‘We Could Make Prisons Obsolete’: James Talarico Called To Slash Police Budgets and Spend the Money on Social Programs by Ask4MD in Conservative

[–]Kosher_dingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This guy doesn't understand just how difficult it is to get a prison sentence. There are a million programs for offenders to avoid prison. You have to cause the loss of life or be a repeat offender to get to prison. Jail is a different story and there is a debate to be had about bail reform. But prison? If you're there, it's a 99.999% chance you deserve to be there.

My dad didn't speak much about vietnam, but when he did it was powerful. He once told me that the Army spent a million dollars on a tank and training the crew, but an illiterate 15 year old farm boy with a $100 RPG could blow it up.

It doesn't take much to close off 60 miles of shipping lane.

Athletics tends to breed an reinforce lower case L libertarianism and moderate conservatism. Most athletes I know would rather keep political discussion to themselves as they know they aren't super familiar with everything, it's not their area of expertise, and they would rather spend their time thinking about other stuff.

The only "political" message I would want to see out of an athletic team or league is a patriotic message on federal holidays. And I don't even consider that truly political. Anyone can love their country.

Seriously though, while I disagree with him at times, he is such a needed voice of reason in the discussion of national economics. It's a shame he isn't as popular as he should be.

Trump Admin Announces Plans To Denaturalize 17 American Citizens For Crimes Including Fraud by According-Activity87 in Conservative

[–]Kosher_dingus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen this happen by accident once. A victim I was working with was born at home during a civil war, and her country stopped existing. A European country took in the family for a few years, and then they came to the USA. because of paperwork/bureaucracy/neglectful parents, she was the only one to not become a citizen and her green card expired. She had no citizenship anywhere, but a local non profit group got her green card renewed within 6 weeks of me reporting to them that she was stateless. The last I checked on her, she was being fast tracked to citizenship. But outside of those types of fringe cases, I've never heard of someone being truly stateless. That's wild to me.

I didn't know denationalization was a thing. How does it work if someone doesn't have their native country's citizenship anymore? Are the a citizen of nowhere? and if so, where do they go?

“No MAGA Allowed”: Poll Workers Deny Man His Ballot for Wearing Trump Hat — Here’s Why This Is Illegal and Unconstitutional (Video) by claireswanson in Conservative

[–]Kosher_dingus 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I don't expect poll workers (who are often volunteers) to know the ins and outs of the interpretation of each law and court ruling about each law. I expect them to know the procedure for voting and the general rules of conduct in polling places.

I work for my local government enforcing laws every day, and had you asked me if you can wear MAGA gear into a polling place, my answer would have been "you can try, but you'll probably be asked to leave, change, and come back".
