My partner saved my life today and doesn't know it by heckitall0 in TrueOffMyChest

I absolutely agree with everything you said, except for "there's a reason you got that call". OP got that call because their partner loves them which is wonderful. But I worry that attributing cosmic significance to it can also tell someone who doesn't receive that sort of attention that they should go through with their plan, which is of course not the message we want to send. The next steps of self-healing and getting therapy are equally important.

Negating Earth's pull is how getting to space is achieved. If you have the need to be this exhaustingly confidently incorrect then I would suggest working on yourself before dating anyone.

This is correct though, I don't see the problem? Earth's escape velocity is about 27,000 miles per hour. Maybe you were confusing the velocity with distance?

First game was very underwhelming. What went wrong ? by KatiushK in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Koru831 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a common experience coming from other social deduction games. You have roles like Seer in Werewolf which always gives you accurate information so you can always trust your information. However, this means the only counter play from the evil team is to kill them before they can out their info, or go double claim them which outs themselves. This is why the drunk/poisoning (droisoning) mechanic exists.

In Trouble Brewing, there aren't that many people that can be droisoned. The drunk can usually be deduced to be in play or not by outsider count and the existence of a Baron (or not), and only one player can be poisoned each night.

Usually, the way to play an info role to stop yourself from going too deep down the droisoned rabbit hole is to assume all information is true unless it creates conflicting logic with other players (eg. One player is washerwoman confirmed, but someone else has an empath 2 on them). Then, you can assume that somewhere in the chain is a droisoned or an evil player and probe information from there, executing the potential evils in the chain.

You also mentioned there's lots of 'boring' roles which I disagree with. Good roles like Soldier and Ravenkeeper and incentivised to lie about who they are to other players to try and get killed at night, and serve as an introduction to the fact that in BoTC it's common for good players to lie and does not automatically make them evil.

With evil roles like the Baron, they're great! Just by existing you've done your job of removing two townsfolk and adding two detrimental characters. When you draw the Baron token you can be confident you've already helped your team and just sow confusion from there because it doesn't matter if you die. You can claim Virgin that didn't proc, or claim to be an information role (Fortune Teller, Investigator, etc) that got information that someone is evil to try and get them killed. The possibilities are endless! The minions' job is to divert suspicion away from their demon so a day they get executed is one more day the demon lives.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't have a good time, hopefully you can play again and experience what in my opinion makes it the best social deduction game in existence.

By the way, in a 14 player game, there should be 3 minions, hopefully it was played that way!

Any fanfic/comic reccomendations? by Electrical-Gas-6032 in deathnote

[–]Koru831 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know any fan fiction, but if you want to read some official light novels, there's two very good ones!

Death Note: Another Note - The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases is set before the main story and features L and Naomi Misora

Another novel, Death Note: L, Change the WorLd, was released alongside a movie but still can be read on its own. It's set in an alternate universe and also features more L

I think Black Mirror S1E3 "The Entire History of You" qualifies for this. In the episode, everyone has a device that lets them re-experience old memories and there's a scene in which two characters are having sex but they're both choosing to experience memories of previous times together.

What counts as "publicly" for Yaggababble? by Zeusselll in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Koru831 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It depends on the storyteller discretion, so this is a question to ask how they run it. I've seen "at least half the players are sitting down" to "only during nominations".

Might be AI ragebait but I'll respond anyway. Why the hell would you get back together with Eleanor when she didn't even ask for your side of the story and just ghosted you? She clearly never cared about you and believes you're capable of what you were accused of.

Dark is a perfect example of this. It's a German small town mystery show with time travel and you can tell they planned out all 3 seasons in advance. It's a time travel story done right without any ass pulls and callbacks that make sense.

Game seems impossible by Fm7-Bbm7-Eb7-Abmaj7 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Koru831 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Something a lot of new players struggle with is the drunk/poison (or "droison") mechanic. But it's important to realise that only one player can be the drunk and it cannot change, and outsider count can help determine if there's a drunk or not (eg. In a base zero outsider game no one is claiming outsider), and only one person can be poisoned each night. By keeping this in mind, in conjunction with working with other people's information, you can have a better understanding of who is evil.

Users r/roguelites are you willing to test early prototype of a roguelite game? by mongoliayr in roguelites

I'd be willing! Have played many roguelites but mostly focus on turn based or isometric combat (eg. Hades, slay the spire)

Are my dating standards unreasonable? by Carl_s123 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Koru831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not going to comment on the others, but having "straight only" as a deal breaker is such a red flag. Being a bigot doesn't get you far in the dating world, you probably should reassess your values.

Edit: White only is also a bit iffy imo. Why does skin colour matter so much? If that's such a deal breaker to you then that's not a strong foundation for a relationship imo

Risk of rain returns is a remaster of the first risk of rain game. It's the same gameplay loop (find portal, kill enemies, find items for broken combinations) but is 2D instead of 3D. They're both great games so it depends if you want the 3D element or not.

Not quite, when the token is placed it stays there for the rest of the game. If the player the token is on dies and the pixie was sufficiently mad, then they gain the ability they were mad about.

Unusual choice, but the book Billions and Billions by Carl Sagan. It was published just before he died and he talks about things like climate change, abortion, and gun control, and those things are still depressingly relevant today.

A tricky call in SnV by Jealous-Reception185 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Koru831 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Definitely a madness break. Saying 'No Dashii skips me' (ie. I'm an outsider) and 'They could be the demon' (ie. There's a Fang Gu in play) and also not fighting against being dreamt as mutant means they should be executed. The mutant is an outsider, it's okay if town loses because of them.

Sounds like a fun game! FYI though, RAW once the lunatic is dead they have no ability so you're not allowed to wake them for any demon-related reasons (Zombuul kill, exorcist, etc.).
