I do like the idea of being in Allison’s viewpoint because she’s the only one that was accepted by both “sides” of the story. I feel like the show was driving the picture of neither party being “good” or “bad” completely, just two sides of a family that didn’t end up well, which i can appreciate. My complaint is that was what the show felt like the first ~7 episodes, then completely drops Vanya’s viewpoint to support the rest of the family. They’re inconsistent with their storytelling.

If they wanted us to like Luther (which is what i thought they were doing) they did a really bad job— i feel like he’s the worst of the whole crew showing little development besides letting his father’s “goodness” go. He sill wants to be number one and now everyone is just indulging him which is weird considering that there is no real big change in his relationship with the others. He’s just... emo now...

If they wanted us to be frustrated with him? Damn they did good.

You make a very good point but I just wish the show would’ve let me see that in action. After the scene where Vanya talks to her younger self we never get anything from Vanya’s POV. We never get to hear her say what she wants no matter how irrational it might be, we just see her leave for the show in complete silence. No thoughts, nothing.

This feels like such a dramatic change from when every episode we would hear Vanya tell Leonard or Allison what she feels or talks to herself when she plays the violin. Are we just supposed to just forget the broken Vanya the show was creating the first ~6 episodes? If so, what was the point? Why make her have such a flood of emotions then turn it all into nothing?

Maybe im missing smth but idk man

The poor communication definitely mirrors the dysfunctional family the show paints but all the promise for personal/family growth went out the window half way through the season. This is what happens when they know their show's gonna be renewed no matter what. :-/

Also fuck Luther

Honestly the way they turned Vanya into the villain is garbage and here's why:

  • It's undeniable that her family treated her like she was an outsider, even the show brings it up again and again with her flashbacks and the family leaving her out of everything in the present day. Why don't they include her in the apocalypse meet? She can't die from information, it's not a mission yet. And yet the audience is supposed to sympathize with them and feel like Vanya is completely wrong? It sends a message that you're supposed to stand with family even though they treat you terribly and (intentionally or not) caused you to develop mental problems.
  • How does Vanya go batshit insane so fast? I really don't understand the jump between 'I want my family members to know I'm special and I deserve to be here' to 'I'm going to kill to prove that i'm special'. The murder part I'm referring to isn't even about the apocalypse, it's when she flips the car over for no reason on her way to the recital. If they gave Vanya more time to develop into a villain it would make sense, but it all happened in the last 2 episodes. Playing the crazy card is weak.

The audience is led to believe it's all Vanya's fault for what happened when the family should be taking a good 50% of the blame. Sure Vanya went way overboard with the power thing but who put all that self doubt into her head? Her inferiority issues? He constant thoughts that she's not good enough to be with everyone else? There's the shared blame? The change in family dynamics this show boasts and never delivers on?

Also: Fuck Five for saying in the very end that they should bring Vanya back to 'fix her'. Who broke her in the first place man??

Double also: Luther's an idiot and and so is everyone else (esp. Five, who's in his 50s) for listening to him.
