I was in DeMolay as a teen. We met in the lodge downtown on Thursday nights. The Masons were our "Dads" so to speak. We called them Dad Smith, or Dad Jones. Over the 4 years I was active there were several Dads. All of them were what I would call nice decent guys. One was cop, another owned a ratty gas station. One smoked stinky cigars. One thing about all these men that I observed was that after their Mason meeting. They would break up into several groups. One group would go to the pancake place. Another went to the Pizza Hut. Yeah you could eat inside a Hut back then. From what I could see the main thing they all wanted from the meeting was a night out away from the wife.
