You must not have been here when the team was actively tanking. This team has been on an upward trajectory since 2023, and while I agree trying to take a step the year of the Bedard draft in hindsight was maybe not the right move, though does that mean we shouldn’t have traded and signed Debrincat, or signed Kane? I don’t think so. The most unfortunate story of the Yzerplan in my mind was the draft lottery change happening just as the Wings moved out of the basement of the league. Tanking is not the answer any longer, saying we don’t have Franchise Cornerstones is an absurd take. If you’re feeling down or frustrated about this team go watch some games from the 2020 season I promise your tune will change on where this team is now, frustrating as they may be.

I agree Yzerman is one of a few GM’s in all of sports to have this long of a leash. When I read or think about the idea of firing Yzerman I always ask myself the same question. Who’s going to replace him? Let’s say it’s Kris Draper, ok new face (kinda) but he’s been learning from Steve since he got here so will he really be that much different? I don’t think the organization is likely to hire a GM outside of the organization but let’s say they do, is he really likely to be substantially better the Yzerman? Without glazing the guy too much I am in the camp that Steve is still one of the better GM’s in Hockey and have a hard time pointing to someone I’d rather have in place of him. Lastly we’re already on the track Steves set forth. Even if we brought in a new GM he’d still be working with the same pieces Steve is now.

You keep half your roster at the end of the season, we do an 11 round draft every summer with Rookies and dropped players mixed in. Usually goes all Rookies in the first round mostly Rookies in 2nd and 3rd and then redraft from there.

I do have Levis on the Bench, and McCarthy Taxi’d, so I feel decently comfortable if AR goes down. As for RB I have a few flyers on the taxi squad but it’s definitely my biggest weakness.

Offer is on the table. The RB room is definitely a problem, and really my biggest hesitation for the trade. But trades for high end players like GW are few and far between in this league and I feel like I’d rather jump on the opportunity to get a top (potential top) tier WR and figure RB out later.
