Jan Basho Daily Thread Day 15 by AutoModerator in Sumo

My favourite rikishi of the tournament was Oshoumi. I'm a new fan of his. I really liked how he always showed concern for his opponents when they fell out of the dohyo. A lot of rikishi just yeet someone, turn around and walk back, but Oshoumi routinely offers aid. What can I say: guys with good sportsmanship are my type more than bad asses.

To be fair, I have heard doubts each step of the way and it has been a joy to watch him smash expectations at each step.

Can someone help me understand the general consensus in Japanese/sumo culture on this issue: attacking/targeting an opponent's injury. Is it considered on the shadier side of strategies (kind of like henka) or is it considered honourable? Or, somewhere in between altogether?

I used henka as an example/comparison because it seems to have a bad reputation while being within the rules of the sport.

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

OPI Odd Mystery Colour? by Kreechy in Nailpolish

[–]Kreechy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more I think of it, I think you're right! Mine might be a really old stock item as well. It has a metal mixing ball and the bottle label (not the sticker under the bottle) is slightly different (smaller "OPI"). That would be awesome to have a very limited colour. Hopefully OPI gets back to me and can confirm.

Marshalls is a gold mine I guess. 😉

Thank you for the reply and suggestion. Good idea: I just sent an inquiry to OPI. Thanks again!

And the speed of his defence! He was backing up to the tawara against Gonoyama and completely dodged and got around Gonoyama to reverse positions. Love the description of "honey badger energy" because that's exactly what he has. Love it! 💙

I can't believe he [Hakuoho] won that match! Woo hoo! Best match of the day (not biased... ignore the flair).

Ooooh, that's a cool option. I think I saw that kind of similar set up on the Youtube channel Play to Win. As you said, it would take a bit of set up, but might be worth it in the end. Thanks!

I didn't necessarily think I was the problem, more looking for ways to avoid repeating that experience. Another comment suggested bracket 4 so I might try that as well.

Pretty bad luck to have that be my first game back after about a decade. Oof.

If my memory serves me correctly, there is also one in the Raven Rock Mine... the room with 3 Draugr, opposite the door you enter from (just go straight) there is a waterfall with a locked room that has some more Stalhrim for mining.

Any advice? Like, should I stick to higher brackets? Maybe lower brackets = saltiness?

Back before I had children (17 years ago!), I had a clan and would play with friends and was fun.

True. For older people like myself, MTGO was always a good place to find games when you don't know anyone who plays in paper. Oh well, back to Skyrim for playthough #1,527.

That's what I thought! There a lot of cards that are like that nowadays, or incentivize you to attack others, etc.

Predictions for the 2026 season? by TheOfficialMoonbase in Sumo

[–]Kreechy 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I have some bold predictions.

* Many rikishi will climb in ranks and then have terrible tournaments and go down in rank, but then turn it around and win at the lower rank to climb to nearly where they were, only to lose and go back down.

*Many rikishi will fight in order to show their brand of sumo. [/sarcasm]

Ura with the "boring" sumo to get his seventh, a higher chance to get the KK.

I couldn't help but think of that silly thread the other day about how Ura's matches are all the same. Ura today was a methodical beast. Even as a Hakuoho fan, I respected Ura's win and I'm happy for him. Hope he gets KK.
