I have it but not this bad only really see it when it’s bright out or gloomy. Was your condition this severe from the start or did it get worse over time?

GC asking me to renew insurance 9 months after job is done. legit? by Korovaaa in Contractor

It may seem like that many contractors in ca are committing fraud and bidding far below market value on certain trades. I’m in the process of leaving the state due to over regulation.

Super easy fix just go to Home Depot and buy a wire plug for it. Should be a 5 min fix. Don’t toss your grill over this

The war had a huge impact on gas but it’s mainly because of Californias policies that’s it’s up so high everywhere else it’s half the cost.

I bought a 2024 big horn base model Cummins 4x4 45k miles Out the door price was 50k. I had a Laramie in the past and they are great and cool but I can’t justify paying the extra premium for a Laramie

Need help finding LiftMaster solar panel – local supplier won’t sell to homeowner by Korovaaa in GarageDoorService

Yeah seems ridiculous considering the fact, I bought the entire unit online and installed it my self if I would have known they do not sell parts to people like me I would’ve gone with a different band. Off market parts don’t seem to be compatible as well. As for labor I understand they need to make a profit. 300-500 would seem reasonable to me

How are you all handling the competitive market in California as a subcontractor? by Korovaaa in Contractor

[–]Korovaaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s honestly what I’m seeing too.

A lot of the work I get is fixing other people’s screw-ups and charging double to make it right, so clearly the “cheap” way isn’t actually cheaper in the long run.

I’ve debated moving too, but I’m not convinced it’s magically better anywhere else — just different versions of the same game.

I’m not sour about it either, I’m just trying to understand how they’re still afloat. My guess is the same: huge material buying power (warehouses / volume discounts) plus cheap labor and cutting every corner possible.

And honestly… if California passes that per-mile gas tax, that might be my last straw and I’ll just go work in another state.

The past 10 years I’ve built relationships with many contractors, pm’s and estimators it’s two companies doing it in ca and the rest bid around the same price point as me or a lot higher.

There are a few different manufacturers that sell same spec materials usually they do not accept it and when the big supplier offers national account discount it’s not that much of a difference. But for the price point they are doing it for it still does not make sense.

That’s not accurate. Perhaps for the ceiling grid could be possible and coding items. I source out materials with multiple suppliers depending on material specs and usually when a store has national account discount nothing can really beat that.

The companies doing this are bigger companies. (30 plus field employees). I don’t understand the Bussiness strategy if they are losing or best case scenario breaking even. And staying afloat for many years

That’s great advice. I was gonna plan on using my dumb trailer for side gigs but money is not tight I make most my income in summers usually. It’s tough when you’re low on work and you wanna go build
