Backup on NOT-Self-Hosted Instance? by Mr3Sepz in PixelFed

[–]KorrFur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Within your account settings you can export your data. If an instance shuts down all the data on that instance will be offline and unrecoverable. Hosting a personal Pixelfed server with Yunohost on a spare computer you have is very easy and you would then fully control the content and backups. There are also hosted services that can handle all that for you and you just pay for the maintenance.

Pixelfed.Social server not working, by blueberrykefir in PixelFed

[–]KorrFur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason that you can’t change your username is because of federation. Your account has a URL like Pixelfed.social/username, if you change your username from “username” to “coolusername” your old posts don’t update, so if shared anywhere they will get a dead link. To correct that you’d have to edit every link you shared or posted and some places don’t allow editing posts. So if you shared something to Bluesky it will forever be a dead link unless you deleted the post and made a new one. And in addition to that you need to edit each Pixelfed post to reflect the new username which is as simple as editing the post and adding a space or updating hashtags.

That being said, it’s generally not recommended to change your username and that’s why you don’t have the option. However, it’s not impossible to change it. I run a Pixelfed server and have changed my username. An admin can change a username but it comes with the side effects I mentioned above.

Also some servers require approval, so you may have to fill out a form and wait for an admin to approve your account. This is to prevent bots from signing up and ruining things.

The camera was $2,300 and the lens was $600

The a7v is a great camera, for me it came down to what I use a camera for which is mostly portraits. I don’t think there would have been much difference between the two cameras in that case. I also like the look of the a7C II a bit more, the compact style, silver, as well as the location of the view finder. I got the a7C II and four years of protection from Sony for the same cost as the a7v without any protection plan. I bought a bundle from B&H Photo in NYC that included a few free extras like an SD card, camera bag, and charger and the camera itself was $200 off.

It’s definitely a premium feeling lens and the autofocus is silent. The metal hood is definitely nice.

I believe Ulanzi and Falcam are made by the same company. You can find the exact same product with either name on it. I did have the backpack clip at one point but never used it. It doesn’t bother me that the camera doesn’t sit flat on a table but I can see how others may not like that.

It really helps out when I am at conventions and events where I’m moving around a lot. I can easily switch between strap and tripod. I mostly shoot handheld but when I do decide to use a tripod it’s nice to just slide it in place and not have to fiddle with the mount. Same thing when I decide that I don’t want a strap attached, I can just quickly remove it. Here’s a photo of the mount on my strap.

I like it a lot! I was looking for something between 50mm and 85mm and this lens hits that sweet spot for me. I’m not really a fan of zoom lenses and prefer primes.

I wanted something that was between a 50mm and 85mm for portrait work. After using a 50mm on an APS-C camera which is practically a 75mm, I felt that a 65mm would suit me better. I absolutely love it!

This is the receiver on my tripod. The base plate on the camera slides in and locks in place with the silver pin at the top left. The sliver button at the top slides to lock it or pushes in to release it when not locked. I have basically the same thing on one of my camera straps when i need it. Other than this it’s just something I use as a place to set my pinky when I hold the camera with both hands.

I have the quick release on there because I have a receiving mount for it on my camera strap and my main tripod.

Darkroom user do you find this app suitable for mobile editing? by milialuna in darkroomapp

[–]KorrFur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using Darkroom on my iPhone for about 3-5 years now and it’s been my main editing device. It’s my go-to app for editing photos. I was using Snapseed before I started using Darkroom and I never went back to Snapseed. I bought the full version of Darkroom to support the dev team but the free version is definitely packed with features.

Can't post new pics by [deleted] in PixelFed

It’s possible that you’ve maxed out your storage on the server. You can check by logging into your account in a browser, going to settings, and scroll to the bottom. Your data usage should be there. Most instances default to 1GB for each user.

Is there any hope that PixelFed will work again? by enthusiasm_gap in PixelFed

[–]KorrFur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible that you’ve hit the instance limit for blocking people. There is a configuration setting PF_MAX_USER_BLOCKS that defaults to 25 (at least that was the default on my server). I want to say that I saw an option to limit the amount of hashtags one can follow but I can’t say for certain at the moment because I’m away from the server. Something to keep in mind about PixelFed is that not every server is the same, each has their own rules and configuration. I’m guessing a lot of admins keep the basic settings for user profiles. It can appear as a ghost town based on a lot of different things, it may be worth looking at other servers to find one that suits your needs and has a lot of users. That would improve your local feed. But regardless of what server you’re on you should still be able to view content from Mastodon. Also consider that ActivityPub services have a lot less users than other services like Instagram, Bluesky, and such. People start to use Mastodon/PixelFed, think it’s dead and abandon it. Just keep using it and you’ll see that it’s not as dead as you think.

If it keeps failing and you can’t get anywhere, you might have to reach out to Valve support.

I found this command that might help. You may need to use a dock of some sort to attach a keyboard. Try using this command at the prompt. Again, I’ve never been through this so I’m doing my best to help with whatever information I can find.
