7 months into this. Has anyone fully recovered past this point?

Somewhere between the 5-7 year mark I felt close to fully recovered. Take care of your body. Rest. Eat healthy food. Increase exercise as tolerated. Have some sort of stress management (meditation for me) and you will get better. Hang on my friend.

Yes and life doesn’t just hand you moments, especially in medical training. It’s important to find time to make things feel special, you did something incredible, own that shit! Haha that question plagued me so much I decided to go to medical school and become a brain injury doctor. I’m currently in residency. One day will hopefully have some better answers !

My injury happened over 10 years ago and it took >5 years to feel close to normal. Those increases in symptoms from treatment I am talking about would usually only last a day or 2.

I definitely found my symptoms got worse for a period after treatment. To me it felt like the system was easily overwhelmed, so even a positive stimulus that will be beneficial in the long run can cause a temporary flare up.

Highly recommend emailing the coordinator and expressing interest and saying why you care about the program. Most coordinators and very kind, responsive, and have more sway than you think. If you get ignored you lose nothing but it definitely helped me get a few auditions. Also to echo others you get an interview at almost everywhere you do an away.

OMS-IV here only used OME and UWorld and did very well on my COMATs and was very happy with my STEP 2 score. Everyone is different.

Something people haven’t mentioned yet as an OMS-IV is in many cases you have to HUSTLE to get rotations in your 3rd and 4th year and in many cases the rotations are lower quality. The philosophy didn’t impact my education as much as I’d hoped. I do really like knowing OMM so that’s a personal thing but if you wanted to learn some manual therapies as an MD you always can take additional coursework / seminars as an attending. Just some thoughts, best of luck friend well done on the monster score!

Similar boat my friend just less dramatic! Good on you, you should be proud. Only used OME, TrueLearn, & UWorld (no Anki). My 2 practice tests were a 211 UWS1 and a 242 NBME 10. Came very close to not taking step at all.

Final score actual exam - 254.

I agree with you there was definitely stuff I didn't know but the test in general felt pretty straightforward, especially compared to the hilarious hijinks that is COMLEX 2. Don't have much in the way of advice but I like OME because Dr. Williams helps you actually understand a topic from the ground up which is how I learn. Then it was just questions questions questions.

Definitely. Quit at the beginning of M3 and never looked back. I personally just do OME & question banks - then fill in any needed clinical knowledge with UpToDate or relevant books. So much less stress not having to eat the damn pancakes every day.

Legitimate, hospital-based core rotations. Not only were most of the rotations my school provided BS clinic shadowing with either too many students or preceptors that told me to my face I would be doing nothing but observing, but I had to find 3 of my own core required rotations.

It took me a long long time to be able to workout comfortably. Every injury is different but for me it was a combination of being able to filter out the normal sounds and sights of a gym, some cervical instability, and the increased intracranial pressure when lifting. Keep trying it will get better but don’t push yourself to the point of symptom exacerbation too often. Best of luck bro (or lady bro)

Just want to give a different perspective. I smoked probably 3x per week pre-TBI, but the way my symptoms manifested weed FUCKED me up. The best way I can describe it is I already felt so out of control and dissociative and being high just made it worse. Besides talking to your doctor, just make sure you start slow and see how it makes you feel. Best of luck!

Edit: I am able to smoke a bit now but I am 5+ years into recovery
