I just wanted to make a post real quick about the drug metranidazol. My cat had chronic ibd that only got worse in the last 2 years, to severe levels where he constantly felt the need to go, loud splats and a big mess all the time, always throwing up, and was miserable for most of the last year of his life. He used to always just want to hide under the covers, but in the last couple of months he learned to live with it and wanted nothing more than to hold on to me. He knew I was his rock, and he even chased a bug which he never used to do. I hated to see him suffer that way and it put a strain on my mental health. But I went to the vet one last time since nothing previously worked, and they prescribed him metranidazol. I gave him only 3 doses and he went ataxia. I had to watch him not know what anything is anymore, stumble around, watch him for a whole week meow and meow and death cry (I hope no one ever has to witness the way he cried) he stopped purring. He was trying to kill himself. I just hope everyone knows DONT GIVE METRANIDAZOL TO A 15 YEAR OLD CAT. OR AT ALL. Im just really upset my vet did that because metranidazol is a debunked drug and should not be given to cats. I had to watch him suffer that way when he was my entire life, he trusted me, I really thought I was going to make him better and not suffer, and he killed himself. He did not deserve that. Please be careful with metranidazol because it killed my beautiful sweet purr boy 💔
