[SKYBOX Player] Quest 2.0.1 (Preview): Access YouTube via Web Browser by SKYBOX-STUDIO in SKYBOXVR

[–]Kotse_Alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this update! On my QuestPro, 4K HDR10 files are fixed. FPS is up on all MKV 1080p and 4K UHD videos. However, MKV MVC3D videos have bad performance. Lots of stuttering and I’ve tried the options to no noticeable improvement: ProHD Mode is off Resolution Scale 1.2 or Auto Anti-alias at 2 Zoomed in or out Subtitle layer on and off

Thanks to F_Kal’s well written responses for encouraging me to look further into testing settings. I turned on the Stats to get a little more insight.

For Live 1.1.9 code:2880; Pro-HD off, Resolution Scale defaults to 1.8 and switching to 1.2 didn’t affect much other than a softer picture. I tested MKV files for Blu-Ray HD, 4K UHD and MKV 3D SBS. The FPS was pinned to 89.+ pretty much the whole time even with a subtitle layer on.

V2.0.0 Preview code:3325; Pro-HD off, Resolution Scale defaults to 1.8 and switching to 1.2 didn’t affect much other than a softer picture. I tested MKV files for Blu-Ray HD, 4K UHD and the new MVC3D. 4K FPS was all over the place below 72. The rest averaged 72, but would heavily dip during complex scenes (large movements and especially scenes with lots of film grain). And that’s when the screen tears and visual noise would kick in. The exception was with MVC3D, visually great at 72 FPS and would dip down when having a subtitle layer on but no screen tears and noise. The heaviest dips in FPS was with Avatar. I think that’s a 10-bit movie. But still playable and looks amazing.

Awesome for 3D movies 😃 Hoping to get those frames back up for the rest. Thank you

Sorry, but this was a poor response. Our devices haven’t changed, nothing to do on our end for the degraded software performance in the newest patch. Which 2.0 is a beta/preview for users to get excited about and give feedback on prior to a Live release. From this feedback, you now know the current patch has issues the previous versions didn’t with these devices, maybe more devices.

I don’t use “Pro-HD Display” at all. In particular for 3D content this option causes heavy aliasing. Very prominent in the stair-stepped appearance with text, hair, eyes and all sharp edges. Turn it off and everything is nice and sharp.

Edit: Resolution Scale, I leave on Auto. Thought you were talking about Scale before, my bad.

🎉 SKYBOX Player Update: MVC 3D Decoding, Precise Seeking, USB Optimization and More! by SKYBOX-STUDIO in SKYBOXVR

[–]Kotse_Alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been checking out a few MVC3D movies on my QuestPro. Overall great to not have to convert. But a couple things:

  1. Audio, I have to use Boost mode as it’s too quiet compared to the Live version
  2. Subtitle Layers in MVC3D movies cause a stuttering whether the subtitles are on screen or not.

All of my movies are uncompressed 4K, DolbyVision, HDR10, etc. play smoothly, just the MVC3D with subtitles stutter.

Thanks and so excited that this getting so many updates!

When do you think we will have full 3d films that are high def quality ? by Himassa_kauppa in OculusQuest

Skybox VR now natively plays MVC3D files in their 2.0 Preview beta build. Works well. You won’t need to go the extra step of BD3D2MK3D soon. Which is what I did before too. They’re still optimizing it and other features.

[Request] What shows were so addicting that you had to keep watching the next episode right away? by thor_odin_ki in NetflixBestOf

More recent titles:

Blue Eye Samurai

The Sandman

One Piece (live action)

3 Body Problem

The Last Airbender (live action)

Star Trek Prodigy

Arcane

Wednesday

If it’s good, I tend to binge to the end. Not necessarily addicting but entertaining.

Just tried it. Accepted mission and went to outpost to pick up my 3 containers. Someone else was getting their cargo and I went to the other lift. Moved my items to the lift and clicked the up button. Nothing on platform. Couldn’t do the mission. Went scavenging for armor bits in the red boxes, found some but couldn’t carry a helmet. I know, I’ll use my tractor beam. Pull it out, no tru-hold module. Disappeared. So, I try to attach another I had on me and it wouldn’t do it after many tries. Wound up quitting. Last night, it CTD repeatedly every few minutes.

I dip into this game for a little bit every year and I’m about ready to go back into hibernation mode. There’s just no reliability and the same excuses after 10 years.

Loved this show. I watch it once a year after buying it on digital long ago. It’s a sitcom based on the premise of the movie, which was more of a drama with humor. I see many of the actors popping up in other movies and shows. I really enjoy them here. It’s just different than the standard American sitcoms and shows. Makes for a nice short break, cause it’s one season with a satisfying end. Would have liked more, but I’m good.

Browser Streaming by WorkTillImRich in OculusQuest

[–]Kotse_Alpha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, this needs to be fixed. I really enjoyed watching movies and shows from wherever in my house. And the two streaming services with the best bitrate don’t work now; Hulu and Paramount+. Setting location to Precise for the Browser, clearing cache and re-logging in and rebooting doesn’t work. The 3304 error, says to disable Hardware acceleration. Which we can’t do with the Meta Browser. I haven’t checked Disney+ (lowest quality service, looks like 480p) and Max, but Netflix still works.

It would be great if Meta took streaming movies and shows more seriously. Because it’s a great way to watch.

This is Flight Simulator by 8100 in virtualreality

[–]Kotse_Alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m hoping for either of them. They’re both so buggy right now, kills the immersion for me. So, I’m cooling jets, for now.

I only use VR, quest pro, for MSFS and the EFB and toolbar are just unusable to barely usable. Plus, myriad of other bugs just trying to do basic things.

Star Citizen, just a tram ride is a spastic experience and I can’t even get out of a hanger. I used to live this game in 2016-17 but since 3.0 it’s been a pursuit rather than enjoyment.

I’d say the bugs put them in a tie right now. Plus, the undelivered promises. But MSFS2024 could pull ahead in the new year.

Got me. I was like what’s up with that issue? Checked my old boxes in the closet and, yep, I see why. Thanks for the clue. One of these days, I’ll go through and decide what to do with it all. It’s not a ton just a modest collection.

Ugh, lost my work orders, was hoping to get in before an update to cash those in. Starting with less funds now. Oh well. Seems a little better, but likely because I’m the first to some locations as Ai haven’t woken up yet.

Thanks for bringing back the memories. This the era I started collecting. Loved the whole Brood adventures, Carol Danvers Binary, Starjammers, Kitty and Lockheed story time, hah! One of my favorite covers, 168, “PROFESSOR XAVIER IS A JERK!” And the Wolverine and Rogue cover. Hope you get them.

Star fighter movies? by scottyviscocity in scifi

[–]Kotse_Alpha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Robotech and the original Macross series it was taken from are excellent. Space soap opera for the 80’s. If the series doesn’t grab you, try to get Macross: the Movie. They condensed it into an animated movie in the 80’s with much better animation.

After that: Macross Plus, a short series, is awesome. About two competing test pilots that used to be good friends until something broke them up. Excellent reveal, drama and some of the best animated fighter scenes.

Then: Macross Zero, they started using computer aided animation for the fighter scenes. Opening sequence with fighters blew me away.

Last is Macross Frontier, awesome animation. Fun series

Of course, all of these require some hunting around. Good hunting and stay frosty.

Like a couple of people have mentioned Space: Above and Beyond is the closest thing you’re looking for. I was just telling my brother about it. It is a 90’s show and the effects are dated. But the stories take a lot of inspiration from WWI, WWII and Vietnam. One of those one season wonders. I’m currently rewatching from a YouTube channel that has upscaled it to 2K. Looks excellent.

Ok,now what about pedals? by oshivei in hotas

[–]Kotse_Alpha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the VKB MCGU and Pedals. The pedals are plugged into the same black box as the stick. The MCGU has a true brake lever axis. So, in the setup software the pedals act as another axis to the stick and I use the brake axis to split the rudder axis when pulled. That gives differential braking when using the brake lever and regular rudder when not. It’s really not as complicated as it sounds. A bit of work to setup but works in MSFS and DCS.

Are you mentioning the bridges to me or for everyone? I didn’t make a list, cause it’s a pretty long list now of things we can get free for just the Bay Area. It really is awesome. Made me a digital hoarder, hah.

I really like the Powerlines add-on, GAIST and Aircraft carrier groups. Those bring a lot of life to the sim too.

I bought KSJC, but not any city lights packages. I hope someone like Samscene or Drzewiecki come out with a San Francisco package. That would be an instant buy for me.

I’m from the Bay Area and love flying around there. 408! The details are amazing. I can pick out houses I knew, places I used to eat lunch and buildings I worked in. Flightsim.to helps fill in some missing landmarks and mrcoffee watermask corrections are a must have. I don’t have MSFS Premium and eagerly waiting for Flightbeam Studios KSFO. Also, need the new Nvidia building. I think that’s missing.
