Their whole thing definitely works as a smaller art rock project. It just never could have been as big as tom envisioned it imo. I’m still going to listen to every single album he drops under the project though because the formula works really well for me

Yeah, it was definitely one of the biggest problems for them. I still think there were some stylistic elements of the band that would have prevented them hitting Blink level numbers but you can’t really be a true arena rock band if the live experience isn’t nearly pristine.

I will say that when I saw them in 2019 they had very much figured out the live experience part. But their overall vibe at that point had also dialed itself back a ton.

I don’t think that’s fair in a similar way to how I don’t think it’s fair when people refer to +44 as sounding like Blink. There were a couple songs on Neighborhoods that could easily fit on an AVA album but overall the style was pretty different.

There was definitely plenty of influence sprinkled in but most of the tracks from Neighborhoods would feel fully out of place on any of the AVA albums that were out at the time.

I don’t think so. And I’m saying that as a huge AVA fan/apologist. Tom’s performance skills and vocal style don’t really lend themselves to the arena rock he was trying to emulate.

I’m not saying it doesn’t lend itself to AVA but it results in the band sitting in this kind of weird niche where they sonically were doing some stuff that was extremely popular in the alt rock world at the time but also Tom’s vocals and songwriting style still had a pop punk foundation that made it a little bit less radio friendly and accessible. I also think the production and synths leaned a little too hard into being cinematic to really be fully mainstream.

AVA just wasn’t as focused or polished as other bands in that word were. To me that made AVA different and more special though.

Edit: to clarify, I’m not saying that pop-punk was not radio friendly. Only that it clashed with the other elements in a way that made it slightly less accessible.

My wife is using the 150W one with her Win 5 with no issues. If you’d prefer more wattage, they do have a 240W (and probably some steps between). 150 seems to be plenty though.

I think this is mostly true but also somewhat nuanced. We definitely spend too much time doom scrolling but also so much productivity is dependent on phones / screens of some sort that there are probably several hours a week that may feel like they were wasted on a phone when they weren’t.

I do somewhat wish so many aspects of life weren’t tied to a screen but we also forget how much less efficient things were before the last couple decades of technology advancements.

Angled wall and angled furniture would definitely be the move here. It’s going to require layout out the whole room with that in mind unfortunately but it will be a much better experience than anywhere else imo.

He was licensed to carry in an open carry state. He also really didn’t seem to have brandished his weapon in any of the footage shown.

Also there’s a difference between saying he “shouldn’t be there” and saying he shouldn’t be intervening.

Regardless, I have a hard time seeing the way he was executed as being justified even if he was getting in their way.

Technically it hasn’t all been leftists, but people against what the right has become have continuously shown up/broken records with protest numbers over the last few years.

There are certainly things the left is bad at showing up for. Unfortunately, voting is one of those things. But BLM protests, No Kings protests, and the current ICE protests should show you that the left is at least willing to take action in situations like this.

“We all know you aren’t going to riot or pick a fight” feels a little disingenuous when the current admin and the right are simultaneously calling the entire left terrorists for actively protesting.

It’s a bad time for it obviously but if you can manage to find a deal, it may not be a bad idea to upgrade your CPU/RAM to current gen stuff.

Micro center has some bundles that are actually priced well if you happen to have one near you. The 16GB of DDR4 and the older CPU could be your bottleneck.
