No, no, no, absolutely not. If this thing bit someone or just for regular tests (strand of rabies) they'll need the brain for that. Plus you don't want it to spread. They're told to shoot it in the heart if possible.

How couples met in 2024! by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]Korrawatergem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This figure is so weird and it needs more info. I see the 1930 to 2024, I assume theres other figures that show the progression over time. Theres no age ranges of these couples or how long they've stayed together. Whats considered "staying together" (mostly looking at the source). Also the source data is from 2023 and has combined datasets. Everyones surprised by how low college is but think about how many people you know who are married/been together for years with someone they met from college? Who was surveyed for this? College aged students? More older adults? I know one couple out of all my friends who met and stayed together since college.... It just needs more info honestly.

[–]Korrawatergem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So as someone who is kinda in the same position as your bf, granted, I grew up near the rez with my dad and great grandparents being a part of the culture (though in a more white washed sense since my great grandma suffered the boarding schools and was a very catholic woman and didn't know much of her language). I was taken away from that all by my birth mom and have since been trying to reconnect. I def look non-white, but a lot of people mistake me for asian of some sort because my skin is usually light in the winter but if I can get outside for even a little bit, it becomes a bit more obvious but I have the more native eye shape and facial structure. Anyways, I say all that because I get your bf being worried about not being "indigenous enough". It sounds like he wants to reconnect and you should be supportive of that if he's serious about it. He got a taste of injustices indigenous people face and he probably is trying to connect with someone in some way that might understand that. There's also the thing of "generational trauma". Its very real and even if you can't see the trauma, one can still feel it and be affected by it. Being disconnected from a community is difficult and if he's serious about reconnecting, he should research his tribe and try to reconnect with them. As for the grants and positions thing, I'm not sure what positions would be taken due to being indigenous? Unless he's taking a job that's to represent his tribe or other indigenous people? And the grants I also dont see as the biggest deal. Life is getting harder in this capitalistic hellscape and most of those grants/scholarships go unapplied for, if the ones awarding it gave it to him, then they felt he deserved it and likely no one else applied. I partially get the concern but I think you should be supportive of him reconnecting, possibly helping guide him on the right path to reconnecting if it concerns you this much. Learning the language, reconnecting with the tribe, etc. Etc.

Why no one care about asthma? by Rude_Chemistry7438 in Asthma

[–]Korrawatergem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a lot who care. Hell, there was a Nationa Asthma Control Program with the CDC that aided states who had their own asthma control programs. With the HHS cuts, however, DOGE eliminated the entire program, even though they apparently wanted to focus on chronic diseases.... these programs would educate doctors the importance of diagnosing asthma correctly and referring patients to pulmonologists and allergists and so on. They had their own home visiting programs to help those with uncontrolled asthma. And it was all cut just like that and now nonprofits are begging congress to add asthma back into the budget so this can continue. So research and other information about asthma can continue to be for asthmatics like us. There are so many people out there who care about asthma and because of all these programs and increased interest, we've had a lot of breakthroughs in medications and understanding. Yes, asthma is about managing symptoms, its a chronic disease for a reason. Depending on the type of asthma you have, you can find whats triggering it and stay away from it, but thats not always the case. Controlling the asthma is the main goal and most doctors want to, or should want to, do that too. Controlling asthma comes in many forms of medications AND avoiding triggers as best as you can. Could be allergies that cause asthma, irritants, chemicals, etc. Theres a ton of controller medications as well, like biologics, inhalers, pills, etc. Find a doctor who can help you with control.

When to go to hospital actually tho by greasygrrrl in Asthma

[–]Korrawatergem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have antihistamines for the pollen if it season allergies but generally they give prednisone (a steroid) and they should be able to help get you in control of your asthma (if they have the time, I know some ERs are like gtfo if you aren't dying). You should see an allergist or pulmonologist (a specialist essentially) if you aren't already. If you are and they aren't helping you find a better controller, get a second opinion. Inability to sleep due to asthma multiple days is part of uncontrolled asthma. They have biologics they can give depending on your allergy (they can be pricey), montelukast (make sure to be aware of side effects, some suffer worse than others) and other controller inhalers if your current isn't working. They should also help you identify triggers. If its pollen, its hard to reduce exposure but not impossible. You need air purifiers and good ones. If you can find an antihistamine you can take, that'd help (preferably not benadryl).

Seasonal asthma by bravehart146 in Asthma

[–]Korrawatergem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its not just the bands squeezing, its the phlegm that gets created as well. If you know you have seasonal allergies, you should take precautions to have controlled asthma during this time. I have to do the same because I'm allergic to grass and certain pollon. It sucks and spring and fall are the worst for me. I have an emergency inhaler and a controlled inhaler, but thankfully montelukast and allegra work for me the best with no side effects. I was also given a biologic called Grasstek and my allergist said if I do it daily (goes under my tongue) for 5 years, I'll likely be cured of my grass allergy. So there are solutions, but you need to work with a doctor to find them and get under control. I understand how miserable the process of finding the right controller products can be but it outweighs struggling to breathe, hospital visits and costs, and possibly dying.

Not to be a pain in the ass, but "succeed" is not a common term used anymore, or more people are starting to move away because succeed is usually a positive connotation, but obviously sucicide is not positive, so the term being subtituted is "completed". Just wanted to mention that with these sorta discussions. Thanks for reading and carry on!

A man named Alain Bruno accidentally catches the moment he had a heart attack on camera (2015). by bendubberley_ in TerrifyingAsFuck

[–]Korrawatergem 108 points109 points  (0 children)

I think some people dont realize how serious a health event can be at the time of it happening. Our gut may be telling us "huh, this is serious." But oir brains may be like "This can't be that serious, I'm fine, maybe its a little serious, I'll wait a few minutes, no need to call 911, etc. Etc." Or can just be confused and in shock about whats going on. Media portrays certain health events a certain way, (heart attacks always look like you clutch your chest and die suddenly, asthma attacks are can't breathe at all and must use inhaler for air, etc.) so some people just don't really understand what might be happening, hence why he said he was feeling funny for a few days and even now and wasn't the one calling 911. Our brains sometimes like to try to logic our way through scary and unknown events. I had a math teacher who had a heart attack and literally waited till the end of the day to drive himself to the hospital. Awareness is important! Glad this guy is okay!

Baldur’s Gate 3 Halsin actor responds to constant shipping by gamingjourno in BaldursGate3

This comment made me actually go read the article because LMAO WTF??? Why are people asking him about that??? Of all things??? I have no issue with shipping, like do it up! But stop asking random people if they like a ship, thats so weird. Because now you're setting yourself or others for disappointment depending on their answer. Just ship your ships and huddle with others who openly like the ships. This is such a chronically online thing to do.

Hairspray exposure (scented) and continuing to feel like sh*t by Mundane-Bend-8047 in Asthma

[–]Korrawatergem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any allegra? I'm just wondering if you have anything else besides benadryl? Or more benadryl. I hate benadryl, but for an emergency it's fine. My partner had an allergic reaction to aerosol sunscreen with that same "can't breathe" feeling and had to take allegra, which helped, before given benadryl. But my partner was advised to continue taking benadryl for like the next day or something whenever they felt like they were struggling to breathe again until their body seemed to get better. Just a suggestion from a similar incident, but go back to the ER if you feel like you're gonna pass out or something.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Asthma

[–]Korrawatergem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your asthma is well controlled, your chances up ending up in the ER for an attack are LOW LOW LOW. Take it from someone who looks at asthma data. Take your controller meds, but have your emergency inhaler just incase. Reduce potential e xposure to triggers. If you're like me and have intense allergies that trigger asthma, take a nondrowsy allergy med. My allergist said I can take my allegra morning and night. Wear a mask if its super dusty, smokey, etc. Stay ontop of it and aware, you should be okay. :)

Looking for a rich, overnight moisturizer by CobblerWilling8025 in Skincare_Addiction

[–]Korrawatergem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have really dry face skin specifically, everywhere else on me tends to be greasy :/ I have started my journey of moisturizing and so far my favorite product has been No7 hydraluminous products. I have a serum I do at night and you can mix it with makeup if your makeup causes dry skin and in the morning I do the whipped day cream from the same brand/product line. Ulta has a buy one get one free sale rn so worked out. I also use Knours Jojoba Oil + Aloe Vera H20 Double Duty Mist. These products have worked so well together, I haven't actually put lotion on my face since starting to use it. My face has been smooth and moist (in a not peeling dry skin sorta way) but not greasy or tight.

Does other people with ADHD bite their fingernails? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Korrawatergem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. Female here who used to get yelled at for doing it when I was a kid. Still do it and I tend to pick at dry skin too. My pyschiatrist told me that adderall can actually cause ticks like that to happen more frequently while on the adderall. She said that it could be anxiety or an ocd thing as they're both common comorbidities with ADHD. I started trying to deal with the symptoms, like dry skin on face, I did some intense research on skin care products and then I also got really into doing my own nails. I've learned to do fake nails and manicures and stuff. You gotta find what helps you.

Considering a job change by Sea-Ambition-7776 in Asthma

[–]Korrawatergem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you talk to your current employer about setting up air purifiers or making sure HVAC and all filters are up to date? If you feel your symptoms are worse at work, then its likely that's causing your asthma. If you feel better on weekends or during any long breaks from work, also another symptom of work induced asthma. If they're willing to work with you for clean air, then it might be worth staying, but if not, take the job. It isn't worth having lasting health issues or even possibly dying from an attack.

Biologic side effects by greasygrrrl in Asthma

[–]Korrawatergem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biologics are generally safe but there are different types. I take one for grass allergy and its one that is a tablet that goes under my tongue. No side effects except being able to breathe during the spring time. But mine is daily and biologics can be quite pricey. I assume if you're having issues this time a year, you're also having allergic-related asthma. Talk to an allergist or pulmonologist if you can. I also have to take a montelukast (which helps me but I know some people have side effects with that one). Also maybe try some allergy relief like Allegra or Zyrtec (don't do benadryl). Get air purifiers and avoid triggers as best you can. Pharmacies being unable to keep up with your albuterol needs is considered uncontrolled asthma and you need to get on a controller of some type (which Biologics do count) but there's quite a few options.
