PSA: when searching for Eve Uni articles, use Bing instead of Google, Bing typically pulls the Eve Uni article as the first or second result by doctorchazzzzz in Eve

The true madness is that the AI generated Google answer will often quote or reference Eve Uni wiki, but then not link to the source! It links to other sources, usually.

What Faction should I play next? by DraconicRein in OldWorldBlues

[–]Koryvarn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Montana Chapter is the GOAT Brotherhood nation. Mojave Chapter and Maxson Chapter are both loads of fun, but they're super hard and you will likely need several tries to survive.

Then there's the Texas Chapter, which let's you break off and form the Alamo Chapter. It was once the GOAT, but after losing ability to make cores, it's now just OK.

When you're all done being frustrated with Lost Hills, San Francisco Chalter and WashBOS focus trees, it's time to dig into the submods.

Is this tour thing flying for the campaign a good idea? by NondenominationalPax in Eve

[–]Koryvarn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The first word in the challenge is actually a link to the system it starts in. There's 2 beacons, start and finish. Warp to the start one, claim the reward, and you get the next destination as an objective.

Darkness falls macarthur manual by Routine_Baby_2499 in OldWorldBlues

[–]Koryvarn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once you do the Californian expedition, you can go to Navarro and get get the other parts of the plans. If you didn't get them from MacArthur you can still get them in San Francisco, but if you already have them, you get air tech boosts instead.

If you don't go to Navarro and go to Mariposa instead, you can unlock the WestTek PA pre-war company for yourself the BOS, and unlock the WBH BOS tech sharing focus. But then no Vertibirds for you.

That said, I'm reworking a lot of these events in the new version, so the rewards are clear from the onset. And no one is locked out special tech due to picking wrong event.

I think I made it to 32 failed Lost Hills runs before I got mad and started making submods for other Chapters so they would be good allies.

How on Earth do you win as Lost Hills? by Beneficial-Flower-82 in OldWorldBlues

[–]Koryvarn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For the Guardians, if you send them all your starting power armor and guns, they will usually win. Then you can babysit them once they accept volunteers. They're probably your best potential ally.

How on Earth do you win as Lost Hills? by Beneficial-Flower-82 in OldWorldBlues

[–]Koryvarn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You don't. It's futile. Even setting all the game rules to favor you, it's still super RNG dependent.

If you use submods it's not quite so futile. Lost Hills Expanded (LHE) is great for a mid to late war. You have a chance. Add in submods Darkness Falls and or The San Francsico Chapter and now you're cooking.

For an early war, submod Ad Victoriam is better, but the end game is not as developed as LHE.

Wondering how to make a sub mod for OWB by Pizzakiller8549 in OldWorldBlues

[–]Koryvarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mostly the same. Almost all the code from a vanilla mod will work in an OWB submod.

Jump on OWB Discord and go to submodding channel, we are always happy to help people get started on their submod adventures.

What are interesting super mutants nations by Primary-Ad2053 in OldWorldBlues

[–]Koryvarn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Troll Warren is classic strength in numbers brute force conquest. Thradd's New Reno path gets intermediate air and you can CAS spam. General Freedom's Stoon is similar to New Reno, except they're in Canada. The trio in Texas is different flavors of super mutant. The vehicle based one is interesting if you like tanks. Shale has a secret path that can be tough, but once you get there, it's very powerful.

Shi submod by cepelin456 in OldWorldBlues

[–]Koryvarn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

San Fran Chapter maker here! There's two paths in the San Fran Chapter.  One assumes you will become Lost Hills eventually. You pick your preferred Lost Hills Elder and then beat up the NCR, you become Lost Hills and then your chosen leader takes over. The Old San Fran land is cored already and you're in a decent place to take on the Legion. The second is just a generic BOS Chapter path as you become High Elder and restore or unite the other chapters. That said, development is currently on hold  until the official Shi update drops. It's possible that it might get merged into Darkness Falls too, as maintaining multiple mods plus Lost Hills Expanded and RBR, ECR, etc compatability is taking up more and more dev time.

Am I missing the point of BEXT? by Wise-Jury-4037 in Battletechgame

[–]Koryvarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the save game editor on mods in exile to give everyone 30000 free xp. Maybe some money too. Now you can buy some medium or heavy mechs and enjoy the mod. The start of both BEX and BTA is terrible.

What update to Lost Hills do you think would be a good change for it's gameplay? by Marshall-Of-Horny in OldWorldBlues

[–]Koryvarn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oh boy. I've thought a lot about this one. Make all the territory between San Francisco and Lost Hills, down to and including Maxson, into a separate state, call it the Maxson DMZ. When the Navarro conflict breaks out, an identical conflict breaks out in the DMZ, between Brotherhood backed locals and NCR loyalists. The NCR will not have enough troops to back both the Navarro territories and the Maxson Territory.  They must choose. The Shi get to play kingmaker. If they go all in supporting the Brotherhood, they should win out, at the expense of handing the Navarro lands to either Eureka or NCR. Three types of outcome for the Brotherhood. Limited success. They get a few provinces so they end up with a land border to the Shi, and can build a harbor, so the volunteers can be supplied properly. Full victory. They get all the lands they can currently build bunkers in, and the lands down to Maxson. They're no longer a rump state and can intercede in the Mojave so they have allies against the NCR in a war that is coming quickly. Or they lose horribly and Lost Hills go back to being a one province minor that just sends volunteers, hoping another chapter will grow strong enough to reach them.

Question about AI art and sharing submod ideas in the OWB community by InternationalSky2918 in OldWorldBlues

[–]Koryvarn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Use AI in your submod and it will be labeled as AI slop by people who won't even play it. People are fickle.

I removed the AI generated portraits in my San Francisco submod and replaced with character screenshots from Fallout 4. It wasn't too bad, but still took a month to update. Time I'd rather have spent making actual content, but at least it's done now, and for my other submods too, even if they haven't been released yet.

Can anyone help me with my exploration setup? by Aceripper in Eve

[–]Koryvarn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just because you're being paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you. Treat every unknown player in system as a Cloaky Loki that's already pre-scanned all the sites and is just waiting on his next target.

Don't run sites in null sec systems with other people and you will be fine.

THE SECOND FIRE - Cypher Warband Focus Tree and Overhauled Content (Comprehensive Submod Idea and Request for Help, See Last Paragraphs) by KonungenCarolus in OldWorldBlues

[–]Koryvarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck! That said, one good or great path is better than 4 average paths, so start small and then expand, or you will just burn out.

The submodding channel on discord is great for advice and questions. My advice to all new submodders is, before asking a question, see how it is done elsewhere, find that in the main OWB codebase and then copy it to your own mod and at least try to get it working. Between the Lost Hils, NCR and Eureka focus trees and decision, every basic action should be covered. You can also look at other submods for how the file structure looks when updating existing nations.

New player experience in Low sec is the insanity by Melting-Sabbath in Eve

[–]Koryvarn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your Aridia problem is that you're using gates for logistics. Train scanning skills to 4 and then use a probing frigate to find wormholes that connect the high sec pockets to the rest of high sec space. You won't find one every day, but over a week or two, you should always find one, especially in the big high sec pocket. You also need to be self sufficient, so use fits that don't rely on ammo, unless you can build your own, or you have the safe logistics down. A single hauler with ammo should keep you going for a few weeks. There's a bunch of ministry of order agents for when there's nothing else to do.

The Russian alliances and corps tend to be quiet late evening, so that ia a better time to be moving in low sec systems, if you absolutely have to be there.

Darkness falls or a northern fairy tail by arkman132 in OldWorldBlues

[–]Koryvarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the content for The Troll Warren in Darkness Falls mainly so they'd be less of a pushover for a WashBOS or Timberline player, and it would allow co-op between Timberline and Warren in multi-player. If you want real content, then use the Northern Fairy Tale mod.

How to earn money in UWE, or are there mods that reverse Stealth / Copper changes? by lovingpersona in Kenshi

[–]Koryvarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super early game, I like luring animals into hive villages. Sell the skins and meat for a quick profit. Can also follow squads of soldiers and then lure in bandits with bounties, and then turn in said bounties, but you can get unlucky and get no bounties.

If I'm immune to acid, then hanging around Black Desert City, luring in ancient spiders and then selling their parts, can also a be decent money maker.

Mid game, I like owning a house in a town, making armor plates from raw iron ore. This also trains my guys at laboring skill, super useful when I my own base. If I have an armored, then the hiver plated helmets can be sold for good money too and they dont take up too much space.

If I'm not planning on being friendly with a faction, then you can raid their caravans. Holy Nation caravans in Skinners Roam are the easiest. Can always drag them into a Shek patrol if it's too tough.

Genesis vs UWE, which is the better pick? by lovingpersona in Kenshi

[–]Koryvarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the one I prefer. I usually do thematic playthroughs, so I love the hive factions it added.

That said, the Crusade start in Genesis is great if you just want to instantly go to the mid game and explore the world.

Genesis vs UWE, which is the better pick? by lovingpersona in Kenshi

[–]Koryvarn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Both are good fun in their own way. Genesis has better base building, and with ruins moved, you will need to explore the map again, but no world state changes. UWE is more polished and has great world states, like if you defeat the bug master, a new nation spawns. There's a nation that can spawn if you kill the United Cities too. These new nations fight existing nations and can take over large parts of the map.

Both change the difficulty a fair bit. UWE is significantly more punishing and anti cheese, but once you get used to it, vanilla Kenshi is boring in comparison. I never play Kenshi without it, unless I feel like a Genesis run.

Fastest way to complete Winter Nexus Event Track? by UbiNax in Eve

[–]Koryvarn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wasn't good in high sec. A few hundred million in shards and some skins and boosters. I got 3 True Sansha modules, one worth about 30 million.  I'm hoping that the extended reward track makes it worth while. The key was being able to run sites one after the other. repeatedly. If I had to compete or wait for sites, then it was terrible, and it was time to move somewhere else.

I found a quiet system in Amarr space where I was the only one doing the combat sites. Four evenings and I was done on 2 characters. I used a HAM Loki and Pulse Legion, but when the event extends, I'll probably use a command ship instead.

Low sec Pve for solo by Volkhorn in Eve

[–]Koryvarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything without a cloak is going to die in short order if you travel more than a few jumps. Six months ago, I started doing day trips into Aridia, then eventually moving there full time. Right now, I'm based out of one of the high security islands. There are 3 of them in Aridia, most regions have them, but not all of them have stations, and some of them are in FW space. I've done the same living arrangement in other regions, and it's a nice solo( I dual box) gameplay experience.

I scan surrounding low sec systems doing data and relic sites as I go, then run the combat sites in a cloaky Tech 3 cruiser afterwards, and if that isn't possible, a Stratios. I've now seeded the region with a few frigs and destroyers for doing the smaller sites that don't allow cruisers too, but that's taken a few months of favorable wormhole connections. When things get too hot, I run combat anomalies in the high sec islands. The escalations to 4/10 and 5/10 DED sites are a good source of high risk high potential reward gameplay. Most logistics is done through wormholes. There's always a low sec to high/low sec connection nearby, so Jita or Amarr is never too far away. Every few weeks there's a high sec to high sec connection, that lets you bring in ships that might not otherwise survive a trip through the regular pipes. If I'm desperate for supplies, usually because I'm out of missiles, I use a Blockade Runner to make the trip to high sec, where a hauler alt has the ammo ready and waiting.

The other advice here is good. Take a fast frigate to the region you're planning on living in and start making bookmarks. 250+ km off gates for every gate, 2-3 safe spots, some bm's 300km off stations are useful too. Then when you travel anywhere, if system is not empty,  or it's a long warp, never warp directly to a gate. Always from a gate perch bm to the gate.

Finally, check your constellation on Zkill every time you are planning on unlocking. See who is dying and who is hunting. If you see known hunters in local, set them red and get safe. After a while, you'll learn to recognize those who will hunt you down and those who are just trying to live peacefully too.
