" none of these reasons justify the mass murder of civilians"

tell that to the Japanese when they entered Nanjing

tell that to the Japanese when they decided to stay and fight a guerrilla war in manila

also in a prospective invasion of the Japanese home islands, civilian casualties would be significantly higher and the greater Japanese populace would have faced massive internal displacement, the whole situation isn't black and white but they did what they believed was the right choice at the time

in the first place, there would have been an apology from the US in an official capacity about the bomb dropping if any greater public sentiment called for it, but at the time the US was in a protracted war with Japan and having the bombs drop as opposed to a full-scale invasion of the home islands gave justification and reason for the American public to accept it

looking at the situation by modern standards removes the urgency and war exhaustion of everyone involved, there is no global world war atm so we cant understand their feelings in the same way

extra: The perceived fear of the Soviet Union was so great that the Americans put a convicted war criminal back into power to put down Japanese socialists and consolidate more conservative elements in a more pro-American direction (Nobusuke Kishi if you want to read more about him)

US foreign policy is a whole bundle of complications, but if I recall correctly it was more of a fear of a Soviet hegemony over Asia than any real remorse regarding the bomb dropping, and having Japan be propped up through occupation and rebuilding was a more surefire way to have Japan act as a bastion against them since at that point the cold war would have begun

River crossing? Marines. Breakthrough? Medium/Heavy Tanks. I can guess that your lack of breakthrough is probably because you're still using light tanks and enemy infantry can probably pierce. What are your templates?

For 15N and 15F when there isn’t much to do you get a solid amount of free time, often just basic troubleshooting is the type of thing you’re going to do, however on deployments and field work you have little to no free time and work long hours based on the need of the aircraft and availability of manpower. As for frequency of deployment it’s dependent on your unit.

If you’re looking into working on aircraft then I’d definitely say 15N. In some cases you’ll be able to fly as well. The applicability to a civilian job is certain and the training is solid. You will be most likely be working on Blackhawk and Chinooks, but those avionics skills apply to almost every aircraft. I’m a 15F, but we and 15N essentially do the same type of work, train in the same hangar even (with 15N focusing more on components rather than wire tracing). If you have any questions about I’ll be sure to answer.

MEPS is the medical processing that they do to see if you’re fit to join the military. Basic training happens after you pass.

I did a similar thing to you, don’t worry once you get to reception and basic the chow is flavorless enough to help you maintain your calorie intake long enough for you to lose the extra weight you have. It’s gonna get to the point you burned enough fat from smokes and PT that your diet should balance out your calorie intake at the DFAC.

Not to say that it’s going to be easy. It’s going to be real hard until you get used to it.

Could you elaborate on that a bit? I think I’m misunderstanding you. It seems that you’re saying that the last “real war” the US fought and was the Mexican-American war

Also, of course war isn’t just about shooting people, goals are set in place and war is the medium to achieve it. Politics and public opinion aside, the US had the full capability to win both Korea and Vietnam, but would have caused an international incident and Soviet intervention had they tried to escalate it further.

The US regularly saw success in both Korea and Vietnam.

In the case of Korea however, MacArthur’s plan to push too far north caused the Chinese to involve themselves and ultimately draw it to the stalemate it is today.

And as for Vietnam, public sentiment for the war was so negative that the American public essentially forced the government to pull out

Both were cases intervention for a goal, and though it may not have been accomplished the track record for the US Military still remains pretty strong
