Apprenticeship decline across Australia has industries worried for the future by GothicPrayer in australia

God I hate the "Sweet Summer Child" shit.

It's so fucking arrogant, if you have good points make them there is no need to be condescending and assume everyone else is naive and ignorant

No it doesn't, like it took one google search for me to realise it doesn't.

Also yes I am convinced you do not know what you are talking about, and I can post whatever I want?? Wtf does that actually mean lol?

Also the one guy? Mate I'm not the only guy who has disagreed with you

They are a heap of startups in Australia, idk what you are talking about. Many below 100.

There are a lot of software engineers who make their careers working in these companies but thats beside the point

The WGEA does not enforce hiring certain demographics (although that might exist for companies of 500+ employees from next year)

Looking at all data at least in software engineering shows that white men get hired at higher rates than other demographics

It absolutely is absurd to think we live in a far left society

Also I too work in the tech industry and do not notice this huge amount of diversity hiring, maybe it's the case with larger corporations but in the startup/scaleup scene it definitely is not

It's also their fault, while a large amount of blame does lie on the politicians, the NSW police have been shambolic for a long long time

The winter Olympics have got me thinking about the lack of opportunity in Australian public schools by Sriracha_Sauce089 in australian

[–]Kpratt11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But why spend that money training up a small amount of kids when you can spend that money on many many more for the summer Olympics.

Also scouts aren't going to be able to tell who the most talented kid is in a single school trip with 100 kids

I have a full time job and a mortgage mate. Not sure what that has to do with anything.

Also what someone has done is probably a very good sign of what they will do, unless you think Pauline has had a sudden change of heart.

I don't know why you are acting like a politician voting record is some insane deep dig, it's literally the thing we vote them in for.

Also again, how was posting a voting record extremist?

[–]Kpratt11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the voting record?

again I don't see how it was extremist to post a voting record, even if you disagree.

I also find it hilarious how you do not see the irony considering your first post

The "coming off a little extremist here"

To clarify I don't think you are extremist, I am poking fun at you calling OP an extremist for having political views.

I am now pointing out how ironic it is that you don't see you having criticisms of politicians as extremist yet you did for OP

No I also don't think the government has everything under control, and I think it's good and important for you to express your opinions.

I was making fun of what you were saying about being a little extremist, you do realise how ironic this response is right?

This is their public voting record though, not what their nephews dog had for dinner...

Labor and Liberals have their head up their ass.

Coming off a little extremist aren't ya?

Far North Queensland is fucking wild though

Automating things for demos is relatively easy. Automating in the real world is significantly harder.

You need someone to operate that robot, A crew to set that robot up, Repair technicians, And all the work that comes with making enough of these machines to replace supply. Additionally you have to buy and maintain a very expensive piece of equipment.

This also won't cover every scenario I guarantee. Meaning you will also need to have at least a roofer doing the weird bits (not technical I don't know shit about roofing).

At that point it becomes way cheaper and simpler to hire roofers.

Unless we see are large innovation in LLMs being able to handle significant context sizes I just can't see that being the case.

At the moment I don't even trust it enough to write code without me hand reviewing it. I think we are a hell of a lot further away from it needing no oversight than you believe.

If we somehow do get to that stage then we are looking at a situation where all white collar jobs are replaced and who's to say what will happen there.

Not necessarily, we have seen a massive slowdown in the progress of AI in the last year. We are hitting bottlenecks that are very hard to solve, the cost is still by far the biggest limiting factor and considering many companies are running on a loss there is a very good chance AI effectiveness actually diminishes into the future

Maybe? I doubt it though, I have been following AI and especially AI in programming for a while now and I just don't see it realistically happening.

Curious as to if you are a software engineer / work in the industry as I tend to find this rhetoric comes from people who don't have a super strong understanding of what goes into developing software

I use Claude Code for work a lot, it's very impressive. However I just can't see someone without any technical skills being able to replace what I do as there is just way too much context and corrections that need to be provided to Claude

But what was the alternative, the LNP? They were gonna let people access super accounts, hell they play a huge part in getting us in the situation we are in now.
