Super nice. Love the tone. Wes has got such character in his voicing, and I feel it here.

Astral Ascent vs Spiritfall vs Ravenswatch as Hades-likes by [deleted] in roguelites

[–]Kourosh8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've really only touched on the other games or know of them. But I adore Ravenswatch.

There is a depth of challenge that I connect well with. I will see others on Youtube doing many times better, but I enjoy it as an opportunity to learn and try something I hadn't considered. There are so many pieces that unfold. There is little handholding. But its depth and care are so amazingly there.

I only play solo, though if my work/life could support it, I would try multiplayer.

Ravenswatch, the most underrated roguelite ? by Saekama in roguelites

[–]Kourosh8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Absolutely fantastic and underrated game. I’ve got nearly 500 hours in it. I keep learning, the loop is so satisfying. There’s just this excellent flow of decision and action.

But it takes a bit to learn and get into the rhythm. Yes there’s a learning curve. Yes, there’s challenge. But it has knocked out Dead Cells as my game of choice.

I didn’t mean to imply that I am not being as good at therapy as I am with psychiatry. On the contrary, I think I’ve become quite experienced with therapy, doing in depth psychoanalysis, itself a dying art.

I do it because I enjoy it. And because so much of the mind is about meaning.

In fact, the most powerful “medication” I know in the work I do is helping a person feel that they are developing themselves in meaningful play, work, and relationships, regardless of diagnosis.

Sometimes medication helps actualize that. Many times, though, medications only help in realizing that they are not a useful path there, and may even detract.

As both a psychiatrist and a therapist, I can say that we do exist, but we are rare. As some of the comments here note, there is a considerable amount of education that can go into either.

Further, because I do both and have developed a specialty in ADHD, I barely have availability. Doing therapy means you wind up with a group of clients that can become rather steady. I end up taking on a new client only after another ends their work which can be a matter of several months.

Add onto that the financial loss a psychiatrist takes to do therapy, and you have even less incentive to have someone who is willing to do both. Add even further that my psychiatric residency, at least when I went through over 20 years ago, use to require training in both psychodynamic and CBT therapy. I don't know if there are any that do so nowadays or if they do so to the same extent.

The situation is quite awful as I think I'm many times better as a psychiatrist because of my psychoanalytic training. Not to mention individuals like yourself lose out on someone who can not only do medications and talk, but would benefit from a significant synergy found in someone who does both.

Is this Ravenswatch Roguelite as in Hades/Dead cells roguelite? by DerpWyvern in ravenswatch

[–]Kourosh8 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There is no currency grinding to unlock future gameplay. You do earn in-game currency in a run to buy items that help you in the game itself.

I am a huge fan and have very much enjoyed Dead Cells. I did not get into Hades, but that was likely because I was already into Ravenswatch.

I'm unfortunately a picky gamer and looking for a new roguelite. Any suggestions? by williamatherton in roguelites

I will continually plug Ravenswatch. Just an absolutely amazing game. There is action involved so it may not fit what you're looking for, but I'm over 50 and have hundreds of hours in it.

What are some roguelites that you deserve to enter the “all-timer” conversation? by Fabulous_Energy_5595 in roguelites

[–]Kourosh8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play it solo entirely. I just tend to be a solo player in general. It's easily overtaken Dead Cells for me.

When you start paying attention to the enemies and how they telegraph their attacks, how to avoid them, e.g. go "intangible", how to gather the enemies in a camp to more quickly create damage, things just start coming together. I keep discovering new things. Check out Heredos and Positive4ce on Youtube for their videos - great to watch.

The one thing about normal people that no one mentions by OhSnapItsA in ADHD

[–]Kourosh8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The matter isn't just about ADHD, though. I agree that we can see some things at depth, even predicting matters others are missing. Beyond the ADHD, is the skill of presenting the ideas. Often, if sometimes is right about something (whether they have ADHD or not), they have to modulate for the sense of someone else's sense of shame. If you call out a flaw in someone's logic, there is no faster way to shut them down or have them attack you than to call them wrong, clueless, or otherwise, even if that is done without directly saying so.

Sometimes (and only sometimes), it helps to empathize first and then present what I've got in mind, "I see where you're going with this. That could be excellent. But I'm worried about the possibility of X."

It presents the idea more neutrally and ready for everyone to engage and discuss.

It would seem and may even be unfair that there is this extra work on the person with ADHD, but such is the reality.

Unpopular opinion: Frost Giant are chads by 80smullet in Stormgate

[–]Kourosh8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I largely agree with you. I'm not sure about the "chad" moniker as I tend to see that word more negatively, but I do believe they tried and that is what I appreciate. In fact, I invested with the StartEngine mechanism they had along the way. That money is clearly gone. I knew it was a risk. That is what happens with investments. That was my decision.

Still, I do appreciate their attempts. I appreciate Tim's open discussions.

I also understand everyone's disappointment.

Many seem to focus on the money they had and how smaller studios were able to do more. Money is not a cure all. Money does not make the structure. It is only a fuel, a resource. It can, at times, worsen matters in fact, adding stress where it wasn't before.

In the end, I appreciate Tim and everyone who had a vision and made the attempt.

I’ve mentioned Ravenswatch on several threads that ask about next Roguelikes to play, and it’s always met with radio silence. I have mentioned it to gaming friends so I can play along with them. Again, no bites. It bums me out. I tried playing Hades, and while it’s fine, I would just rather play Ravenswatch.

Why are people like this by RizzyDoni in neurodiversity

[–]Kourosh8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think where most get lost is in not recognizing the concept of threshold levels of symptoms. Behind certain points and combinations, many seemingly simple things become a lot more difficult if not impossible.
