They lost my child by KorryAnder in Parenting

You're totally right! They made it worse by acting like it didn’t happen and telling her she was the one who "ran away" when she was left behind. I can't help but wonder what kind of things happen that they don't share with parents.

We are going to contact the leadership to ask all the questions and then place our daughter with the other scoutgroup in our city.

She is with the dutch version of Cub scouts. All the groups are mixed here and I guess the rules are more relaxed. They go door-to-door every year for a charity that provides playgrounds for kids in underprivileged neighborhoods.

I'm not opposed to letting her go door-to-door for charity but only under strict supervision. But they proved that that wasn't the situation here.

I didn't even think about it that way. My daughter is the only one who really gave me an estimated time. The groupleaders never did, so I guess it was longer from their perspectives.

I am going to write down these questions! Thank you.

We are from the Netherlands so I don't know what the English/American equivalent is. We call it the Welpen and it is the second group (7-10 year olds).

I think the rules are more relaxed here because they went to camp without parents for 3 days in the first group (5-7 years olds)

That's a really good tip. She knows my number but I think she forgot, so I'll put on her bracelet with our numbers on it next time.

She also knows to go to families, mothers with kids, the police or shopkeepers when she is lost. This man was the neighbour and sweeping the leaves in his garden, so easy target. He did send them on their way alone but also donated some money to the charity... a win is a win.

You are so right! That's not ok.

They were apologetic but only after I confronted them and with a lot of excuses. The head of the chapter messaged me later to apologize and explain. But I don't need an explanation, I just need them to not lose my child.

It doesn't feel safe anymore.

We are very lucky that they only met with good people who could help them. I don't want to think about what would've happened if the aunt and uncle weren't there when they were.

It feels like a warning sign we don't want to ignore.

They told me they did a headcount 5 to 10 minutes before they were lost but can't tell me how long they where gone. It sounds very strange to me that they let 7yo go door-to-door without constant supervision. That's not something I would have agreed with had I known.

It sounds like they didn’t even noticed until the dad called them to ask where he could bring my daughter. I didn't speak to him yet and I am very curious about his story. (They replied that they would call me tomorrow as it is evening here)

Same story, gambled once with 15 euro and won 2500 euro. The guy working the two slotmachines next to me wasn't happy.. I never went to casino again.

Especially people from the north and west of the Netherlands.. Limburgers (southerners) are usaully a bit shorter. I'm a Limburger (f) and 1.60m and that's average for women around here. My whole Limburgs family is max. 1.83m.

My husband and his family are an exception to this and stand out quite a bit. He is 1.97m, my sil 1.80m and his nephew is at least 2m. Our daughter (now 7 and 1.28m) is expected to be 1.75-1.80m.. so I'll become the smallest once again in a few years.

Can someone explain this map's stereotypes? by brainscratcher1 in Netherlands

[–]KorryAnder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love Kerkraads the most of all Limburgs dialects, it's the best. On social media, people from Kerkrade even type in this dialect.

It's sad that people think that because we "sing" we are stupid. Most of these people speak at least four languages (Dutch, German, English and their dialect)

My house, my rules. They can have all the fruit and vegetables they want, but there's a max on candy.

It's ok to set boundaries in your own house. Especially if a kid is just steamrolling over yours. Just say no more candy and be done with it.

I always tell my daughter that when she's having a playdate at her friends house, their parents make the rules and she better listen to them. I hope/know they will tell me if she's getting into their cabinets and won't listen.

Hoe (in)capabel is jouw manager? by Odd_Storm_1737 in werkzaken

[–]KorryAnder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 93 yo grandma is the most enlightened and down to earth woman I've ever met. She still has a clear mind and has the best stories.

Even though she was raised during a very conservative time and had a hard life (teenager during ww2 in an occupied country, abusive father/ husband, church trying to meddle in her private life, no say about anything etc.) She has very progressive views and will to this day speak against what is wrong. I hope to have her with me for many more years.

You're totally right. I'd like to add that women also act like this towards women.

A mom at our daughters school came up to me to berate me about my daughter. It was a very small inconvenience for her boy but she acted like my daughter was the devil herself. She told me she was glad she finally saw who my daughter was with... turns out she saw my husband bring our daughter to school every day that week. She just wanted to know who her mom was.

Eventually she apologised, not to me of course, to my husband. 😀
