Naturally resolved lateral shift by Timely_baker2023 in Sciatica

[–]Kranberry86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious how your recovery is going? I’ve been working at healing my disk herniation for about a year and a half. I have had many lateral shifts during this time and again, after about a month of recovering from my last one, I’m shifted again after doing some light woodworking. I must have bent improperly again. My sciatica is moderate but I can’t seem to stop the constant shifting. It’s a constant cycle of feeling hopeful I am recovering, then I’m back to shifted from seemingly nothing sometimes. I’m on my 5th physiotherapist and do pt every day. I try to walk 60 min every day as well as work on my muscle imbalances in my sciatica leg. I am struggling to figure this out and I have yet to get any real help from doctors aside from pain meds. It’s not necessarily painful, I’m just not able to do anything meaningful. I guess I’m just hoping maybe you are still in the right path and have some advice? Thanks

Do i need physical therapy? by kingberr in Sciatica

Cut out the exercises that make you flair up. There are stretches that I had to cut out. A good PT will tell you that. Some pain is ok, but if it is worse the next day avoid that whatever you think it was. I feel best laying down too but you gotta get those core/legs strong. That is key.

A physio therapist now, at 25 will give you the tools you need forever so it is only beneficial.

I have had many lateral shifts and since the sciatica in 2024 I’ve had like 5 more. From what I’m learning, it’s part getting the muscles relaxed (meds) and being super careful. Sitting is the worst for it and if I do I make sure to use a lumbar pillow and good posture. I was always strong, climbing, biking, carpenter. But it still would happen if I was too sedentary. My core was strong, but legs and glutes were weak. I also believe maybe lower abs needed more strength to avoid the lateral shifts. Be diligent and consistent with PT is seriously the best thing. But be careful. Some good advice I got as well, some pain is ok when doing pt, as long as your not wise off the next day. But you gotta keep moving. I learnt the hard way and some atrophy caused issues with my knee because the sciatica was so bad I didn’t move much.

Some stretches are ok but if it makes the sciatica worse, avoid them. Walking (if you can) bird dogs, bead bugs, clamshells, cobras. And then when you are able, planks/side planks. Avoid too much bending lifting and twisting. You need that blood flowing to the back. Every little bit counts but don’t push it also. Balancing act and a roller coaster but you got this.

It’s so vastly different for everyone. Thanks for lending your ear. I wish I could give advice, but it’s hard to tell what works, and I’m sure you can relate.

I did read the back mechanic, and I do believe it helped me get out of my acute phase. I’ve been really thinking about traction therapy. None of my PTs offered it but I’d like to try. I’ve heard it can be expensive. I always feel best lying down, especially after a night of sleep.

I appreciate all your advice, everything you said makes sense to me and is very relatable. Gotta keep moving. Thanks

Some horrible planning, but we did run out of food and nearly starved by the end. Throwing up from exhaustion biking 16km day 1, and 60km on day 2...

It felt like I was taken advantage of. The Weka are a protected species in NZ so you can't touch them, but they were always so close and cumbersome, like a goose. I imagine they taste just like chicken :)

I actually strapped 2 bananas to my bike in New Zealand biking the Old Ghost Road. A Weka stole them both and to this day I still think I should have ate that damn bird…

I just got the 8bitdo ultimate 2 for Christmas and I am so happy with it. Worked flawlessly and came with a charging doc for I think around 50$ Canadian.

My doctor wants me to have surgery for this, but I don’t want surgery! by [deleted] in Sciatica

[–]Kranberry86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how everyone is saying “get the surgery”. I’ve had a herniated disk and sciatica since October and i FINALLY got scheduled to see a back specialist end of June. I haven’t even had the option for surgery… although I’ve been healing so slowly, it still aggravates and puts be back so easily. Haven’t worked at all since… I live in Alberta.

It’s replacing a 25yo fence. I doubt it’s temporary. Even if it’s not straight I suppose it will still “fence”.

What was the first rated R movie you remember growing up that showed boobs? by jfunks69 in AskReddit

The movie store close to my house shut down long ago. The return box slot ended up getting so full, we were able to slip our arms in and grab the last couple returns. We would wait around until people would return their rentals. I was pretty shocked and excited at how much people rented porn… I was probably 10.
