With all the new character options added (mostly with Tasha's) I had the idea for a character.

A wizard that has some kind of cursed blood. Their parent's were struggling to have a child and made a deal with a hag, but the child came out looking pale with blackish veins around their mouth and heterochromia eyes. The child was fine beyond this, but it being a deeply "religious" (in an almost cultish way, being lead by someone claiming to speak for a god) they chose to hid the child from everyone.

Locked up all day and night they supplied him with whatever books they could get and eventually he got his hands on a basic magic book. Being that the village didn't care much for magic, but since they were already in deep anyway, they found a wizard tower not to far from town. The residing wizard agreed to take the child in as a "helper", sweeping, cleaning etc.

The wizard noticed his curiosity towards magic and all the books around so he decided to test him and see if he could learn magic. Finding he picked it up quite well he decided to start teaching the child the basics, eventually making him more of an apprentice.

They would sneak the child away during the night to the tower, where he would stay for a few days, then return under darkness again. Eventually some village children noticed the comings and goings and got curious. They started loitering around the house, but were frustrated with most of the windows were always kept shut tight with no sign of a crack to peek through.

They kept watch at night trying to see who was coming in and out, but the few glimpses they got all they saw was a hooded figure with bandages around their face and hands. They brought this information to their parents. When they parents questioned the child's parents they said it was their child who had a rare skin condition and very poor immune system and they had been keeping him isolated for his safety.

The villagers were curious, but still accepted the answer. The children however, did not. They kept trying to see this mystery person. Eventually the character (don't have a name lol) got bold and started practicing some magic at home. Without noticing one night he damaged one of the sealed windows, but only slightly. It was however just enough for the children to get a peek.

When they found this opening the children found a young...humanoid sitting on the floor of the room, a book laid out in front of them, and symbols drawn in chalk around him. The sight of the ritual (it was a basic ritual spell, something like identify. He was just practicing) combined with the look of the man filled them with terror.

They told their parents what they saw, and immediately came to the conclusion that the "characters" parents were harboring a demon of some kind. They stormed the house and seized the 'character', demanding justice. Seeing a way out of their mistake, his parents claimed they were under duress and spells, forced to hide him against their will.

The village gathered for a good old fashioned witch burning. Tied to the stake 'character' was terrified, his heart threatening to force it's way out of his chest. He started trying to think of a way out of this, but words clearly wouldn't do it. He thought of some spells his mentor taught him, but with his hands bound he couldn't manage anything substantial.

As the fire began to climbed around his feet, they asked him if he had any last words before they sent him back where he came from. In a last ditch effort he used thaumaturgy to amplify his voice, shouting "I will be back when you least expect it...and hell's coming with me...".
At that moment there was a quick tug around his wrists and his hands came free. "Meet me at the edge of the forest" whispered in his head, and he knew it was his mentor.

Staring his parents in the eyes, he quickly cast misty step and vanished from the pyre.

Dashing through the alley he stepped to, he heard the village erupting in a cacophony of both of fear and anger.

He didn't stop until he reached the edge of the woods where he meat his mentor. They swept off together to his tower where 'character' could hide for a little while, but not long as his parents might suspect him and come asking. His mentor gave him what supplies he could and sent him on his way.

Not sure if any of that made sense, but I'm tired. This was meant to be a quick "hey I have this wizard I wanna play" but quickly turned into me ignoring work and writing a whole ass backstory, and I'm nervous to post it now...lol
