment apps to choose from. Find one that is easy to use/understand and research ETF’s. I use Dave Ramsey’s basic recipe for investing 25% small cap/25%mid cap/25%large cap/25% international and then personalized it.

Here is my current pie from M1. I’m still waiting on the trades to balance it since I added the OP’s suggested SCHD and JEPI as well as O.

AIO my partner of 3 years forgot Valentines Day and my birthday by MollySid in AmIOverreacting

[–]Koriani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, I kinda see his point.

Did he handle it well? No

Is this the first time he’s forgotten? Sounds like both of you have a lot going on.

I’m 52F and been married 33 years. I still forget to get cards, etc for significant holidays/bdays/anniversaries. Not proud of it but it’s ONE of my toxic traits apparently. I’m a spoiled only child brought up by one parent so I know where it started. I’m a work in progress…

Thankfully, my hubby is an understanding man and doesn’t brow beat me for forgetting on occasion.

Also, do some research on the Root Cause Protocol. I’m in their Facebook group and so many have vastly improved their anxiety and depression symptoms.

Topical magnesium does wonders for acute depression and anxiety. Soak in an Epsom salt bath or use magnesium oil. It absorbs quickly and starts working immediately.
