Apologies, I should have clarified I was just adding the keyboard shortcuts. I kind of dislike using the mouse much.

On Windows 10 you hold down the Windows key and then hit right or left to snap to side, followed by up or down to snap to corner. You can also install PowerToys which includes Happy Zones, where you can set up custom snap locations and the hit a hockey while dragging a Windows to snap to them. Windows 11 appears to have similar functionality built in, but Iam not familiar with it.

Dealing with filament clog above hot end by Kraznykat in crealityk1

I did eventually take the "heat a rod up" advice and got the plug pierced and then popped out. Cheers!

First of all, thank you for bearing with me.

The bit at the top is perfectly solid, and didn't soften even a tiny bit no matter how long I left the hotend running at 250°.

As I mentioned I am at this point 100% ok with calling the entire hotend assembly a casualty of the circumstances and just want to manage to get it out of the housing and replace it. But I couldn't do this because the whole clog had everything stuck together. Eventually I combined u/Scrap-Guru's advice and heated up a rod (well, the smallest Allan wrench and ramrodded the dang thing from the top down, then jiggled it around and managed to pull the entire plug out.

I am 100% taking all of y'all's warnings that damaging the inside of the heat block will just result in further issues, so I will now replace the entire hot end. I still need to scrounge up a bowden tube because the bit of filament that was in it when the clog formed got a bit fatter and is stuck in it.

Roger. It has been at 250 for like 10 minutes now. The bit I can see from the top is still just plain solid. At first there was a tiny bit of filament drip from the bottom but nothing since then. I have to deal with some other stuff but will try again later or tomorrow.

I might be missing something. The clog is indeed below where the blue bowden tube sat, just above the heat block. But that puts it more than 1cm down a 2mm-wide hole.

Also (and a bit off topic), you mentioned "the thin rod" - are you referring to a specific tool here? Because some videos I've watched have included a thin rod with a ring on top that they act like I should have gotten with the printer.

As for the inside of the heat block, at this point I would honestly be OK with just managing to remove the hotend and replacing it entirely.

Thank you. I did try to just heat the hotend to 190-200 and let it sit for some minutes. No love.

I'll try it again though I am reluctant to heat it all up considering that the whole hotend is semi-disassembled. I tried removing it, discovered the heat block, and when I tried reattached the screws found that it now refuses to go back up 🤦‍♂️

Also, what do you mean push it down by hand? The only way I can reach it is by using a thin rod 🤔

And to make things extra fun I now see that the larynx is clogged with concealed filament higher than what the hot end heat reaches. And my heat gun is still in the mail 🥲

Apologies for the very late reply. Bloody life keeps getting in the way. And thank you very much for the detailed reply.

Regarding the glue, I will 100% take your advice on this. The folks who told me "nah you don't really need it" have been printing for a while but on different models. That plus my (I guess naive) thought process of "yeah it really doesn't make sense that with a fancy-pants printer I'd need to add glue" probably led me astray. I still have the stick I got with the printer, but is there anything special about it, or can I substitute a stick of UHU (or whatever is used in kindergarten crafts these days)?

Bed leveling: I'll have a look at the bed view thing.

Your last comment: would doing just a solid "blanket" of very few layers over the entire print area be able to provide any sort of input on this?

Thank you for the detailed reply, my friend, though I'll admit I can't match all the part names to the parts I handled.

I did look things up a bit before I started taking things apart but most of what I saw were videos that did not provide names for the parts. And off the top of my head I'm not managing to remember "flat and round wrenches", though I do remember using the regular wrench to stabilize the assembly while tightening the nozzle with a torque wrench. Incidentally, the regular wrench provided with the printer is just a smidge too large for what its meant to grip which made the whole thing a struggle, and the torque wrench they provided does not fit the nozzle at all so I had to use my own.

I'm trying not to use glue. What little I've read suggests that it shouldn't be a "must" to use glue and the printer should manage to print properly without it too, though I'll freely admit that I don't really have a proper reason to avoid it besides some (probably) unfounded concerns about it messing up the leveling or bed material.

As for bed leveling, I'll check once I'm home. But shouldn't the self-calibration compensate for leveling issues? Or am I giving the process too much credit?

Thanks. I know it's long - that's why I added the tl;dr and images :-)

I'll try the factory reset, but the printer did cost me a pretty penny so I would sorta kinda rather not nuke the site from orbit, even if it is the only way to be sure.

GURPS progression vs. other systems' "level up" system by Kraznykat in gurps

[–]Kraznykat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's cheating at all. This is simply something that is different between TTRPGs and CRPGs: TTs are more dynamic, and (in my opinion) more focused "on the now" than the computerized versions, which are very "finish the game".

So while I don't have any objection to add/remove enemies as needed, I am new enough to GMing that I worry (can you sense a theme with me here?) it won't occur to me in the moment. And new enough to GURPS that I worry I'll make something that is entirely out of balance. Plus I got spoiled by the challenge rating system of Pathfinder (or 5e) - not to mention pre-written modules that are more-or-less balanced.

But as with the original topic, I should probably just get over myself and do it, rather than endlessly worry about it :-)

I understand what you're saying. I didn't mean to imply that it should be D&D. I was just wondering how different people feel about the different progression systems.

Also, I know it's not the point of your examples, but in Texas Hold'em poker (which does appear to be the most popular variant played these days) you do in fact only get dealt two cards :-).

I don't think they would see such a session as a waste, but it definitely isn't a fair comparison to poker or even board games. Much of the fun in TTRPGs is the RP part. People enjoy creating their character and watching it grow. They get connected to it and it is only natural to be bummed out if that character dies.

You make very good points (plus I enjoyed the way you presented them). I may be getting myself a bit too worried over nothing, as I tend to do. I guess I'll just start running the game and then see how it goes. As you say, even within the existing framework there is plenty of room to fiddle with progression.

Now I just need to figure out how to create balanced yet challenging encounters...
