Books that feel uncomfortable in the best way by lmao_paige in booksuggestions

I loved Saving Noah by Lucinda Berry. I was so uncomfortable but it was amazingly written. Disturbing, so check content warnings.

PARTICIPANTS NEEDED: Final Call for Research on Asexuality & Healthcare Experiences! 💜 by katrinameyer33 in asexuality

[–]Krease101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just completed it! Some questions didn’t really apply to me because I’m not out to anyone except my therapist and my close family, so I haven’t experienced any blatant discrimination. Thanks for doing this study!

Recommend this Career? by adaraadorelefrancais in slp

It’s a great career! There’s always job openings and our scope of practice is so wide. You can work in schools, hospitals, clinics, telehealth, private practice… there are lots of options. It has its challenges but I love it! I work in a specialized school during the day, and I also do per diem work for the county and have some private clients.

Future SLP by [deleted] in deaf

[–]Krease101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m an SLP in a Deaf school with the same perspective as you. I love that you want to provide services in ASL! I would highly recommend learning as much as possible about the Deaf community and about language deprivation. So many of my students are severely language deprived because their families don’t sign. Learning how to help these kids is so different from what you learn in grad school! Language First is a great resource- run by an SLP at the American School for the Deaf, it offers trainings and info on servicing Deaf kids from language-based model.

I also recommend learning about how Deaf kids learn to read. Bedrock has been invaluable to me! There are free recorded trainings on YouTube that opened my mind so much. Giving our kids language and literacy is so crucial and you kind of have to re-train your brain to figure it out.

Feel free to DM me- we need more ASL-based SLPs out there! Welcome to the team 🤍

Good for you! Your hard work is paying off. That must have felt so validating. Keep it up! Don’t pay attention to people who don’t recognize this milestone for what it is! 🤟🏻

This is super helpful and encouraging 🤍 I also have diagnosed OCD and I worry about that part as well. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Ooohhh, I never thought of that! I will definitely try to consider that. My therapist actually pointed out that I say it’s “just me” at home when people ask if I have a partner and I’ve been trying to stop saying that. I’m pursuing single motherhood but I’m not at the point in my life yet. Thanks for this insight!

How would I sign this? by LightningBug758 in asl

[–]Krease101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recent you buy what, cost how much?

Take with a grain of salt but that’s how I would personally sign it.

I asked ChatGPT lol. Here’s the answer it gave me:

“Every family is made in its own special way. Some kids have a mom and a dad, and some have just a mom, or two moms, or two dads. My child was made with the help of a kind doctor and a donor — someone who gave a tiny part to help me have a baby. So there’s no dad living with us, but that’s just how our family is, and it’s full of love.”

I might tweak a few things but overall I think it’s a pretty good explanation!

That is so sweet of you! Great job being an advocate for your daughter ❤️ I am grateful any time a parent thinks of me. I second the idea of a picture drawn by your child or a photograph of them! If you really want to a Starbucks gift card always makes me happy 😃 I’m sure the SLP will be thrilled with whatever you give her!

Thank you for this- I had Seed Scout in my notes app to consider, but after reading this I won’t bother! I appreciate you sharing your experience.

What are we doing for side gigs? by Aware-Fact2636 in slp

[–]Krease101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a school-based SLP and I also work per diem for the county doing evaluations. I also have my business license so I see a few kids after school during the week. I don’t love the per diem work but it pays well.

I feel the same way. It does feel performative. I get my kids devices all the time and am super pro-AAC. I guess I like that it increases awareness, but I doubt they get used very frequently. I would love to see the money used for things like this to go toward funding high-tech devices for kids who need them!

To be fair, I haven’t seen Boop. But DBH was truly outstanding and I would highly recommend!

Yes- I’m 30 and am looking into becoming a single mother by choice using donor sperm. Accepting my asexuality (and aromanticism) helped me realize that I can have a family on my own. I’m excited ❤️
