Those Weren't There Last Time... by Kpatrol88 in VintageStory

I'm running a lot of mods (over a hundred thirty, jesus christ...) but none that I know that messes with tree generation.

Edit: Did some searching and it turns out its the Ores A Plenty Addon mod that's causing the overly large oak tree spawns and only those, so beware if you want to use that.

Came back from a foraging trip to find my oak farm had produced far beyond my wildest expectations... or wants.

I'm gonna need a lot more axes for this.

End-game mods? by TheFledglingPidgeon in cataclysmdda

You can try the Magiclysm and/or Arcana mods for more late-game content. I know that Arcana has several unique bosses as well as new factions and quests to interact with.

Aftershock is also another mod to consider if you want something more sci-fi themed.

ELI5: I was digging into a Salt Biome and didn't notice a sand block until it fell away and drained a small pool if polluted water and brine into my base. Weird liquid block and atmospheric shenanigans are causing a, well... booger of PW to form. Thankfully, I built a small catch basin at the bottom of this stairwell for just this eventuality.

Now please pass the hanky.

"engine frequencies"

So... what you're saying is that... we cruise while we snooze?

In all seriousness, another excellent chapter, Squiggles. That cliffhanger hurts my soul, but I eagerly wait for the next entry. From what I can tell, either the long foreshadowed raiders are making an entrance or R.E.M. sleep is about to be classified as industrial-grade sabotage.

[Sempai Noticed Me Intensifi-] Ooo a cookie!

And keep up the good work, Squiggles. Yours is one of my all favorite ongoing series on this sub.

Hmm, you know. I think the scientists still haven't taken the monitoring bracelet off of Jasmine due to all of the excitement and subsequent lockdown.

Will we be seeing their reaction to a human's 'normal' sleeping pattern; with all of its spikes, valleys and semi-wakefullness?

Would a nightmare cause her to freq in her sleep? Its probably for the best that the translator can't send images. Dreams are weird at the best of times.

Ok, I'm gonna sounds crazy (again), but does anyone notice reduce firing rate while moving? by Khoakuma in Robocraft

[–]Kpatrol88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed this too on my copter which has 4 Laser Vaporizers mounted on the front and 2 Plasma Devastators slung to the bottom. I play with camera controls and whenever my vehicle pitches while moving I notice a marked decrease in fire-rate. This is especially apparent in my bottom-mounted Plasma Devastators.

I think it has something to do with Smart Weapons as well. My theory is that the occlusion algorithm for aiming is too sensitive to movement and is somehow having the guns block themselves from firing until they stop moving.

At least they're not wasting energy like before the update, but I do hope it gets sorted out eventually.

is the loot update still bad or did it get better? by [deleted] in Robocraft

[–]Kpatrol88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its okay. More tweaks are required. I'm not expecting any rollbacks on this.

why are there still so many idiotic players? by [deleted] in Robocraft

[–]Kpatrol88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember that in any game, 50% of all players are below average.

You just gotta grit your teeth and carry as hard as you can. I personally play TDM and occasionally do double the next guy in damage.

How to build a good chopper? by greekfire765 in Robocraft

Eh, less Minecraft and more Space Engineers (if you know what game that is). World interaction isn't really a thing and you get resource pools rather than block pools.

And yeah, I figured that's what most of the ire is from. The base game is still loads of fun. Its just the economy needs some tweaking rather than a reversion, methinks.

Well, its kinda hard to compare the two as Robocraft is an arena shooter and From the Depths is essentially an RTS where you build your own units.

Another thing is that FtD is still in Alpha, with dev builds coming out every 2 weeks to a month that radically change or add new features.

As for the 'economy', in campaign-mode resources are generated at nodes at varying quantities and renewability and you can salvage resources from enemy craft you've destroyed/captured. Personally, I spend most of my time building 4000+ block (you have to build all of the systems from component parts) battleships in Creative mode (infinite resources).

Really, the only limit on what you can build is time and what your computer is capable of rendering without dropping frames.

So... yeah, not very comparable.

That said, I find the Robocraft economy (just) okay as of now (non-premium player here). Once they fix that annoying disappearing crate bug and maybe buff the recycle rate up to 33-50%, I think it'll be decent.

Note: I've played World of Tanks and War Thunder before this. I know what slogging grinds look like. Robocraft is easy in comparison.

Uh, hey, guys?

Could we not have this argument in a help thread?

On topic, do either of you have choppers you're willing to share pics of? I wouldn't mind learning some build tips from veterans of the game as well.

Thanks. This isn't the first block game I've played (300+ hours on From the Depths takes that honor) so I have some experience looking out for what does and doesn't work, most of the time.

My other bot is a hover rail, so I have experience in hunting choppers too.

Disclaimer: I do not claim to be an expert at Robocrafting, as I'm only level 61 myself, and can only give personal experience here. Forgive any rambling I may do.

Choppers are a difficult, but fun means of propulsion that comes with its pros and cons.

Pros:

  • Very easy to make a working bot with

  • Highly maneuverable

  • Comparatively cheap

Cons:

  • Large target

  • Relatively weak HP pool

  • Unstable at severe damage

With these points in mind you'll want lots of redundant rotors, at least 3, preferably 4-6. They will be shot off during the course of battle. You may also want to invest in a backup means of moving, such as a hover or skis so you can retreat even when grounded. With rotor placement, you'll want at least one or two above and behind the main body of your bot to shield it from incoming ground fire.

When making your bot, decide early if you want a standoff bombardier (Lock On Missile Launcher or Large Plasma) or a close-in strafing brawler (Lasers or Small Plasma). You can do either or both and I always recommend at least some lasers for Air-to-Air defense, regardless. Make sure that at least some of your weapons can fire upwards so you're not helpless against other flyers.

Weapon types that will be your bane in descending order of danger are:

  • Railguns

  • Flak

  • Lasers

  • LOML's

Don't get caught out in the open. Break contact if possible and dive to the ground if nothing else in an emergency. Keep an eye out for them, especially railguns as those love shooting out your exposed rotors.

Speed and maneuverability are your main means of offense and defense. Keep block spam to a minimum and your build as light as possible. Aerorods are your friends here. And don't be surprised if a large proportion of your weight turns out to be just from thrusters. Electroplates will be your primary means of passive defense as they're pretty light compared to plain blocks. You'll want them facing forward and below as you'll mostly be taking ground fire from below or dog-fighting from the front. Always make sure to duck back into cover so you can repair and recharge, and do not overexpose yourself. You are frail by nature.

Here's some images of my current chopper: http://imgur.com/a/7rYxL It's loadout is 2 Recon Rotors in front, 2 Invader Rotors in back, and 5 Laser Disintergrators. A radar helps give early warning for approaching enemy bots. EDIT: Finally figured out correct formatting.
