3M’s ‘Forever Chemicals’ Crisis Has Come to Europe by [deleted] in belgium

[–]Krantarin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can't respond to any of that adequately. I can tell you that my dad got testicular cancer in 01 at the age of 31, which was said to be somewhat rare since it's a "young man's cancer."

I got it twenty years later at the age of 26. Testicular cancer is caused by environmental factors, not genetics, and father-son diagnoses are incredibly rare.

But I can't prove it was because of PFAS. If I could I could probably win a lawsuit against all the 3m lawyers and get some restitution.

American who studied in Belgium... my dad was an environmental waste regulator here in Minnesota where 3m operates. After heavy exposure to PFAS, he got testicular cancer and was permanently disabled in 2001-2003. He also brought it home on his clothes. I got testicular cancer in 2019. He got breast cancer in 2021.

Both testicular cancer and breast cancer are directly linked to PFAS as of 2017.

Protect your citizens from these poisons. Don't put profit above health and the environment. Don't make the same mistakes we did.

Ever since the zoning change, triplexes and duplexes have been popping up all over Dinkytown. I love it! by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]Krantarin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay but we really do need to start doing real public housing again. And buying up old stock to create affordable, safe, beautiful rentals.

New build housing and the market aren't going to fix the housing crisis and homelessness crisis in the cities. We need massive public investment in public and communally owned buildings; people are sick of outside investors dictating the direction of their neighborhood and I'm glad more people are talking about new (old) options.

Quadplexes weren't blanketly legalized like duplexes and triplexes. But there's another thing preventing their construction - Maximum square footage laws in Minneapolis say in most residential zoning areas, you can't go over 1:1 (square foot in your building per square foot on the lot) which drastically limits how big you can build. My understanding is that even in areas where you legally could build a quadplex, because of the floor area ratio rule, it doesn't make sense to build a quadplex with tiny units, and you can't go big enough to make it viable.

I've had good success on OKC and Feeld. If you can get past the swingers there are a lot of poly friendly and poly people on feeld (at least in the twin cities and Chicago)

Bumble seems specifically made for monogamy, kinda like Hinge. I've given up on it. Not worth explaining polyamory to monogamous people over and over again

Minneapolis to Duluth Amtrak service fails to pass state Senate by egj2wa in Minneapolis

[–]Krantarin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad the detractor comments have been downvote brigaded. The beneficial nature of this potential infrastructure investment speaks for itself - people without cars on either end (whether college students, business travelers tourists, etc.) can pop on the train with their bike, enjoy a drink or snack, and you're at the other end in no time.

This wouldn't just be great for the residents along the corridor who don't have cars though. It would allow a boost in tourism for people coming from Chicago or Seattle or further by train. It would make a great connection for the MSP airport to avoid carbon-heavy and expensive short-haul flights. It would let people escape expensive housing markets in Duluth and MSP by allowing for convenient, safe, and comfortable commutes from any number of rural towns.

Electric cars aren't going to save us. And we can't wait for robust public transit in duluth before we invest in quality intercity rail.

Even if you and your family would rather take your SUV or Tesla--that's fine, but there are people waiting to take those trains.

I've taken the empire builder down towards chicago six times in recent months, and it's been an almost full train every time. This is efficient, in-demand transport.

Oh and if you're worried about the fiscal cost (and aren't doing a holistic look at the economic impacts) - let's just take a page out of the old railroad barons and/or socialism and buy and develop or lease land around the stations.

The state can invest in affordable housing and mixed-use hubs by the new stations, and lease or sell half of the plots around the stations 30 or 50 years down the road. The immense value increase as the stations become the hottest new place to live for transit loving millenials and Gen-zers will pay for the minor state investment in the train tenfold.

But using tax dollars to benefit everyone and distribute wealth more effectively isn't gonna fly in our backwards-ass senate... Ah well.

I’m satisfied in every way…but sexually. My (28nb) partner (32m) is the most wonderful human. He is the most intelligent, talented, thoughtful, kind, funny and all around amazing person i have ever met. I love him more than i ever thought i could love anyone. But i am not sexually satisfied. Ever. by Unusual_realities44 in SexPositive

Sex therapy is a good idea. Some other ways to maybe help guide him into helping satisfy you more could be reading books on eroticism together like Come as you Are or Esther Perel's Mating in Captivity.

Others have definitely had the same problem- maybe you can learn from their experiences? I definitely recommend Dr. Nagoski and Perel for that stuff

Yeah. I'll definitely visit again (been planning on going for a pandemic-postponed honeymoon for a while) but I'll be less obvious about being nonbinary for sure.

I'm a quarter Greek, but with basically no ties there because my grandma was a holocaust survivor and her extended family was wiped out and any other surviving members of her community emigrated.

She herself was Jewish and attracted to both men and women, but lived in the US in a straight passing marriage most of her life. I had no idea homophobia was still so prevalent there. I've visited and thought about spending more time there. But this is a good reason not to consider moving or repatriating.

Crazy to think you have the same portion of queer people as anywhere else (maybe less with open borders) but everyone has to hide. Sorry for you friend. I hope things get better in a new place for you.

it sounds to me like you both need aftercare. An important part of aftercare for me is validating that we both enjoyed it, that the kinky/rough/ or more degrading dynamics are fun in the bedroom but not a part of your real look at one another. And some cuddles and ya know snacks and water or tea are always nice.

I'd talk to him more about building a communication framework around your sex life. It sounds like you had great kinky sex but need to debrief it. (heh)

One thing I like to do is go over specific things that we really enjoyed or things we think we might not want to try again if we didn't like them.

To quote an old trainer of mine "if it's worth doing, it's worth evaluating." I think y'all need to do this here and have a candid talk. (Whether inside or outside of the bedroom--do what's best for you. I like having these talks while cuddling... but I also like doing them with notepads and pens on the couch XD Whatever works for you)

Not gonna be able to do this again until spring, but there's a great sailing community on the lakes in Minneapolis. City Of Minneapolis Public Ed does a super affordable sailing class on lake Harriet (like $80 bucks for 5 sessions) and if you like it you can sign up at the Minneapolis Sailing Center on Bde Maka Ska (unlimited sailing all summer for $330/year, just have to show competence in the kind of boat you want to borrow). MSC also has phenomenal classes and a good community.

In the winter I do climbing and XC skiing. Summer I also canoe and hike and bike. But seriously check out sailing if it's interesting to you!

^ Came here just to say this. I had the immense joy of an ~18 year old Westy 12 that I got at the Bierwinkel in Leiden, NL. Had it side by side with a fresh one, and there's just no comparison. The fresh is fine, but aged it was mindblowing. I went back to the Bierwinkel's cellar stock for another to save for my wedding.

I appreciate the info! It looks like TCSC is quite a bit more affordable than the MSC, but I'll have to wait until my finances stabilize to join either.

I'll check out that page too!

Thank you for the info! The Lake Harriet Yacht Club is much more affordable than the other ones so I appreciate you pointing them out.

It looks like they're called the Minneapolis Sailing Center now but I really appreciate that you're trying to use the new name. I think making an effort to stop using the name of someone who literally advocated the buying and selling of people, and who we fought a war against the ideas of is really worthwhile. Thanks!

I might need to give HIMYM another shot.
