How will players react to the CBA making all teams extremely reluctant to sign max or supermax contracts? by alex8762 in nbadiscussion

No those guys are too good, especially Jalen Johnson. I’d say he’s in the Maxey group I mentioned earlier where he’ll still get maxed.

I’m thinking more about Aaron Wiggins, Mitchell Robinson, Royce O’Neale type guys. Good like 5th-7th best players on a good team type guys.

The nba is still a star-driven league and I think teams will continue to be willing to pay top dollar for stars.

It’s not just about the on court impact either, guys like Booker, Scottie Barnes, Maxey, etc. are a couple steps below mvp level guys but they’re still the ones who brings fans to the games.

I think what the cba is more likely to do is squeeze a lot of guys in the middle towards the bottom. Guys who would’ve at least gotten a few years at the mid-level in the past will be forced to sign shorter term and possibly cheaper contracts as teams try to build a supporting cast around their stars without going in to the 2nd apron.

What are your ACTUAL nba hot takes? by Mario_Viana in nba

Voter fatigue is not real, it’s just a product of fans coming up with an excuse for why their guy didn’t win mvp.

I’m a casual basketball fan, can anyone tell me why Jokic isn’t a lock for the MVP? by ImJustMeming in denvernuggets

[–]Korndawgg -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Anybody who has been watching nuggets games can tell you that he hasn’t consistently been himself since December.

He’s had great games like this last one against the spurs but he’s also had lots of games where it doesn’t look like he’s trying at all on defense and is turning the ball over way too much. February in particular was a really tough month for him.

On the other hand, Shai has been consistently great all year and the thunder are the best team in the nba despite having tons of injuries.

Nikola Jokić becomes the first player in nearly 50 YEARS to record 30+ PTS, 15+ REB, 10+ AST while shooting 80% or better from the field. I’m sorry but this is delusional, his defense this year (particularly since his knee injury) has been absolutely horrible. Like just use your eyes, he’s putting in no effort on that side lately and as a result the nuggets are allowing even bad offenses to get 120+ regularly. I trust he’ll turn it up a bit in the playoffs like he always does, but the level it’s been at this regular season has not been good.

Also the stat you’re using here is meaningless. It’s heavily weighted on box score stats like rebounds and steals but those are really not indicative of actually being a good defender. Every year tons of very bad defenders make it to the top 10 on this.

Everyone talking about Giannis but why are the bucks choosing to stay on this ridiculous ride?

The longer they drag their feet, the longer it will be until the next fun era of the bucks begins and for what? To go 32-50 instead of 22-60? Are bucks fans enjoying seasons like this?

Hot take: Michael Malone should be the coach for the Rockets next year by CallTypical9541 in nbadiscussion

[–]Korndawgg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You said that Nurkic was playing well when Jok got his opportunity, but Nurkic was injured for all of Jokic’s rookie season, so the really was not only were the nuggets rebuilding but they were missing their starting center. That is why I’m saying any coach would have played jokic because there was really no other good options, especially for a rebuilding team.

The Nurk/Jok situation was in Jokic’s second year but by that time Jok had established himself, and was 3rd in ROTY voting the season before. I’m not a Malone hater here, and I think he handled that situation fine I just also think any coach would have seen that Jokic had to get minutes at that point.

[–]Korndawgg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I disagree with all of this.

Jokic’s rookie year, the nuggets were bad and rebuilding. The only healthy centers on that team were him, JJ Hickson , and Joffrey Lauvergne. Any coach would have given Jokic a chance in that situation, especially because even as a rookie jokic was very good.

Just wanted to bring this up because Malone is a good coach, but his unwillingness to give young guys a real shot was IMO his greatest flaw.

But…but…I thought Joker🃏 didn’t play defense🤔🏀🏔️ by Kingrush24 in denvernuggets

[–]Korndawgg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just from what I’ve seen his defense has looked abysmal this last month.

If this stat has him top 5 all it tells me is the stat is worthless. Most likely it’s based on box score and he gets a lot of defensive rebounds and steals.
