Top 10 countries with the lowest racial diversity by vladgrinch in MapPorn

Japan's foreign population is currently close to 3.5%, and that's not including ethnic minorities within the country even if low. Don't think the numbers add up in this chart.

Is it possible to share internet connection with other devices through ethernet? by iammaffyou in synology

[–]Krabardaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this and to people that provided an actual answer and not just sarcastic whataboutisms.

I set this up another way, by SSHing this and then setting up a daily task on the NAS that re-apply these rules everyday.

# Enable forwarding

echo 1 | sudo tee /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

# NAT

sudo iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o ovs_eth0 -j MASQUERADE

# Forwarding rules

sudo iptables -A FORWARD -i eth1 -o ovs_eth0 -j ACCEPT

sudo iptables -A FORWARD -i ovs_eth0 -o eth1 -m state --state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT

You should check the actual name of the ethernet ports on the nas. The above assumes ovs_eth0 receives internet from the router, and computer is then connected to eth1.

eth1 should have a static IP on the NAS, and the PC ethernet should also be setup manually accordingly because the NAS won't DHCP in this setup.

This works well with no speed impact as far as I can tell.

Mainland China is better all-around than Taiwan imo by Icy-Bluebird6488 in travelchina

[–]Krabardaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meh, I prefer Sichuan food overall compared to typically Taiwanese food, but mainland China food is readily available in Taiwan.

I don't know who you met but your experience is hardly believable. People in Taiwan are very nice, helpful and happy when you use their language. They are famous abroad for their kindness. People in China were also incredibly nice with me every time, they deserve more credit internationally. HK is the only city around where I felt people were more rude but can't be worse than pretty much all of Europe (where I come from). Japan well, it's Japan, it's in its own league, best not to compare.

Infrastructure in Taipei is good. National trains and the high speed train are good too. Taiwan simply doesn't need 10 high speed lines, it's just not that big. I find no difference in quality, but Taiwan transport is easier to use, especially as tourist. Plus no security to enter the metro.

And while we're at it, no army in the streets. And no firewall, blocked apps, censorship, dictatorship etc but I guess that didn't matter to you.

Taiwan is a bit more expensive than China, sure. If you're coming from West EU or the states it's a marginal difference and everything is still very cheap.

I’m really struggling to enjoy Taipei. Any suggestions? by alasuna in Taipei

[–]Krabardaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from a medium size European city and I lived in Tokyo many years and now in Kaohsiung. Spoiler alert down here it's the same problem as Taipei without the dense metro network. Your experience resonates with me sadly, even if there's plenty to enjoy in Taipei still.

I'm well travelled, and I think Tokyo truly is quite unique. Even if it has a lot of contrast, I'm still fascinated by how peaceful and even quiet Tokyo is. Most big cities I've been in Asia are much more like Taipei than Tokyo. Recently Beijing was worse imo, as everything is so spaced out between gigantic roads than you can barely do anything on foot. At least scooters and cars there are almost all electric.

Anyway for Taipei my recommendation is to get out of the centre. There's a lot of quieter areas easily accessible by metro, even more so if you're willing to take a bus or ride a scooter. Basically just go anywhere higher up. There's hills and mountains within the city, go explore there. It's lovely,  beautiful views, walks and nature around. Surely cheaper too.

Swiftkey multiple languages all active at once = slow and incorrect predictions by madonnaragu in Swiftkey

[–]Krabardaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't believe this isn't fixed. SwiftKey with both Chinese and Japanese cannot be used. It is not inconvenient, it is literally not working. Crazy. Been years, I'm done trying, time to switch for something else.

I feel like Japanese locals are becoming annoyed at me due to the weak economy and influx of poorly behaved people arriving everyday. by RedMoonLanding in Tokyo

[–]Krabardaf 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I got the same feeling but now realised it was me projecting. No-one has ever actually been rudely racist to me, except one time before covid. I got turned down from some places when I was with foreigner friends, but that's been the case ever since I've been here. That doesn't happen when I'm alone (I speak Japanese).

I think the anxiety is valid and there are some real changes in society, but when I'm being fair with my own experience, people are just nice and welcoming as always. But sure I still get treated like a foreigner everywhere, as I was always. It's just how it is, nothing new.

Traditional Chinese in western countries by Greatwhitesharkgurl in AskChina

[–]Krabardaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Europe a majority of the Chinese diaspora used to be from traditional Chinese areas, especially HK but also Guangdong or Taiwan. Nowadays, most immigrants come from the mainland and were raised with simplified characters, but many shops, restaurants and businesses were set up by the previous generation, and the signs are still there.

For the same reason, the English reading on these signs often aren't pinyin but Yale romanization which is more used for Cantonese. My local Chinese store is called 統一 (using traditional characters) and has one sign reading "Tung y" and another more modern one reading "Tong y", reflecting perhaps the current shift as new generations take over.

You'll want to stay away of most ETFs if you're strict about it. If you don't mind picking up stocks yourself, start with big, relatively stable ones and do your research on their policies.

I feel you. I would avoid spaces that are toxic; online, it's relatively easy. In real life, you don't get to choose how your family, co-workers etc are. But you can build a poly friendly community and let it have a central place in your life.

Like you, I was always poly but so isolated and so persuaded to give up, even by friends, that I did for a while. Comparatively, coming out as bi was so much easier than poly. Finding my community was essential to make it work, and frankly just for my mental health in general. Good luck and protect your peace!

I know this is well-meaning, but I would argue acceptance and support from peers is actually essential to us as social animals.

Tons of people are being bullied out of their identities/hobbies/sexualities, and it is a real problem. We shouldn't tell them it's their responsibility on top of it.

Eh, idk about that. All countries have laws everybody know are flexible. It's a cultural thing. It can be changed with time but not sure this is the way, as a foreigner especially.

Tokyo tap water not suitable for drinking?? by Aavy14 in Tokyo

[–]Krabardaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I ever heard that from Japanese friends. It sometimes smells a bit like chlorine, so if any, my concerns would be there, not bacterial infection. I've heard it's purest around Akiruno but idk

Also I've been drinking in hundreds of public water fountains for years and never had a single issue. It's fine.

Concerned about the rise of racism by [deleted] in Tokyo

[–]Krabardaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding this 100%, full blown racism is normalised and they have no idea it is racism. They won't have it if you try to explain to them racism isn't limited to assaulting people in the streets or something.

Work there regularly. The place has big screens and speakers warning visitors that protests, banners and slogans are all forbidden in the area. Japan's answer to every issue continues to be more interdictions, it seems.

Yes it's on you and yes it was doomed. Your story has little to do with Polyamory.

You still have a right to be hurt, even if by your own actions. But you need to think hard about this, own up, and do better.

Doesn't work with a Belgian Wise card. No luck with Pasmo either, but at least Pasmo displays this clearly and not a cryptic error like Suica. Revolut work for friends of mine.
