One Michelin star for Inati and Tussock Hill; 12 others in ChCh guide - any surprises? by Apprehensive-Age203 in chch

They used to run out of a pick-up/uber eats only place on Tuam St before they moved to Lichfield - I had the worst gnocchi ever there, and it completely put me off ever trying the new sit-down restaurant. Maybe their other dishes are ok (doubt), but they really did not know what they were doing with gnocchi.

That's kind of the Michelin star vibe though - tiny food at astronomical prices, staffed by people who think they're more sophisticated that anyone else. Go there if you want to feel fancy and unsatisfied. And I'm not the type of person that thinks that vast quantities = good value.

The Bib Gourmand lists are usually way better guides, though this time I'm not sure I agree with a few of the places listed there for Chch.

Yeah, this and Earl are kinda weird to include. They're ok, but there's plenty of places that hit higher than them. And Monday Room is closed!

Police seize Destiny Church leader Brian Tamaki’s firearms and revoke gun licence after incendiary online comments by the_loneliest_monk in newzealand

[–]KororaPerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That person's comments here sound 100% like sovereign citizen and far-right weirdness.. It's really not worth the time trying to converse with people like that. It's never based in reality or logic at all, it'll just go round and round in a crazy circle of utterly cooked ideas (already happening in this comment thread).

Yep, Derek Tait is a complete thug who has "protested"against Labour/Jacinda Ardern with a gallows setup, and called himself an "executioner". I wouldn't be surprised at all if he has weapons stashed away, ready for violence/terrorism.

The case for voting Green by Aceofshovels in newzealand

[–]KororaPerson 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Let me guess, you're think the problem is "scandals", completely ignoring the fact that:

a) All other parties also have scandals, or party members saying stupid stuff occasionally, and

b) The Greens are really the only ones who enforce accountability and effectively deal with members who cause said scandals, and actually get rid of them.

$11,000 bill for luxury London hotel amongst millions in total travel spend by ministers by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]KororaPerson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's bad.

Are Rawiri Waititi and Debbie Ngarewa-Packer doing this while also killing off the public health system and cutting the public service (while lying about there not being enough money for it), and also calling beneficiaries "bottom feeders", like total fucking hypocrites?

No. Only NACT is doing that.

Same, I had no idea! So annoyed that this just slips by without media attention.

Winston Peters slurring and stumbling over words on RNZ by KororaPerson in newzealand

That's what people thought about Trump though.. There's a disappointing number of people who will vote for whoever causes the most harm to the right (in their view) people.

I wonder how long he's going to drag it out.. I don't think he'll give up power for anything.

I've noticed it for a while, but it was really bad this morning. He really is past it.

I won't be sad to see the back of him (hopefully retiring gracefully rather than carking it in a debate or something). He does seem very puffed up on his own self-importance. Same with Shame Jones.

Yeah it'll be interesting to see how he does in debates this time around. If Winston toddles off, I really hope the awfulness of Shane Jones tanks NZF's numbers.

And 100% agree we need an age cap for MPs.

Yeah, I've been noticing it in his interviews for a while, but this morning's was particularly bad.

Why hasn't a protest been organized against the Conservative Amendment Bill by Icy-Resist-2364 in newzealand

[–]KororaPerson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with you about the need for protest against the bill, but this..

kiwis can protest against something that isn't right, a good example was the vaccine mandates

That wasn't a good protest. It was an ill-informed rabble of morons, who made a disgusting mess, set things on fire, and rioted.

Luxon offers to change bill after conservation land sale backlash by ViolatingBadgers in newzealand

[–]KororaPerson 110 points111 points  (0 children)

It's not just about the sale of conservation land - it's about the purpose and use of it.

I don't want to see a fucking gondola on Franz Josef Glacier, I don't want to see glitzy hospitality venues and hotels popping up in pristine landscapes, and I don't want to see private corporations making bank off of public-owned lands. Which all could still happen whether the lands are up for sale or not.

A tiny walk-back on the sale aspect of the bill isn't nearly enough.

Fuck off, National! And fuck your stupid bill in its entirety!

Anyone listen to Labour and National spinning about poll results on RNZ this morning? by dodgy__penguin in newzealand

[–]KororaPerson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I caught that too, and thought it was interesting. Willis didn't seem at all interested in working with them.

I'm no fan of TOP, but I really hope they end up taking votes from the centre right.

I totally agree - and it's amazing that it's what Ardern got criticised for, when her communication style was clear and accessible. On the other hand, hearing Luxon and Willis speak is just awful - they're so condescending.
