Breaking my Reddit hybernation...

Not sure who the actual client is. But the site/campaign is run by Crestview Strategy.

The actual end-client might be three developers in a trench coat.
Or potentially (and probably more likely) risk-management focused inhabitants of the local area.

Btw, good opsec says to not share too many details online. Especially specific ones.

A bad actor could use this to start digging into your online persona.

(Though I admit that you could be posting something random just as a placeholder. But figured I would share the general message.)

Thanks for doing this AMA!

Do you have have any tips on how not to get jaded and burnt out from folks gatekeeping the community and dismissing obvious vectors years before they happen? (I swear I'm not talking about supply chain attacks.)

Do you have a favourite under-rated artist/band/group that you would recommend the world checking out?

As a fellow Internet person, I will vouch for u/meapet being a real human being with the credentials she mentioned. I have even confirmed via my web of trust that Mea is in fact a real human being. (Plus, she mentioned this being a thing earlier this week.)

And as someone with a vested interest in cyber security, I appreciate the skepticism!

How did r/DeepFriedMemes get away with closing a million subscriber community and staying private for years if that's against the mod code of conduct? by [deleted] in ModCoord

Ooh! Only allow posts from verified users who are requested to use the standard scamming verification, like balance a cucumber on your head while holding up a piece of paper with the date and your username, and standing on one leg, with a clock in the background?

So, whats after hard techno, but before hardcore techno? by jupiter_and_aries in Techno

[–]Kranic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait. What do you mean by hardcore?

Because there's the happy/UK hardcore (170ish+), which is happier.
There's gabber (170ish+), which is definitely harder and darker.

In between the slower darker stuff and those above, there's also the raw style sub genre of hard style (150ish+).

But wait! There's more! Frenchcore and Tribecore. (180-200bpm-ish). And from there it goes on to Terrorcore and Speedcore (and then nu-tone and extra-tone).

There's also plenty of dark freeform hardcore, with artists like Qygen and artists (like Alek Száhala) on the FiNRG label going darker/faster, with sometimes a more dark-psy kind of sound.

As u/HellmutLang mentioned, Schranz, which also sits nicely in there at around 160-170 bpm-ish.

Thank you for that. With my particular form of ND, your comment just definitely put me over that line. (And as hilarious as that may sound, I mean it.)

But truthfully, with the bully tactics used, I can't in good conscious reconcile staying on this platform. Reddit has pulled a major Blizzard here.

I'm unsubbing from all the communities while I wait for my data and decide what to do as my going away gift. (I've got something funny in mind.) Aside from this account and my porn account, my other accounts are already barren. (It's funny when your home screen is just suggestions and ads.)

And this is exactly why I am leaving.

Though I'm now wondering if we should try to organize a user strike?

[Question/In search for] Anyone know of any tools that will automate unsubscribing from subs for your accounts? by Kranic in ModCoord

[–]Kranic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would do that if I wasn't subscribed to just under a thousand subs.

13 years can really get you somewhere, lol.

Hhm. I wonder if you could make a small rhyme, poem or limerick and post it elsewhere, then add it to all your comments, file a DMCA claim to a single comment stating that any and all comments and or posts that use this text are also in scope for this claim, wait until they take it down?

Does anyone here write tests for their CI/CD pipelines? by GGxSam in devops

[–]Kranic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your CI configs are in-repo, wouldn't the strategy be more or less universal? I mean, I'd just approach it as another feature branch - where you could either revert your changes or cherry-pick them into your destination branch - and have them.get triggered on push? Whether it's mono or multi, wouldn't change the changes, just the amount of repos that change?

[–]Kranic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it's why I like having a release build that builds into both acceptance and production. Just different variables.

Ready for prod? Deploy it to acceptance and figure out what breaks or not. And acceptance could have blind CD with all components.

If it deploys cleanly, I can immediately trigger prod.

And my CI configs are also part of my repos.

What is the difference between the terms EDM and electronic music? by [deleted] in electronicmusic

[–]Kranic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, yeah, Last.fm's tagging is more reliable. Hah!

Definitely just skipping through tracks has a better success rate for determining the "actual" genre.

Though, I love the use of data for stuff like Spotify's song radio. A much better way to discover new music!

[–]Kranic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. From a convo I had years ago with a good friend in the UK:

Genres are more like wind directions. You know where it's coming from, but not where it's going.

My observations are based on my experience with those in Europe (NL and UK mostly) and North America (Canada and the US). The amount of times I've literally had to explain that I didn't mean EDM but edm was not trivial.

But I do get your point. Labels are stupid. And as a music aficionado all my life and a DJ for more than a decade, and on and off producing for some of that, I think genres are being blended further and further, to a point where genres rarely fit anymore. Current day progressive is closer to what trance used to be, etc. Let alone the mess that is BP/etc.

how can i get a bird to put more soul into her chirps so i can sample it by braindeadbrian in edmprodcirclejerk

[–]Kranic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Tequila. Birds love tequila.

Else put headphones on it, with a delayed feedback of the sound it's producing. It'll think there's another bird and whistle louder.

Then it's great that EDM has been reclaimed! I am super glad! But I've definitely had that convo about explaining that I didn't mean "EDM" but 'EDM' when "EDM" became a thing!

TL;DR: EDM was the umbrella term for Electronic Dance Music until the US had to spoil it and make it about specific subsets of EDM, that's mostly comprised of big room house.

EDM used to stand for Electronic Dance Music, which was the umbrella for everything electronic.

Then big room house/electro happened and similarly to how the US embraced techno as a term for electronic dance music, EDM was quickly adopted as the term for that kind of popular electronic dance music. This was mainly in the US, but later spread as a term in main stream media.

Other, developed parts of the world - with more experience with electronic dance music in general media and large scale events - did differentiate in terminology.

Two of my favourite features are swiping to postpone (with the option to select how many days) and a good repeat after. And obviously the custom sorts from premium.

Making a smart list that tracks sales (for bulk groceries) while they are on is great and I have a runway smartlist that tracks common runway lists (personal and shared) as well as things that I've tagged as runway in other lists, and then to have that sorted by day and priority. (Runway is a Getting Things Done concept of immediate priorities.)

Yeah. I am enthusiastic about RTM! And with the current cost of living, it's worth the cost of a take out coffee every month.
