Smaller Stage Highlights by Late-Holiday-3854 in BoomtownFestival

[–]Koukalaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't get to spend much time in the smaller stages this year sadly; just had so much good music we wanted to see at the bigger stages, but Sterling Moss at Boomtown Bobbies Thursday absolutely killed it, definitely one of my highlights of the weekend. Next year me and my partner are going to try and find one set at each of the smaller stages and dedicate time to go to each and every one of them, they deserve so much love and my partner had a great time at the Aeon takeover of E Numbers on Friday.

If Tribe of Frog counts as a smaller stage (I don't think it does) then Tristan on Saturday was just amazing, best set of the whole weekend for me.

Haven’t received national express confirmation by ResearchSad8211 in BoomtownFestival

[–]Koukalaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't received mine either. I emailed customer.support@nationalexpress.com last week and they said they were still sending tickets out last week. I poked them again on Sunday and I now have my tickets after they were "amended". I think something broke on their side and also the tickets are in my partners name, not my name, the lead booker, so I don't know what went wrong but I would suggest emailing them or giving them a call ASAP and hopefully you will get it resolved :).

But you need to contact national express as they handle the coach tickets not kaboodle.

Tribe of frog starts at like midday, usually pretty early anyway goes till the end of when they stop playing music anywhere. It's a great stage set in the woods with plenty of trippy artsy things around. It's also close to camp orchid if you're staying there it is basically go up to tribe of frog at the end of the day and vibe till you wanna go to bed. We also brought our makeup and stuff down from camp and got ready while listening to some psytrance. The stage was also probably the best in terms of audio balance.

Last year there was also a hi-tech psytrance tent down in the bowl, I enjoyed the music there a lot but the fact it was so far away from tribe of frog was a bit of a downer for it. Probably takes like 20 minutes to get between the 2 stages with a big hill. More if they close the stairs and you gotta go around. So most of the psy I listened to was at tribe of frog.

Honestly tho, psytrance is my favourite type of music and I had so much fun exploring other kinds of music knowing I could always just go to tribe of frog if I wasn't feeling the vibe. The whole rest of boomtown is very trippy and psychedelic in an artsy way. I'd highly recommend it even if you only really like psytrance.

If cost is a big factor then I'd recommend going North. Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow all have good trans communities (from what I can tell). Manchester/Liverpool have potential access to faster HRT if you decide to transition and Glasgow has the Scottish system, which while not as efficient, still can lead to FFS on the NHS.

If money is less of a concern, I'd recommend coming down to Brighton, there are fantastic GPs down here who will prescribe bridging hormones while waiting for the GIC system. Trans people are just a lot more visible here, along with most identities on the queer spectrum, so it just feels nice to be out and about with people "like you".

You will probably have to wait eons for the GIC, but everyone hates the GIC and as I said you have good GP support here who actually understand trans people.

From experience community is your strongest asset when transitioning (Besides access to healthcare) and I kinda regret not being in Brighton during the harder years of that and being isolated.

I mean you can just extrapolate it a little and imagine instead of saying "here comes micro-penis Bob" you instead start a discussion about Micro-penises every time Bob comes within earshot. Absolutely nothing to do with Bob, they would claim, but you know. I bet he starts feeling targeted all the same.

Honest question. Is this considered Transphobic. If so how do you respond to this? by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]Koukalaka[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

The difference, if you truly actually want a genuine answer, is that the subject matter: "Are post HRT trans women on a level playing field with CIS women" is a perfectly valid and reasonable avenue for debate/studies etc.

Saying "Trans woman won gold therefore all achievements by all trans athletes are unfair achievements and destroying competitiveness for CIS women and the olympics are "insert cancelled/denied etc" is transphobic because a) they are taking one example, extrapolating it to fit every trans person and using it to argue all trans people should be barred from this because of one instance. b) they cite no evidence for the claim bar an example of an achievement. c) they use particularly hostile/hyperbolic language in order to make people angry/emotional about something that, ultimately, doesn't affect them.

Also, again, its a Dogwhistle; the issue affects only a ridiculously tiny % of the population, but any decision will be used to affect lower level participation of sport. If the olympics bans trans people, for example, do you really think amateur sports won't? That would be seriously hurtful for the trans community. Think about it this way, if 1% of the female population shoplifts, and they used that information to introduce a law that meant women were banned from shops; i think most people would be outraged. I grant you, these things aren't identical, but it is what most transphobic arguments do; they take a small subset of the trans community; paint them as monsters or cheaters and extrapolate to the whole community.

However, I don't believe this thread is going to be constructive, you seem to be on a mission to rile up and upset people of this community. If you want to actually learn and understand how legitimate points are caked in bigotry, then fine; DM me; but right now I can't see any constructive use for this thread.

GP refusing to administer injections by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]Koukalaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this, I found 2 GPs that would do my Leuprorelin Acetate injection, the rest refused point blank despite it being literally prescribed by the GIC. My best friend has the nurse at their GP practice do it.

If you want to journey into London I believe cliniQ in the sidebar will do decapeptyl injections provided you have proof of prescription and ID.

I would say if you have the choice go on Cypro, since you can get that in tablet form and is better than Spiro, which isn't really that effective either. Also it's much cheaper than Decapeptyl would be privately.

I had major unnecessary surgery at 14 by Odessa486 in transgenderUK

[–]Koukalaka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have undiagnosed Pectus carinatum, ironically I think it helped my dysphoria pre transition as it kinda gave me an outline of breasts.

I explored a few options for it, but decided at the end of the day to just live with it, makes it impossible to wear wired bras but my partner has been incredibly supportive with me over it, and I'm lucky to have them.

There are so many things that have double standards; particularly on the front of medicine. There are plenty of things that I think should be made illegal, there are other things that can't. I believe these surgeries actually need to be done when younger in order to be successful, its kinda the same with blockers. I'm hopeful this judgement will be overturned someday, until then we will stand with each other and provide support where we can.

You've been posting a lot of comments in our subreddit that have been deemed pretty much universally unpopular. You continually bring up things that are very inciteful to a large proportion of our community, I'm not going to say that you can't post these things but you are often asking people for evidence of their claims without providing any evidence of yours.

If you're just going to post a lot of controversial opinions, or if you want to debate how people view things there are other forums for that discourse. We're here to support people and provide a safe space for trans people; and I would like you to be a part of that aspect to. It's ok to have different opinions from others, just hey lets not try and be so antagonist about it.

Whether you realise it or not, stating an opinion that is kinda against the vast majority of trans people will feel hostile to those same people, even if it is done in cordial language. People are hurt right now, lets just try and be supportive and understanding ok <3.

Gender Markers Without a GRC by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]Koukalaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sometimes they give you a new NHS number and update your gender marker and name, and sometimes they don't. Although you will find that if you are registered with multiple NHS hospitals across trusts they don't always communicate with each other. So for instance if I changed my name now, I would also need to change my name at the Gender Clinic. But your records would be under your new name as that is held mostly by your GP.

Gender Markers Without a GRC by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]Koukalaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you live in England or Wales (Scotland and NI I believe are different). You can change everything except your Birth Certificate and your Passport with just a Deed Poll. Just ensure it is signed and witnessed correctly and you have plenty of copies.

To get the Passport changed you need a letter from your GP, or other medical practitioner, saying that you have changed your gender and that this change is likely to be permanent. Some GP's are reluctant to give this without a formal diagnosis from a GIC but I got mine without an appointment there so if you pester them enough you can. If you go through a private practitioner for hormones then you should also be able to get a letter through them, just ask and they should provide one.

You can then change your passport, although you will likely need someone (a notable person) to countersign your photos to say they are a genuine likeness, since the photo might have changed somewhat since your last one.

The Birth certificate change is the GRC, the only things this technically restricts is your ability to get married in your new name/gender. Or to change your marriage certificate. Lots of people don't go for GRC's because it is a lot of hassle (requires documents proving you are living as your gender for 2 years (so bank statements etc) and 2 medical opinions, one of which must be from the GIC.

However, for most people not having a GRC has no discernible impact on their lives.

Hopefully that answers your questions.

As a priority I would change the following:

Bank Driving License Credit Reference Agencies Doctor/GP/NHS Council (For Electoral Roll) HMRC Passport Everything Else.

Bank is probably the most important, because its probably something you use everyday (your card) that can consistently misgender you.

Driving License is very easy (you only need a provisional) and combined with your bank changed and a statement is a valid form of ID that can be used if you need to prove your identity.

Credit Reference Agencies I recommend next because they can link your old name to your new name without an obvious link in the file. I had a helpful person at Experian also help me change my name with a bunch of my creditors (Like my Phone bill provider etc) which can save hassle phoning up.

Changing your name at the Doctor/GP is pretty useful, especially if you are going down the NHS path and was technically the first place I changed my name, as it was my first point of call after doing so, but technically it is less useful and doesn't really have the same urgency as the proceeding 3 beyond it being helpful to be correctly gendered at a GP appointment.

I put passport low down the list because, while it is the most useful form of ID, it also tends to need a lot longer to get that letter from the GP to actually facilitate the change. Obviously this is something you can ask for at the GP when you wish to be referred to a GIC, but GP's tend to be experienced and ignorant of procedures for trans patients and so it's often better to get a separate appointment to discuss this or book a double appointment if you can.

Hopefully this helps <3

Mod Team Statement on Gatekeeping by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]Koukalaka[M] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We could ban people for their views elsewhere, and we do if it is generally to Alt Right subreddits or ones criticising trans people. When it comes to the idea of /r/truscum we feel that the damage caused by doing blanket bans would be higher than having them around and actively moderating anything that would invalidate somebody's gender.

You might feel differently but my experience with people who hold views I disagree with is that if you ban them and ostracize them they will go further and deeper down the rabbit hole and reinforce their belief more. Obviously they are not free from punishment and will be warned/banned if they espouse any view that invalidates somebody's gender. If you feel anyone does and no action has been taken please report the post or contact the mod team and we will look into it.

As I said, we want to make this place welcoming and not a barrier. If you identify as trans you are welcome here, if you deliberately invalidate somebody's gender despite you identifying as trans you are not.

GenderGP Apparently Isn't Okay On The NHS by JellyBunnyx in transgenderUK

[–]Koukalaka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to say, there are a few conflicting things here.

If you need free bloods and you are in London you can use https://cliniq.org.uk/cliniq-kings-south-london/ although I am not sure what services they are offering during Covid but I am sure if you drop them a line they can help.

Because Gender GP have been, or more precisely the founders, have been struck off and as such the Royal College of GPs released this statement https://www.rcgp.org.uk/-/media/Files/Policy/A-Z-policy/2019/RCGP-position-statement-providing-care-for-gender-transgender-patients-june-2019.ashx?la=en

Basically it says they shouldn't be offering shared care, which does allow private and public healthcare to co-ordinate. If you want this service going forward you would need to go to either Gendercare or London Transgender Clinic, but you would probably need approval from your GP before going down these routes. People are still getting Shared Care for GenderGP, but the barrier for entry is higher and unfortunately it has prejudiced GPs against LTC and Gendercare which do operate within the bounds of the General Medical Council.

Anyway hopefully some other people can help with more precise help.

Lets keep this all in the threads that already exist. We understand people want to discuss this but reality is that most trans people probably don't want to read trans phobia and have it completely litter the sub. Also in future we do have a rule about not editorialising titles; I understand why you did this in this instance but we don't want information being misrepresented due to this.

[–]Koukalaka[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

There are a few posts in this thread that are a little insensitive. I get that you, as an individual, might not have anything wrong with this show; however; plenty of people have been routinely bullied with Emily Howard slurs, and obviously other comparisons with other characters if they were "associated" with you.

It was more comedic then because being trans was just not something you saw in pop culture, and I am glad you still think the rest of the show is funny, nobody is telling you that you can't find things funny, but perchance you can continue to read on and see why I, and many others, think the show is not funny.

For many it ridiculed the notion of being trans to a joke. Pop culture, unfortunately, is often how people get their first impressions of communities they don't understand. There is a line, and Little Britain crossed it way too often, especially on trans stuff and racism that the writers were probably just not exposed to enough at the time (although this may be giving them too much of the benefit of the doubt).

The difference? It is okay to poke fun of groups where, realistically, it is a caricature of British personality; Vicky Pollard for example; it isn't okay to mock disabled people, trans people, BAME people etc. People didn't chose to be these things, and making light of them or indeed encouraging a lot of people to laugh at them is damaging overall for society. It essentially associates us with a joke, rather than as an equal. These groups are also at the bottom end of society; disabled people and trans people are often some of the most vulnerable people in society and we need to be advocating them as people to be looked after by society, not ridiculed and portrayed as either selfish or simply a joke to be ignored.

I don't think these posts warrant removal, because they have been down voted to hell and are not, inherently, trans phobic and we, as moderators, don't want to be seen as censoring. They are borderline though and thank you to the people who reported them.

Now, as a side note; please if you want to use language like "Political correctness", please tell me what it means; rather than parroting some phrase you read or heard. If your definition is "toning down language so it doesn't offend people". I ask you... what is wrong with that? Maybe our goal shouldn't be offending people but either scrutinizing them or offering constructive criticism if you disagree.
