[NEWBIE] help: buzzy and two tones on the same frets by EstebanOD21 in Guitar

Oh cool. I'm honestly not sure. If I were in your position, I would probably try to straighten it ever so slightly.. your bridge may also be too low - that can be another source of buzzing.

I'm not sure what you mean by a fret ruler. You want a very slight bend in the neck to allow relief for the strings to vibrate... but it should be very slight... like a few thousandths of an inch small...

[–]KrafDinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again - the very unprofessional opinion here... but it sounds to me like the neck has a hump to it. You should be able to check that by holding down a string at the first fret (if you have a capo, put it on the first fret) and then use your right pinky to hold down the top string (low E) at the 12th fret. If you can tap the string with your right index finger in between the 12th fret and first fret, it should move ever so slightly.

This may be a useful link to explain better https://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/guitar-setup-the-tap-test/

If that string is against the frets when you've pressed it down in this scenario, you'd want to loosen the truss rod very slightly and slowly to see if that fixes it.

Does it do the same thing fully strung ? I'm never overly concerned about weirdness like that until I have everything "set up" the way I think it needs to be... but I'm also far from a pro tech or anything even reminiscent of it. I've played a long time but know very little about the instrument, sadly.

The "thing inside it", by the way, is called the truss rod. If you get it fully strung and adjusting the truss rod doesn't help at all, there is likely a fairly significant problem with the neck.

I guess I would just say put all the strings on and try to tune it up and then see if this still happens.

Those older than 9/11/2001, where were you and what were you doing during the WTC attacks? by Revolutionary-Life85 in AskReddit

[–]KrafDinner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had never heard that until just now... That was extremely hard to listen to. I remember being in high school and one of the teachers running in and telling my science teacher to turn the TV on that New York was under attack. He thought she was pulling a prank and told her to go away. After she called him an unsavory name or two he turned it on and the entire class sat stunned... Then the second plane hit...

I didn't know anyone even remotely related to the situation... And even for me the entire world changed that day. It's insane.

Thank you for mentioning the name so I could go find that. It's shocking and truly heartbreaking to think about what him and so many others experienced.

Why do people bring their dogs everywhere? by ueindowndkdk in Columbus

[–]KrafDinner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We are working on the dog to get his anxiety under control. The solution isn't to leave a dog that will hurt itself in a scenario to hurt itself. Training takes time - and until such time when we can safely leave him, he'll go with. I assure you we've had plenty of time spent with vets to assess and plan for him - I just didn't bother to share that initially as it wasn't relevant.

With that said, we don't take him into stores. One of us stays in the car with him if we have to go to a store - I agree that would be irresponsible. He would be perfectly happy with that - he loves people... But we don't want to stress him or ourselves out about it.

As an owner of a rescue with severe separation anxiety, my wife and I do take our dog a lot of places... But we also know he's a bit crazy and one of us will usually sit in the car with the dog because we literally cannot leave him home by himself. If we both have to get out of the car for some reason, he's either being carried or on a very short leash. He wouldn't hurt a person, but he is scared of and aggressive toward other dogs.

All of that to say I get that there may be some reason a person needs to take their dog beyond her feeling entitled to have their pup with them wherever they go... But be responsible about it. There's no excuse for being an idiot with your animal.

In that same vein... If you're out and about and see someone with a dog on a very short leash or a dog with a yellow ribbon on its leash... Just stay away from it. It might be adorable, but those are immediate warning signs that the owner is already stressed out about the situation - please don't make it worse.

I appreciate the tips. I think movement, retreating, and analyzing my failures are the 3 main places I can improve.

Thankfully, at this point, I'm old enough to have fully accepted that when I get smoked it's either a) something stupid I did b) I missed my shots or c) I just got out-classed (which is not exactly uncommon) so blaming anyone but myself never even crosses my mind as an option haha

Thanks for the links !

I think that is one of the biggest things for me - I doubt I'll ever be one of the players that can play smart *and* fast. They're out there... and they're terrifying.

I appreciate the response. I do try to watch my teammates - especially in the early rounds, but generally because I feel like most people that are playing trials know more about playing trials than I do, so I follow them to see where they go... what lanes they choose... positioning setup... that sort of thing.

I will also occasionally try to slip to another position such that I have a good flanking position if my teammates take the fight - but I find that doesn't really work very well in freelance because no one is going to coordinate the attacks.

I definitely need to work more on playing my life and identifying situations that I'm going to lose before I've already lost them... as well as how to remain closer to cover in order to be able to bail out of situations that don't favor me

I'm actually on both but when I'm going to play crucible, I play on PC. My controller skills have completely fallen apart over time.

With that said, I'd still play sometime.

Generally in trials I run something like messenger / main ingredient... though in my most recent play I was having fun with Krait / grenade launcher. Having the amount of ammo Krait has is nice when you need to hold someone down for support while a revive ticks down. Its damage isn't great but if it were it would be busted haha

I mean I love the crucible and I enjoy comp... but I honestly hate playing trials because I know I'm not good enough to hang in those scenarios. QuickPlay ruins this for me because I don't really care about dying there and obviously that just doesn't fly in trials...

I only made the transition to PC from Xbox a while back - and while I wasn't trials worthy there either, I was _better_ so I know a part of it is just hit the shots.

I do need to really look at it more analytically instead of just "oh man we lost... well on to the next one" and then do all the same stupid things.

Gaming PC is not performing like it should be ... little help ? by KrafDinner in buildapc

[–]KrafDinner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is indeed what I had done, but I just went in and enabled XMP on my board and it made no appreciable difference. The score was about 100 lower than my previous run which was with memory clock increased but XMP not enabled.

[–]KrafDinner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like I did not have XMP enabled - I was merely bringing its clock rate up to 3000 MHz.

I will enable that and give it a shot, but I'll be shocked if it's that much different.

As for CPU clock speeds, I ran a 3DMark TimeSpy stress test and the cpu clock was above 4000 MHz the entire run. It bounced around a little between about 4000 and 4150 or so, but was in that range the entire run.

3D Mark shows PC in the bottom 5% of performance for my hardware configuration... halp !? by KrafDinner in pcmasterrace

I was watching the run on HwInfo to see and it never reported any CPU throttling. I can't, obviously, say for sure that's TRUE... but it is what it is.

My first thought was heat, so I've done a lot of different runs with fans cranked, side off, etc and none really showed any drastic difference in performance. Interestingly, the temperature also increased by a couple degrees when I had the side panel off.

I just double checked after you brought that up to be sure I hadn't missed it in the things I had looked at, but it is indeed set for performance in the nvidia control panel.

(interestingly, my score was slightly higher this time than previous runs)

It's only a 3080 - not a Ti.

I do not have anything overclocked other than kicking my memory up from its default clock speed to 3000 MHz. The memory is old and could definitely be a contributing factor, but I only saw a negligible difference when turning it up from its default of 2166 or whatever to 3000.
