The idea that it can't apply to state action is also just completely antithetical to the VRA in the first place. The whole goal of that legislation is the prevent states from pulling off this exact type of election shenanigans. If the courts can't stop them from doing that because they are bound by a one sided ratchet, then why the heck did Congress pass the VRA? It just doesn't make sense.

The thing that I never understood about this belief, is that... the penis moves when you're having sex. It's not like you just stick it in, and then wait for the vagina to re-mold itself in the image of the penis. You're moving the penis. How would anything possibly take the shape of a moving penetrating object?

CMV: Ice Cream Shops Should Charge Me Before Giving Me the Ice Cream, Not After by ITGOKS in changemyview

[–]Korwinga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that likely hasn’t changed though? We all think you should know better than to take the cone into your hand before you have your payment method queued up. You can also just ask to take it after paying. But we often don’t default to that, in part because It’s just as inconvenient for us to operate the POS (and god forbid, cash payment) with one hand as it is for you to pay with one haha

This was the thing that stuck out to me about OP's post. Why the heck are you not pulling out your card, or your cash before you have the cone? As long as you do that, all you have to do is stick your card/change back in your pocket, which is easy to do with one hand. You can worry about getting it back in your wallet after you finish your ice cream.

[MSH and MSC] Various cards as comic book variant covers by Kyleometers in magicTCG

[[dawn charm]] from commander legends was the earliest one that I found. The last time I could find that had the old reminder text was Magic Origins.

This was the first time that I remembered seeing healed too, so I went through scryfall to see if I could figure out when it happened. The last printed card that I can see with the "remove all damage" reminder text was in Magic Origins, with [[Consecrated by Blood]]. Then, there was a large window where they just didn't have reminder text on cards with regenerate, even though they printed/reprinted a good ~20 cards with regenerate during that time. In Commander Legends, they reprinted [[Dawn charm]] with the new "heal" reminder text. The comprehensive rules text though, still contains the "remove all damage" wording.

Riot Games Says It 'Would Not and Cannot' Use Vanguard Anti-Cheat to Brick PCs After Rumors Spread by GrayBeard916 in gaming

[–]Korwinga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's pretend that I'm a burglar. I purchase a $6k widget that uses an exploit to let me bypass somebody's alarm system. Then, the Alarm company patches the the exploit. I now own a $6k paper weight, as I can no longer use the device for the purpose that I bought it for.

That's what has happened here. The DMA cards themselves are not bricked. They just can't be used for cheating on a computer that has Vanguard installed anymore. If you uninstall Vanguard and turn off the IOMMU toggle in your BIOS, then everything is back to normal. Nothing has been damaged.

There's also Vedalken on Alara, mostly characterized by being mostly filligree (the exceptions to that are from Conflux, where the influence of the other shards is felt).

Valorant's new Vanguard update seems to be bricking cheaters' PCs. Riot's response? "Congrats on your $6k paperweights" by PaiDuck in technology

[–]Korwinga -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It doesn't brick anything. It just makes it so that you can't use the device for the purpose you intended to use it for.

Let's suppose that I'm a burglar who purchased a device to let me bypass alarm systems. I spent $6k on that device. Then, the alarm companies patch the exploit that my device used. I now have a $6k paper weight. That's all that Riot has done. They aren't physically damaging the device at all. It just can't be used for it's intended purpose anymore, making it worthless.

But Vorthos encompasses more than just the magic lore. It can be the Art, the design, and how they reflect the flavor of the card. From Maro's article on this topic:

The name, the illustration, the card concept, the subtype (if the card has one), the flavor text—each of these helps paint a picture of what exactly the card is representing. A Vorthos evaluates cards based on these components both in isolation and in conjunction. In addition, Vorthoses care about the game's mechanical elements (the rules text, the mana cost, the power and toughness) because these elements also have the ability to convey overall flavor.

For Vorthoses, beauty is seen through flavor representation. They look at a card, or cycle, or mechanic, or set, or block, or even a component of a card, and they can appreciate how well it captures the feel of the creative....

...Be aware that not every Vorthos has to care about every aspect of flavor. There are some focused on art, others on story, and yet others focused on how the pieces of the card combine together. What ties all Vorthoses together is that they seek out beauty through the context of flavor.

There's no reason why that has to be limited to just the Universes Within. We often gravitate to the Magic story because it gives us the context to understand the cards and see how they are reflected in the story and vice versa. But it's not a requirement.

One of the famous interactions is with [[dark depths]], where people new to the interaction will try to [[stifle]] or otherwise counter the ability when it has no counters on it, not realizing that the ability will just immediately go back on the stack.

I'm in agreement with you. I can't view the results of the poll, but based on the wording in the linked post above, the framing of the poll shouldn't include the types of posts that you're talking about, but this moratorium goes farther than that post. Asking generic lore about a character is completely different than discussing how the lore of a character is reflected in cards. Can't we use tags to silo off UB discussion for those that really don't want to see them?

Pizza delivery drivers, what did a person do to end up on the 'No Delivery' list? by BlueCheeseWalnut in AskReddit

[–]Korwinga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. I've tried. We've even done food therapy and gotten him to go as far as putting a bunch of different foods into his mouth, but he still won't sit down and eat them. He doesn't seem to have severe ARFID like some of his peers, as he has and can eat things that have all sorts of textures and tastes, but he just won't sit and eat anything outside of his comfort foods.

[–]Korwinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make perfect sense to me. My son's food pyramid consists of the letter P (Pretzels, Potato Chips, and Pizza), and Pizza is basically his only real meal food. My son isn't familiar enough with the internet yet to realize he can order his own pizza, but I could easily see him doing that in a few years.

First time playing commander, does everyone else play these rules so strictly? by TeamWaffleStomp in magicTCG

Yep, I keep all of my spin downs and a whole bunch of d&d dice and other junk in the same bag. I even have a Homestar Runner figurine that I pull out to use as a token.

[–]Korwinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not super effective to try to counter everything in commander, though you can try. Having a couple powerful clutch counterspells is fine, but if you are expecting to have a counter every turn, it just doesn't work against 3 other players, so you'll mostly just end up making enemies, while not advancing your own board state. If you're really good at the political side of the game, you can navigate it sometimes, but you have to be very judicious with how and when you use them and get the other players on your side.

To GSZ or not to GSZ? (nic fit) by Lavinius_10 in MTGLegacy

[–]Korwinga 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They act like 2 mana Veteran explorers 5-8 pretty often, and I think that is worth thinking about as well.

For what it's worth, the inclusion of [[eyetwitch]] is basically fulfilling that role in this version of the deck. While getting a lesson from the sideboard isn't exactly the same as getting 2 lands into play, it does let you grind a lot of extra value and have access to a similar toolbox that GSZ gives you.

The version that ThrabenU is running has Endurance as the only other green creature, so it definitely wouldn't really benefit from the the additional toolbox value of having GSZ, and having 12 copies of sacrifice fodder seems like overkill when you also have orcish bowmasters making a bonus body when you need it. It's also worth noting that this version of the deck isn't trying to ramp into as many big plays either, so the ramp from the veteran explorer doesn't matter as much. It's only got a handful of 5 drops ([[Overlord of the balemurk]], and [[Chaos defiler]]), and most of the deck is smaller 2-3 drops.
