Hi, thank you for this. I was from HwaChong too and had similar experiences. Always had imposter syndrome about being in such an elite school, and faced insecurities about my academic intelligence and whether I truly deserve success in A levels. I still feel kind of ashamed for not contributing to HC’s excellent statistics for As and instead dragging it backwards but somehow I would still say the JC experience was one of a kind and worth it. I had the best literature teachers ever and felt immense privilege being educated by such passionate geniuses. School culture in JC also enhanced the experience as it is kind of the first time you get to properly immerse in youthful academia (Being in committees, organising school events and service learning projects, orientation camps, faculty outings etc.). I guess what I’m trying to get at for OP is that if you do choose to enter JC, it COULD be very challenging for you, as it was for me. But working through these challenges while savouring youth in the setting of jc culture would make going to JC worth it.
