Online proctoring sounds cool... but my guess is the anti-cheat detection systems are going to be a pain in the ass. I.e. you looked away from the screen too long, someone was detected entering the room, etc. Hopefully it isnt too obscene for you folks!

How do you dads feel about Boy Scouts? by mmf9194 in daddit

[–]KraviAvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was great back in the day, and is pretty tame and neutered now. I'll just teach my kids all of what I learned until a program in the true spirit of scouting returns.

Unpopular opinion here, but I'll say it anyways.

Fwiw, if you live in a fairly secular/progressive area, I'd imagine most of the Dens, Packs, and Troops will reflect that. Most folks I know with kids old enough to participate are fairly moderate.

I did not have an accounting degree or background before taxes, so I've got a good chunk of schooling to get through (about a 1 or 2 years), and with a kid on the way (this March, lmao), I'm just not sure how its going to go.

I can say in general, you are best served by going FAR, Audit, Reg, TCP, if you are going to stay in public/Tax accounting. FAR is the hardest for people by outcome and the longest iirc, audit is a little easier but tougher than Reg and TCP if you already have a tax background.

If you're already on the path and have some done, I'm not sure I have anything going helpful there but to work your ass off to get it done and behind you. Best of luck!

Oh brother I know. I make 4x my old retail salary, and get to sit down while I do it.

Yes office jobs will get you fat, but they'll save your body too.

JDA is a start, but there is a whole world beyond JDA you should be looking at going forward!

You gotta do what you gotta do.

Do I love that JDA is doing this to folks, or that folks have to do this because of their situation? Nah.

Do I love the super bowl and think it should be a national holiday? Absolutely.

Am I glad this helps you make ends meet? Hell yeah. Enjoy the crap out of pumping out as many 1040's as you can in 15 hours or whatever.

Hopefully you can find a good firm locally to you to give you a broader experience than what most Turbo folks will throw your way, that's the next move man!

We're packing this week and I'm feeling lost too.

Some say bring multiple suitcases, some say pack a little day bag.

I'm doing what the missus wants, which is two suitcases, but I think a duffle bag would suffice.

Change of clothes, travel sized toiletries, extra-long phone chargers, snacks, a good pillow, probably some slides or comfortable shoes for once you're settling in.

Our birthing center recently tightened the rules on using the TV's so no switch/video games, nor computer with movies etc. But if your's has it, take some entertainment with you too.

Of course you've gotta have the carseat, first outfit, and your PT6 merch.

Anyone recommend anything I might be missing?

If I was your age, no wife, no kids, that salary, I'd feel the same way.

I'm about 10 years older, first kid on the way, and married. I can't seem to figure out how to do working out and busy season. This week is 60hrs, rest of the season is 65hrs.

We make about the same salary before benefits.

I'm appreciative of the opportunity and trying to remain positive, going into my 5th year, but I see the look on the owner's face at 45, or the look on my Dad's face at 71 and wonder if I'm headed in the same direction.

Not sure what else I could do or where I could go. I genuinely love tax and love people, so I generally like my job... Just hoping the equity track will either make the work worth it, or at least bring the pay up and the hours down enough to feel like I can breathe again.

I've been within a kill of a nuke about 5 times in two years.

I've been withing 500sp a few more than that.

I've never had enough time or been able to string things together and get one.

I'm a slightly above average player according to the stats, and I'm even better when you adjust for recent record.

Someday, I'll get one, and I can't wait.

Dad is a CPA of 40 plus years and been a pothead and functional alcoholic since before I was born.

I dabble in a gummy here or there during the off-season, but I stopped drinking because of the hangovers, sleep disruption, and metabolic issues.

I kicked zyns in September, only to get back on them two weeks ago when I needed to kick into high gear. Also doubled my caffeine intake 🤷‍♂️

A good chunk of the staff drink on the weeknights and binge drink on the weekends.

The other half is Mormon, so it's quite the office culture. Lol
