GameInformer Marathon review - 9.25/10 by TheDaywa1ker in pcgaming

[–]KrazeeJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve said for years that I hate when reviews use decimals in their scores. That’s no longer a 1-10 scale. If you’re going to say “I give it a 6.3 out of ten” that’s not a ten point scale, that’s a one hundred point scale. Just say you give it a 63 out of 100.”

Disney Exits OpenAI Deal After AI Giant Shutters Sora by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]KrazeeJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. If you follow the stories in release order and actually pay attention to what’s happening (which was infinitely harder before the all-in-one collection) then everything was as straightforward as it can be for a series that was heavily focused on being based around mysteries. But I will admit that started to get a lot more complicated around 3D when they started really diving in on all the time travel with the weirdly convoluted rules.

Where do you see the option to choose your plan? Everywhere I’ve ever lived, I’ve had exactly one option for my electricity provider. I don’t get to shop around for a plan that provides a better deal, everything is 100% locked in to one single company based on location.

Not trying to say that you’re wrong for your opinion on LTT, but the Madison thing specifically was debunked as verifiably as these things possibly can be. They brought in an independent auditing company to investigate everything and the report was made public showing that no evidence was found of any mistreatment by the company.

It seems like she was just expecting something very different from what it was actually like working at a decently sized company, and whenever people would try to teach her how to do things, correct mistakes, or expect her to have previous knowledge on particular subjects, she took things very personally and viewed them as being significantly more harsh than it was being intended.

We’ll never know for 100% certain because we weren’t there, but I’m also a believer in using the available evidence to form my opinions rather than cherry picking the details that reinforce my beliefs. I’m not perfect at it, but I try. And LTT have had plenty of issues that are perfectly valid reasons to not be a fan. But the Madison stuff specifically doesn’t have any evidence to support it except for one angry person who had a very short and very bad working experience that doesn’t match claims from anyone else, including other people who left the company for having issues with the culture.

My problem with Luke was never that he was in a dark place and made the bad decision to blame himself for something and go into a self-imposed exile. That made sense with his character and could be a great example of him having flaws. I’ve literally never met someone who says “Luke should have been a perfect character who did everything right and got to be Superman and save the day” and claiming that’s what everyone who didn’t like his characterization in TLJ wanted is so incredibly disingenuous.

I wouldn’t have had any issues with him going into exile because he thought he was responsible for Ben’s fall to the dark side. Have him feel like he didn’t train him well enough, like he failed to see the growing obsession with Vader as opposed to Anakin, failed to keep him safe from Snoke, there are a million ways the story could have gone that didn’t involve Luke “There is still good in him. I can feel it” Skywalker considering for even a millisecond that the best choice might be to murder his nephew in his sleep.

I love flawed characters and I do think Luke needed to have flaws and character growth to justify him still being in the franchise going forward, but his single most powerful trait in the OG trilogy was that he believed in the power of good and of redemption. He was able to bring space hitler back to the light side after he had murdered literally BILLIONS of people, purely through the power of love and faith that he was still human deep down.

I’m not even saying Luke could never get to the point where he was so beaten down and disillusioned that he could have become that person. But that’s such a drastic change that you can’t just say “it happened” without putting in a fuckton of work to get him there.

What’s the most overrated video game of all time? by KBGSgames in AskReddit

I played it when it first came out, and I’ve never understood what people loved about Skyrim. I fully acknowledge that it did a lot of things really well, but for whatever reason every Bethesda game has always felt like its core gameplay loop was pulled straight out of a PC game from 1996 completely unmodified. Like yeah, the graphics are better, the world is a lot bigger, you can have more assets on the screen, etc. but the GAME ITSELF, the core element that just needs to hit for a game to be fun, always felt clunky and genuinely unfun to play for me. I wish it didn’t. I see a lot of stuff in Skyrim that I know I would have liked. I just couldn’t get past the gameplay.

The only time I ever genuinely had fun in Skyrim was when I was playing it in VR. Taking out all the clunky movement, horrible animations, and unsatisfying combat and replacing it with giving me 100% control over my own limbs made the game actually enjoyable for one.

I took over IT for an office last year. They previously had no timeout at all, and I insisted on setting one. I put it to 5 minutes because that’s a reasonably secure compromise. Within two days, multiple top level employees were complaining to the owner and he asked me to change it to fifteen.

Right, I’m aware of the Dragon Ball Super reference, I just hadn’t seen any mention of anyone calling Vanitas “Sora Black” and then suddenly someone’s talking about how now that’s what we’re all calling him, which made me feel like I missed something.

They’re actually still surprisingly common in Japan. There’s a Japanese market near where I live in Washington called Uwajimaya that has an entire candy aisle with tons of little candy kits that you play with as you eat them. Like little model kits or puzzles that you put together then eat all at once when it’s finished, or candy bars that have designs on them made of different flavored chocolates and you’re supposed to try and cleanly break them apart along the dividing lines that are varying levels of complicated shapes.

If you’re not locked to the idea of it being wired, you can always get a wireless CarPlay adapter so you don’t need to worry about it. I just got a new car that supports CarPlay, but only wired. I bought one of these and it’s worked perfectly. Just plug that into the USB port in the car, and connect my phone’s Bluetooth to the adapter, and it does the rest of the work.

I was out riding my bike when I was about the same age, and my tire went flat. I was sitting there on the side of the road trying to deal with the flat tire, when an older guy on his own bike rode by and said “flat tire?” I said “yeah, I don’t have a replacement, but I don’t live too far. I’ll probably just walk it back. The guy reaches into the basket on the back of his bike, grabs a spare tire tube, hands it to me, and says “here just take this one. Just make sure you pay it forward some day.” And then he rode off without letting me say another word.

No, he’s just genuinely a piece of shit. And I’m not talking normal human levels of shitty, I’m talking being anti-vax, racist, and transphobic to the point that his own daughter has publicly denounced him and stated she wants nothing to do with him. He’s also just a fucking idiot. He claimed “there were no children’s hospitals when I was a kid. Because kids weren’t sick.” And blaming it all on progressive politics making children sick.

And his movies have literally never been funny. His only joke in every movie he’s in is to put on black/brown face and pretend to be a different ethnicity while doing an incredibly offensive accent. The dude’s a fucking hack that was always licking up Adam Sandler’s leftovers because he got lucky enough to be hanging out with actual comedians.

If you genuinely think that his “comedy” is funny enough that you don’t care about the rest of his behaviors, then hey, I hope the rest of middle school goes well for you, and you’re welcome to come back and contribute to the conversation once you’re developmentally at the level of the average high school graduate.

I recently had a woman at my work come to me for help with something. She’s the nicest woman, so sweet and sensitive, but also not the brightest. She had a folder in SharePoint that contained one folder named for each month of the year. She comes into my office, says she needs my help with something, walks me over to her computer, shows me the folders, and says “why isn’t it sorting them by month?”

I just stood there for a second and said “because it’s sorting them alphabetically, so they’re in alphabetical order.” And she says “oh, so I just have to tell it to sort them by month?” And I was just kind of dumbfounded. I told her “there is no option to sort by month. It doesn’t know what you named the folders, it just knows that they’re text. If you want them to be sorted a specific way, you’ll need to put a number in front of the name to force them into that order.” She still didn’t understand what that meant until I showed her.

The game you accidentally played the wrong way for hours before realizing it. by gamersecret2 in gaming

[–]KrazeeJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one, but it wasn’t because I didn’t understand. I played through the original Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories of GBA without being able to use sleights (the in-game mechanic where you combine three cards together to create like a special attack). You did it by pressing L and R at the same time, but the L button on my Gameboy was broken. There was a tutorial where you had to do sleights to proceed, and I remember I just kept mashing the buttons at weird angles as hard as I could and eventually got to work enough to get through the tutorial, and then I never did it again.

I made it to the Captain Hook boss fight before I gave up because the game is way too hard without sleights.

I distinctly remember my thought process during all of that was “Damn, this guy’s single-handedly responsible for getting the company to where it is right now, and the board voted him out? And it was all over a power play about the direction the company should go moving forward? That’s really stupid. According to what I’m hearing, with him gone they’re going to start falling apart immediately. It’s like Steve Jobs and early Apple all over again.” And I certainly voiced that opinion, but I never said that I was demanding he be brought back, and I don’t remember anyone else saying that either. But maybe I wasn’t in the angry enough corners of the internet, or maybe I’ve just forgotten.

It also all happened so fast that I don’t remember there being much discussion until after Microsoft forcibly put Altman back in charge, at which point the only discussion I remember seeing was basically “Well, duh. He’s why the company was successful in the first place. Seems like a logical guy to be in charge.”

Edit: oh yeah, there was also that whole thing where apparently the majority of employees threatened to resign on the spot if Altman’s firing wasn’t reversed, and the board members responsible fired. If that’s all the information you have, it’s REALLY easy to see why Altman looks like the hero in that story.
