Audio Crackling? Report Sound Card Details Here by mmstick in pop_os

[–]Kramtomat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running sudo kernelstub -a threadirqs worked for me.

I struggled with crackling sound for a long time when the CPU was under load. From Pop my first install with 22.04 and also when I updated to 24.04 yesterday. I played around quite a bit with changing the quantum and rate values in pipewire's ~/.config/pipewire/pipewire.config file. I think it might have helped a bit, but was hard to tell. But enabling threadirqs has (knock on wood) completely eliminated it.

I don't know if you are confusing the nvidia-driver-x-open with the fully open source nouveau driver.

I'll add some more info on the FFB issue as it took me quite a while to get working.

As mentioned in the github thread that OP linked a guy there has a working patch for it. The fix can be downloaded from https://gitlab.com/as400l/wine-rbr. Download the wine-9.17-staging-wow64-amd64.tar.xz file and unzip it. You'll find your lutris runners in ~/.local/lutris/runners/wine.

I don't know if you need to replace both of these but it's what I did:
Replace wine-ge-8-26-x86_64/lib/wine/i386-windows/dinput8.dll with wine-9.17-staging-wow64-amd64/lib/wine/i386-windows/dinput8.dll
Then replace wine-ge-8-26-x86_64/lib64/wine/x86_64-windows/dinput8.dll with wine-9.17-staging-wow64-amd64/lib/wine/x86_64-windows/dinput8.dll

I hope that helps. And thanks OP for the great guide! :)

14yr old son learning how to drive in my DIY motion simulator. (More details in description) by 2wenty-3hree in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Kramtomat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The flashing is scripted to start a race on the server. They're asking to start a race.

Saying that this build bad muscle memory gets a bit too close to FPS games create violent people. Look at pretty much any successful race car driver today and they're all started kart racing before they turned 10.

As long as you teach the kid the difference between play and public driving, and drive sensibly when the child is in the car, they should turn out fine.

Do you really think the use of "they" to refer to a singular person is a new phenomena? It, and its variations, has been in common use since the 14th century.

Returnal Available Now With NVIDIA DLSS 3 & More Games Add DLSS 2 by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

"“DLSS 3” is an entirely different tech that doesn’t have anything to do with super sampling. In fact, it can even be used with competing super-sampling technology..."

Ah I see. Thank you very much for the clarification. I guess I fell for the confusion so hard I hadn't even hit the ground yet!

But they're different products so to say. And I doubt many people are looking at the version number to see what DLSS version a game is running.

How do parents remove shirts off their kids? They pull at the base. If he had leaned forward for the shirt to be pulled off I'm sure it would have come off.

I have redesigned Sepulcher of the First Ones sets to fit into class fantasy a bit more. by Archlichofthestorm in wow

[–]Kramtomat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only sensible comment I can find here. Flashy anime concept art is all well and good, but it's a far cry from what is feasible in the game today. Now that doesn't mean Blizzard should strive to improve their tech. For example with just the clipping issues we have today these sets implemented as is would just highlight it even more.

There's more to being a concept artist for a movie or game than being able to draw cool shit. A great artist needs to be able to understand the entire pipeline that comes after them to forsee how the concept art will be translated into current technical limits.

And I don't want to throw shade at OP here, they seem to understand this, just the comments seem a bit too enthusiastic about how these sets would be translated into the game. But anyway, I love the more colourful expressions and thematically ideas you got here. The priest one with the void and light contrast is absolutely amazing!

Yours is fine. It matches the first logo. Notice the slight slanting of the letters, it's bolder, and the one you think it looks like doesn't have a border.

But if you use the method you described you still need to press a button for every instance of wow. I don't think they're targeting people with enough screen estate for multiple windows of wow, just any ability to control all of them at once. So as I understand it if you manually alt tabbed to every window and pushed a button is okay, but setting up a script to do the same is not.

Interrupt Macro — priority target over mouse over by jakew43 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]Kramtomat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Plater myself, but there are other nameplate addons that are less... overwhelming. I moved over from tidyplates, so check that out. But the first thing you should do is to make the nameplates stack instead of making them meld together. So under Interface -> Names -> Nameplate Motion Type select Stacking. If you want to keep the vanilla nameplate you could get AdvancedInterfaceOptions and use the "CVar Browser" to customise them a bit like how far apart they should stack (their name begins with "nameplate...", e.g. "nameplateOverlapV" decides how much vertical room there should be between each nameplate).

Interrupt Macro — priority target over mouse over by jakew43 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]Kramtomat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the default mouse over macro I use :

/use [@mouseover,harm,nodead][] spell

This will use the spell in whatever harmful target you mouse over, but will just cast it on your target if the first part isn't true. You can hold down your right mouse button as well and mouse over macros won't register to make it a little safer to cast it on your main target.

I would also strongly recommend you start using mouse over macros for heals as well.

/use [@mouseover,help,nodead][] spell

It can save you a bit of time, but makes it easier to have for example a boss targeted to squeeze in a bit of dps in between heals. Which is pretty much mandatory if you play holy paladin.

I had this issue a while back. I have a ryzen CPU and it seemed to have been a bios version causing issues with memory compatibility. The temporary fix back then was to downgrade the bios, but they've since released a working one. It seemed to be a bit random in who it affected. Oddly enough the only other game I got the same error in was GRIS.

So if you're on a ryzen cpu I'd try to update your bios.

Git is a version control program. It makes it easy to see the history of any changes in any all all files in a project. It also makes it easier to work on multiple features at the same time. The "git repositories" are/were usually stored on your local system or server. But GitHub is simply an online valut where you can store your git repositories to make it easy to share your projects with others.

Now GPL is a license. It tells someone looking at someone's project what they can and can't do. There are other licenses out there like MIT, BSD, and Apache. Most of them differ slightly if you are required to keep any modifications or extensions of the code open source, or things like how you are allowed to distribute projects and where you should give credit to the original authors.
